## Zenmap Reviews
  ### 1. GUI front-end that brings Nmap’s power to the desktop

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Luca P. | Chief Operations Officer DEQUA Studio | Formerly CTO in MarTech, Marketing and Advertising, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2025

**What do you like best about Zenmap?**

Zenmap serves as the official graphical interface for Nmap, exposing all command-line functionality through an intuitive desktop application. The cross-platform compatibility ensures consistent deployment across Windows, Linux, and macOS environments.

Profile management streamlines recurring scans by storing configurations as reusable templates. The Command Creator pane provides real-time CLI translation, making it an effective learning tool for transitioning from GUI to command-line workflows.

Output persistence handles multiple formats (XML, grepable, SQLite) automatically, enabling historical analysis and third-party integration. The Diff function highlights changes between scan results through color-coded comparisons, accelerating change control processes.

The Topology tab renders network relationships as visual graphs, providing immediate insight into network segmentation without parsing raw traceroute data. Full NSE script integration allows vulnerability assessment directly through the interface.

**What do you dislike about Zenmap?**

The application depends on deprecated Python 2 and GTK2 libraries, creating compatibility issues on modern systems. Release cycles lag behind the core Nmap engine, leaving newer features unavailable through the GUI.

Performance degrades significantly with large result sets - the topology view becomes unresponsive beyond 2,000 hosts. Administrative privileges are required for advanced scan techniques with no graceful fallback options.

The lack of automation endpoints prevents integration with CI/CD pipelines, forcing manual workflows for routine operations.

**What problems is Zenmap solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Zenmap consolidated our scattered scanning methodology into standardized, reproducible profiles. The integrated result database eliminated manual file management for historical scan analysis.

Visual diff capabilities replaced manual Excel comparisons during change control reviews.
The Command Creator accelerated junior analyst training by demonstrating CLI syntax in real-time. Network topology visualization simplified asset mapping in complex flat networks.

Zenmap is the best tool for penetration testers, ethical hackers, and cyber security analysts It's used for showing service on web servers, open ports, and versions on web servers.it is easy to use and ease of implimentation.

**What do you dislike about Zenmap?**

yes, that is a very limited command to use . and in Kali Linux, I'm using a lot of commands. so i think that is some issue of zenmap. also, zenmap's UI is not good but I don't think integration is possible or not with zenmap.

**What problems is Zenmap solving and how is that benefiting you?**

according to me yes zenmap is problem solving tool because according to my experience, i know some commands so i don't need to start Kali and use Nmap it time taking so I use zenmap behalf of this

  ### 3. Using this tool has made it easy to scan a network and gain information like ports and services.

**What do you like best about Zenmap?**

It is easy to use and convinient, and gives many information by using different plugins.

**What do you dislike about Zenmap?**

The result is not saved anywhere, if it automatically saves the result somewhere it would be easy. As i have mistakently ended many running scans.

**What problems is Zenmap solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I work in the cybersecurity industry and it is very useful in conducting scans of a network and in figuring out open ports and services currently running along with their displayed versions.

  ### 4. Excellent tool for network security

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Richard F. | Network Security Analyst, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 13, 2021

**What do you like best about Zenmap?**

Zenmap is a relatively simple tool to use; select your target and the scans you want to perform against it. I can scan for open ports and see which services are running on them. I can also check for malware using scripts from the NSE. Its vulnerability scanning is excellent in identifying vulnerable systems for patching. With Zenmap, you can scan for vulnerabilities, see where they are within your network or devices, and begin patching them. I like that I can scan different or specific systems without having to sit directly in front of them which to me is one of the best things anout Zenmap.

**What do you dislike about Zenmap?**

The scan result can be a little difficult to read and understand. Also, it would be nice if Zenmap could download the updates or patches needed for the vulnerabilities found and install them.

**Recommendations to others considering Zenmap:**

Scan your network devices only. If you are using this professionally, ensure you have written permission to use the tool, clearly identify devices for scanning, and remember that ISP modems do not belong to the organization. Hence, don't scan them

**What problems is Zenmap solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A benefit to having Zenmap is that you can use it to uncover vulnerabilities within the environment. If you can reach a certain port you can see which service is occupying it and take the necessary action if needed. There is also the benefit of using more advanced features in the NSE for malware scanning, you can also write your own scripts with this feature and share with others.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tejas G. | Associate Security Consultant, Computer & Network Security, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 23, 2019

**What do you like best about Zenmap?**

Its a legendary network scanner tool. Zenmap is actually the interactive interface for the nmap. It’s very simple and user friendly application which can be installed on operating systems like Windows, Linux, Mac OS. Using Zenmap, once we can specify the targets it provides us options to choose scan profiles which are already inbuilt into the application like quick scan, intense scan etc. The advantage of these profiles is that we don’t need to remember the commands to run the specific nmap scans, instead we can just select one of the profiles and just hit scan button to perform the scan. Once the scans are complete this application also provides options to see output of the scan, port and host information which shows the information about the open/closed ports of the target system along with the information about services, protocols regarding the open/closed ports, host details like MAC address of the system.
Zenmap even provides options of profile editor which I think is one of the best features of this application. It actually allows to choose attributes to run the scan. It also has option to select from different categories of scripts to test particular vulnerabilities.

**What do you dislike about Zenmap?**

I don’t have any complains about this application to be fair. Zenmap is really good and helpful tool although I have observed some false positive results about the ports information provided by Zenmap for targeted systems after completion of the scans during the past.

**What problems is Zenmap solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used this tool to test vulnerabilities, obtain network information during the vulnerability assessment and penetration testing exercises of different internal and external networks.

  ### 22. The best tool for network mapping and exploration.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Miguel Angel A. | Instructor Professor, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 19, 2019

**What do you like best about Zenmap?**

My favorite thing about Zenmap is it's simplicity. It presents enough GUI controls to the nmap command line tool that makes it extremely easy to perform network exploration task without the need to memorize all the command line switches and options of nmap. Zenmap is also flexible enough to allow you to specify a custom command line for nmap beyond the typical use-case presets defined by the Zenmap developers.

Another great thing about Zenmap are it's report views that allow you to examine the network topology and details about each network host that has been detected in each exploration, if the type of exploration performed warrants it.

The ability to save and restore the results of the network explorations is also very welcome.

**What do you dislike about Zenmap?**

There isn't really anything I dislike about Zenmap. It is a tool with a single purpose and it fulfills it extremely well.

**Recommendations to others considering Zenmap:**

There isn't much needed to use Zenmap and it's command line tool nmap. If you have basic/intermediate knowledge about IP network administration then you have all you need to use Zenmap. Both Zenmap and nmap are free tools so you don't lose anything if they don't meet your requirements.

One thing to consider if you are going to use Zenmap in Windows networks: the latest versions of Zenmap and nmap (version 7 at the time of writing) don't work on versions of Windows prior to Windows 7. In this case you need to use a version of Zenmap with nmap version 6 or previous.

Unix users should have no problems using Zenmap, and it is available in the repositories of most major Linux and BSD distributions.

**What problems is Zenmap solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Zenmap mainly as a network exploration tool both in my regular place of work and also when doing consulting work. Zenmap has proven as an invaluable tool for initial exploration of computer networks, both when updating a network map and especially when mapping poorly documented networks.
