# Is a dedicated owned media platform worth it for a small business?

Hi G2 community. A fair question before committing budget: if you're a small business, does a dedicated owned media platform beat just posting on social and sending the odd email? I've been weighing this across the Owned Media category, and the honest read from reviews is that the value shows up when you want to own the audience relationship and monetize it directly, with the fit depending on how much you'll actually publish.

beehiiv: Reviewers credit it with building, growing, and monetizing an audience without needing multiple tools, which is a real argument for a small team. The counterweight is pricing that some small operators find steep.

Podia: Frequently chosen by small businesses for being affordable, streamlined, and easy, with 0% transaction fees on sales, so more of the revenue stays with you. Reviewers do note limited email automation and no true blog format.

MemberSpace: Lets a small business add paid memberships to its existing website without rebuilding, with support reviewers rate very highly. The recurring caveat is transaction fees that have risen over time.

Ghost: A cost-effective option since self-hosting is free and it takes no cut of subscriptions, suited to a small business comfortable with a little setup. Less ideal if you want heavy customization without technical help.

It really depends on how consistently you're going to publish. If you're sending one email a month and posting occasionally, the cost probably doesn't justify itself. But if content is a real part of how you bring in or keep customers, having everything in one place starts to make more sense.
