Over the years, metadata support has been enhanced, with things like controlled keyword fields being added to the customizable field options. Recent additions include tools for AI based image tagging, facial recognition, etc. The fact that the tool takes advantage of foundational technologies like ImageMagick for image processing and ffmpeg for video processing means that it is extremely powerful, since it can handle any format supported by these widely-used open source tools. ResourceSpace is essential to our organization’s long-term storage and management of digital imagery, and its use for multimedia content continues to grow. The frontend offers robust organizational and workflow tools, while the backend—built on PHP/MySQL and a straightforward ID-based filesystem—remains simple and easy to maintain, especially for those already familiar with LAMP-based applications.
