# Best tools for fostering cross-department collaboration

<p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true">I’m looking at G2’s<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/categories/enterprise-social-networking-esn"> <strong>Best tools for fostering cross-department collaboration</strong></a> category because the biggest gap I’m seeing isn’t “people won’t collaborate”, it’s that teams don’t share context across functions unless there’s a clean place to do it.</p><p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true">See below for my top software list:</p><ul>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/viva-engage/reviews"><strong>Viva Engage </strong></a>: Company-wide communities and threads designed for cross-team discussions. Works best when M365 is already the backbone and teams want open communities.</li>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/workvivo/reviews"><strong>Workvivo </strong></a>: Communities and social feed that can connect teams through shared updates and groups. Common where orgs want collaboration to feel lightweight and easy to join.</li>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/jive/reviews"><strong>Jive </strong></a>: Collaboration hub with spaces/communities for projects and shared knowledge. Useful when cross-department work needs structure, not just chat threads.</li>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/lumapps/reviews"><strong>LumApps </strong></a>: Intranet platform that supports comms, communities, and employee directory features. Often used when collaboration is tied to “find the right people + the right content.”</li>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/happeo/reviews"><strong>Happeo </strong></a>: Pages and channels that blend collaboration spaces with searchable information. Helpful when teams want a shared workspace that’s more organized than chat.</li>
</ul><p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true"><strong>What ESN tool actually helped cross-department collaboration in your org, and what kind of community structure worked best? </strong></p><p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true"></p><p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true"></p>
