# Which location marketing platforms are most reliable for retail property managers who need to protect customer privacy?

Hoping to get a read from the property and centre-management folks who review these tools.

Which location marketing platforms are actually reliable for retail property managers who have to protect customer privacy, across tenants they don't control?

A property manager's privacy problem is different from a retailer's. The shopper never signed up with you. They signed up with a tenant, or with nobody, and you're measuring the concourse anyway. The tools people usually hear about here, Foursquare and Placer.ai, buy third-party movement data and sit in G2's location intelligence category. For the platforms in this category, the checks I'd want:

Consent visible to the shopper at the moment of capture, not buried in an app policy

Data retention you can set and shorten, with deletion on request

Vendor certifications you can name: SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR documentation

Tenant separation: a retailer sees its own data, not the centre's

Aggregated counts by default, with identified data only where the shopper opted in

Purple (4.2/5, 35+ reviews): Guest and multi-tenant Wi-Fi from one platform, with consent collected at a branded login where the shopper sees the trade. Trade-off: analytics only cover people who log in.

M360 (4.7/5, 20+ reviews): Built for shopping centres, with proximity SMS and email to shoppers who subscribed to the centre itself. Trade-off: no anonymous footfall layer.

Digging through the Location-Based Marketing category on G2, the property manager framing in the post is the detail worth sitting with, since the shopper never opted into a relationship with the property, only with a tenant or with nobody, which makes consent and tenant separation harder problems than a typical retailer's location marketing faces. Platforms built around visible, branded consent at the moment of capture solve a real piece of this, but they also only see the people who actually opt in, which means the anonymous footfall layer property managers often want has to come from somewhere else entirely.

Tenant separation is the check that's easy to overlook and hardest to verify from a G2 profile alone, since a retailer trusting that its data stays its own is a promise that lives in configuration and contract terms, not in a feature list. Given how thin and scattered the review evidence is across this category for the property-manager use case specifically, the finding that would actually change a shortlist is probably less about a feature gap and more about a vendor unable to clearly explain how tenant data gets walled off from the property's own view.
