# Semrush vs SpyFu for paid search intelligence: which gives a performance marketer more to work with?

Hi G2 community, I'm putting together a roundup to settle a common head-to-head and want to address the question directly: Semrush vs SpyFu for paid search intelligence: which gives a performance marketer more to work with? It comes down to breadth across the whole marketing stack versus depth focused on competitor paid search. The three I'd put in front of a performance marketer are Semrush, Similarweb, and SpyFu, all from the Paid Search Intelligence category, with the last a broader-data alternative to the two named.

Semrush offers a broader platform, with reviewers valuing keyword research, competitor analysis, position tracking, and GA4 integration all in one place. The trade-off reviewers cite is confusing pricing tiers and a learning curve due to the feature count.

SpyFu offers deeper insights into competitors' paid search, with reviewers praising its ad-history timeline, paid keyword data, and value for reverse-engineering rivals' Google Ads. Reviewers note occasional missing data and fewer upfront metrics than the bigger suites.

Similarweb brings market-scale competitor traffic and paid channel data, which reviewers use to place a rival's search activity in the context of its whole acquisition mix. Reviewers note estimates and higher pricing.

For a performance marketer, is broad coverage worth more than a cheaper, sharper competitor-PPC lens? And do you already own a suite that overlaps one of these?

The "breadth vs. depth" framing holds up, but it's worth pointing out that the choice usually isn't either/or in practice. A lot of reviewers on both products describe using Semrush for the broader keyword and SEO work they already need to do, then reaching for SpyFu specifically when a competitor's paid strategy is the question, rather than trying to make one tool cover both jobs well. If budget only stretches to one platform, the deciding factor is really which job eats more of your week: ongoing keyword and content work, or competitor PPC teardown.
