# Does visual customization actually increase customer engagement and average order value in ecommerce?

<p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true">Curious how the e-commerce analytics folks here read this one. Does visual customization actually increase customer engagement and average order value in ecommerce, or does it mostly lift the vendor's case study page?</p><p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true">Been going back and forth on this, because the numbers that circulate are all vendor numbers. Cylindo cites a 35% conversion lift and an 88% lift in average order value, but those are furniture figures from its own clients. G2's data measures satisfaction with features, not revenue. So the real question is where the lift is plausible, and where it isn't.</p><p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true">From the<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/categories/visual-product-customization"> </a><a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/categories/visual-product-customization">Visual Product Customization Software</a> category on G2, three cases with a clear mechanism:</p><ul>

<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/cylindo/reviews"><strong>Cylindo</strong></a> (4.8/5, 10+ reviews): 360-spin and AR for furniture, where the product is expensive and the fear is "will it fit." The lift is confidence on a big purchase. Trade-off: the mechanism doesn't transfer to low-ticket items.</li>

<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/kickflip-kickflip/reviews"><strong>Kickflip</strong></a> (4.6/5, 120+ reviews): Bundles and dynamic pricing inside the customizer, which is the most direct route to a higher order value. Trade-off: it lifts basket size, not necessarily conversion.</li>

Trade-off: the payoff is in returns, not AOV.</li>

Visual customization is most convincing when it either increases confidence on complex purchases or encourages higher-value configurations without adding enough friction to hurt checkout.
