# Which localization tool works best for professional translators and LSPs vs. in-house product teams managing their own app strings?

I'm trying to sort out which localization tools are actually built for professional translators and LSPs juggling multiple clients, versus which ones are built for an in-house product team managing their own strings. Those feel like two different jobs wearing the same category label on the software localization tools page.

memoQ is explicitly built for language service providers handling packages from multiple buyers in different formats, with reviewers who are translators themselves praising the translation memory and terminology tools that carry across projects.

Lokalise skews toward in-house product and engineering teams, with reviewers citing Figma and GitHub integrations and automatic key detection in app screenshots as the reason it fits directly into how a product team already ships.

Phrase sits in between, with a reviewer base that includes both agencies managing client content and product teams shipping localized software continuously through native repository integrations.

For anyone straddling both worlds, translation agency work and in-house product localization, did you end up needing two separate tools, or has one platform genuinely flexed to cover both?

The handoff model seems like the hardest part for a team straddling both worlds. LSP work needs clean separation between clients, linguists, terminology, billing, and deliverables, while product localization benefits from strings moving continuously between repositories and translators. I’d test whether one platform can keep those client boundaries intact while still supporting automated Git-based releases. If either side requires manual export/import, that is probably where the case for two tools starts.
