# Is Shopify worth the monthly fee for a small ecommerce store?

Hi G2, Shopify being worth the monthly fee for a small ecommerce store depends on whether its integrated ecosystem saves enough time to offset the subscription and additional app costs. I’m researching where that calculation starts to make sense in practice.

What I’m hoping to understand:

Whether the platform reduces everyday store maintenance

When its app ecosystem becomes necessary

How quickly transaction fees and paid apps raise the total cost

Whether a cheaper alternative remains manageable as the store grows

It really depends on how much you value not thinking about it. Shopify charges you for convenience and for a lot of small stores that trade is worth it, especially if your time has any value. Where it gets annoying is when you realize you're paying for 3-4 apps on top of the base plan just to do fairly standard stuff. At that point you start doing the math.
