# What data privacy and consent considerations should a company think through when choosing a lead retrieval platform so it does not create compliance problems after the event?

Compliance risk in event lead capture mostly lives in how you use the tool, not which logo is on it. So what data privacy and consent considerations should a company think through when choosing a lead retrieval platform so it does not create compliance problems after the event? This one deserves a considerations-first answer rather than a straight product list. From reading recent reviews and vendor documentation across lead retrieval software, the questions that matter: who legally owns the attendee data you scan (usually the event organizer, governed by the event's terms), whether a scan constitutes consent to marketing follow-up in the attendee's jurisdiction or only consent to contact, where the captured data is stored and processed, how long the vendor retains it, and whether your follow-up automation respects opt-outs from day one. G2's own summary of buyer feedback in this category flags consent capture and controlled data flow into downstream systems as the things to look at closely. On the platform side, here's where the compliance evidence sits:

Blinq: States GDPR compliance and SOC 2 Type II certification, with SSO and team provisioning for enterprise control over who captures what. All vendor-stated, but they are the certifications an infosec review will ask about first.

Captello: The broadest stated compliance set in the pool: SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, and GDPR (vendor-stated), which tracks with an enterprise client list in regulated industries. Custom capture forms also let you build explicit consent checkboxes into the scan flow itself, which reviewers confirm are fully configurable.

Cvent Event Marketing & Management: The organizer-side angle: because it holds the registration database, consent collected at registration governs the data exhibitors retrieve, which cleans up the ownership question. The flip side is that your rights to that data are defined by the event's terms, not yours.

Popl: Its enrichment model deserves a specific look in privacy review: filling in contact details the person did not hand you is exactly the behavior that reads differently under GDPR than under US norms, so ask where enrichment data comes from and how it is lawfully processed.

The practical checklist that falls out: get the event's data terms in writing, put a consent statement in your capture form, confirm the vendor's data processing agreement and retention policy, and make sure enriched fields are flagged as enriched in your CRM so sales knows what the person actually shared. Has anyone had a post-event compliance issue actually surface, an attendee deletion request, an organizer data dispute, or a region where scanned leads could not be marketed to? What would you check earlier next time?

The point about flagging enriched fields in the CRM is one I don't see enough teams actually do. Sales following up on a detail the person never shared is an awkward call to explain.
