Snapshots

How is the snapshot functionality from Redstor?

Hi Tuelo A snapshot is a point-in-time copy of all your data which can be used as a seed (initial) backup (for example, onto external media) to save on transfer costs and allow business operations to continue while your full first backup to the Storage Platform is completed. Additionally, snapshots are encrypted for security purposes. How to do snapshot: 1. In the Backup Selection tab of the ESE Agent, select the data that you wish to protect. (To check the size of the backup once you have selected all the relevant data, click the Size button in the toolbar at the top.) 2. Insert a USB disk into the server or present it as a network share. 3. In the Agent, go to Tools > Snapshot > Export Backup Snapshot. 4. In the dialog box that appears, tick the box The next backup must be a Snapshot backup. To backup all the data from the Agent, also tick Force a full backup.

I was a victim approximately seven months ago. Through a phishing scam, a grifter gained access to my account. They made off with 2.8 BTC. I was horrified. HOW CAN IT BE SOLVED IF THE DESTINATION DISK FILLS UP?

If there are Folders\Files that you can archive to an external drive and remove from the backup you can gain space. The other option is to get a larger drive.

Hey folks,

I’ve been helping a few teams evaluate disaster recovery and business continuity tools lately, and went down a bit of a rabbit hole on G2. Thought I’d share what I found — in case anyone else here is exploring the same space. These are some of the top-rated platforms (based on G2 Grid scores + user reviews):

Veeam Data Platform: a strong all-rounder for data protection and recovery, especially solid enterprise support.
Cove Data Protection: lightweight, cloud-first, and great for MSPs or smaller IT teams.
IDrive Online and SaaS Backup: super easy setup, affordable, and supports multiple workloads (great for small businesses).
Datto BCDR: purpose-built for MSPs, with solid on-prem + cloud recovery options.
Cohesity: known for data management and ransomware recovery capabilities.
Synology Data Protection Solutions: great for hybrid environments and NAS-based setups.

I’ve seen these come up a lot in IT and security teams’ shortlists lately. Also seeing names like Acronis Cyber Protect, Zerto, and Rubrik in a bunch of threads. Would love to hear how these tools stack up in real-world DR planning.
