# Which digital banking platforms support mobile-first account onboarding with multi-factor authentication?

I'm looking into which digital banking platforms support mobile-first account onboarding with multi-factor authentication, since a lot of institutions still route new account opening through a branch or a clunky desktop form that doesn't match how people actually want to sign up.

What actually matters here is probably: an application that can realistically be completed on a phone in a few minutes, identity verification thorough enough to catch fraud without adding friction for legitimate applicants, and a process that works the same whether the institution built it in-house or configured it out of the box.

Narmi: Online account opening dropped from around 45 minutes to about 3 for one credit union, with identity checks running SSN, date of birth, address, and other verification in the background so the applicant experience stays fast. One bank nearly doubled its online account openings within months of switching.

MeridianLink Consumer: A mobile-first application flow with smart forms and built-in e-signatures keeps borrowers moving instead of dropping off mid-application, with identity and credit verification running automatically as part of the decisioning process.

For anyone who has actually measured this, did the mobile-first flow reduce application abandonment in a way you could point to directly, or is that hard to isolate from other changes happening at the same time?

Your caution about isolating the effect is fair, and there's a cleaner way to look at it than total abandonment. Drop-off by step is much more attributable, since it shows whether people are leaving at identity verification, at funding, or at document signing, and those have different fixes. The timing figures described around Narmi are notable in that respect because a shorter overall application usually reflects fewer steps where someone can stall, not just faster ones.
