### The API-Driven Expansion of Banking
](https://www.g2.com/articles/the-api-driven-expansion-of-banking)
Financial services aren’t just offered by financial services companies anymore. There are a few ways in which banks are expanding their reach by opening their systems to third parties via financial data APIs. The rise of banking as a service (BaaS) has allowed just about any company to expand its offerings to include financial products, but there are a few API-driven ways in which banks are connecting with third parties.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has woven itself into the fabric of many types of software by leveraging data to produce relevant insights and carry out repetitive tasks; and financial research software is no exception. AI for financial research Financial research software aggregates data and documents on user-selected topics for analysts to use in their investment selection process. Financial services professionals use this software to properly vet investments based on the amount of acceptable risk. AI is instrumental in reducing the amount of time needed to aggregate relevant information and data from reputable sources and make sound investments.

[What are the best Financial Data APIs with published uptime guarantees and incident response SLAs for production trading applications?](/discussions/what-are-the-best-financial-data-apis-with-published-uptime-guarantees-and-incident-response-slas-for-production-trading-applications)

Hey G2 users! I'm working on a buyer's guide and trying to document which [financial data APIs](https://www.g2.com/categories/financial-data-apis) have published uptime guarantees and incident response SLAs for production trading applications, not just vague availability language in the marketing copy.

What teams in this space tend to look for based on what I understand:

- A published SLA with a real uptime number, not just "high availability" in the marketing copy
- Incident response with clear escalation paths, not just a support ticket queue
- A live status page with accessible incident history
- Proactive alerts when a connected data source goes down

A few that come up in this context:

- [**Apideck Unify**](https://www.g2.com/products/apideck-unify/reviews) **:** Publishes a 99.8% uptime SLA with 24/7 support, and pricing is based on actual API calls with no caching masking real availability.
- [**Flinks**](https://www.g2.com/products/flinks/reviews) **:** Dashboard alerts when a connected bank is degraded, helping production teams get ahead of issues before customers notice.
- [**Finch**](https://www.g2.com/products/finch-finch/reviews) **:** Advance notice of outages and changes is consistent, with no unexpected downtime reported across extended production use.

What does an SLA actually need to say before you'd consider a provider production-ready for trading applications? And has any provider here met that bar when something actually went wrong?

When an API incident happened in production, did the provider help you understand whether the issue was availability, latency, stale data, or upstream source degradation quickly enough to protect trading workflows?

[What are the best Financial Data APIs with clear implementation expectations and predictable scaling costs instead of surprise billing?](/discussions/what-are-the-best-financial-data-apis-with-clear-implementation-expectations-and-predictable-scaling-costs-instead-of-surprise-billing)

I'm curious what the actual experience has been with [**financial data APIs**](https://www.g2.com/categories/financial-data-apis) with clear implementation expectations and predictable scaling costs instead of surprise billing. Pricing predictability in the API space is something I keep hearing about in developer conversations, it is harder to evaluate upfront than it should be. A few APIs that I've come across in this category:

- [**Apideck Unify**](https://www.g2.com/products/apideck-unify/reviews) **:** API call-based pricing with no caching layers, so what you test in development is what you pay for in production.
- [**Merge Unified**](https://www.g2.com/products/merge-unified/reviews) **:** Self-serve setup with well-documented common models, though some advanced features sit behind higher-tier plans worth knowing about upfront.
- [**Finch**](https://www.g2.com/products/finch-finch/reviews) **:** Proactive communication about upcoming changes keeps engineering teams from hitting unexpected rework costs mid-cycle.
- [**Rutter**](https://www.g2.com/products/rutter/reviews) **:** One integration point across commerce, accounting, and payment platforms keeps scope narrow and maintenance overhead low.

Did any of these actually hold to the pricing model once you were in production? And what's one thing you'd flag for someone evaluating costs upfront?

One thing I’d ask upfront is how costs change as connected accounts, API calls, webhooks, historical syncs, and refresh frequency increase. The biggest surprises often come from scaling patterns that were not obvious during the pilot.

[What are best Financial Data APIs providing comprehensive asset class coverage with reliable real-time data delivery?](/discussions/what-are-best-financial-data-apis-providing-comprehensive-asset-class-coverage-with-reliable-real-time-data-delivery)

Hi G2 community! We are putting together an industry piece and trying to map out which [financial data APIs](https://www.g2.com/categories/financial-data-apis) are providing comprehensive asset class coverage with reliable real-time data delivery. Would love to hear what's actually working in practice.

1. [**Plaid**](https://www.g2.com/products/plaid/reviews) **:** Connects to banking, investments, and payment data across multiple financial institutions, with secure data sharing that doesn't expose login credentials. Does it hold up for asset types beyond bank accounts?
2. [**Mastercard API**](https://www.g2.com/products/mastercard-api/reviews) **:** Straightforward to implement with a high transaction success rate and zero reported downtime across payment processing. Is real-time delivery consistent across regions?
3. [**Apigee Open Banking APIx**](https://www.g2.com/products/apigee-open-banking-apix/reviews) **:** Sends requests and captures responses reliably across JSON and XML formats, with PSD2 compliance and reusable logic built in. How does it perform under sustained production load?
4. [**Merge Unified**](https://www.g2.com/products/merge-unified/reviews) **:** Normalizes data from many sources into a single common model, removing the need for format-specific handling per integration.
5. [**RapidRatings**](https://www.g2.com/products/rapidratings/reviews) **:** Focused on financial health data for suppliers and third parties, with forward-looking analysis across both public and private companies.

Which of these has delivered the most consistent real-time delivery across the asset classes your team actually works with?

For comprehensive asset class coverage, I’d separate APIs built for account connectivity from those built for market data delivery
