&lt;p&gt;Encryption, permissions, redaction. Every mature reader passes that checklist, so it rarely decides anything. The real risk is that the reader is an attack surface itself, a PDF parser sitting on every endpoint and opening untrusted files, so patch speed matters more than the feature list. The safest patch model, forced auto-update, is also the one most likely to change something under a user mid-task, which is why strongest security and least disruptive are partly pulling against each other here.&lt;/p&gt;
