&lt;p&gt;The bigger compliance gap is usually what happens after the document is opened — downloads, local copies, sharing, and access revocation. The reader matters, but IT and legal will care more about whether those actions are controlled and auditable across the storage system.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The local-copy distinction seems like the key audit question. I’d take it one step further and test the full document lifecycle: open, annotate, save, share, and close. If the controlled viewer prevents download but an edited copy or temporary file escapes the governed repository later, the integration only solved the first part of the compliance problem.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

Did your audit finding trace to the connector, or to a local copy left behind after the file was closed?&lt;/p&gt;
