# What's the best freight management solution for companies with 51–200 employees focused on rate optimization?

Freightview: The NMFC lookup ensures the most accurate rates possible, the rate accuracy foundation that contract optimisation depends on.

GoComet: The competitive reverse auction model is specifically relevant for mid-market companies whose freight volume is large enough to run competitive procurement but whose team size makes manual carrier negotiation inefficient.

Descartes Aljex: For mid-market freight brokerages and 3PLs in the 51–200 employee range, Aljex's TMS provides the load management, carrier sourcing, and customer billing tools that mid-market freight operations need without enterprise-scale implementation complexity.

DAT iQ: For mid-market teams whose rate optimisation challenge is specifically benchmarking contracted rates against market rates, understanding whether the rates they negotiated last year are still competitive, DAT iQ's $1T+ transaction database provides the market intelligence layer that mid-market teams typically cannot access independently.

SONAR: For mid-market transportation managers whose rate optimisation strategy depends on understanding freight market cycles, when to lock in contracted rates versus when to use spot, SONAR's real-time freight demand, capacity, and rate trend data provides the market timing intelligence that mid-market procurement teams use to negotiate from a position of knowledge rather than intuition.

What percentage of shipments shifted from broker-arranged to carrier-direct after implementation — and was the rate saving on the direct-carrier shipments sufficient to justify the additional management overhead?

Rate optimization can mean two very different things here. Freightview helps answer “which of my existing rates is cheapest for this shipment?” while DAT iQ and SONAR help answer “are the rates I negotiated actually good?” For a 51–200 person company, I’d figure out which question is costing more money before choosing the tool.
