Helps me find differances, mistakes, and helps with versioning. ### 2. Different comparison modes adds extra features (text, tables or binary). A 'lite' version is integrated with UltraEdit, but is highly recommendable to acquire as part of a bundle Can be launched from inside Ultraedit session as is part of the tools catalogue from IDM and can be configured in the same way as UltraEdit. **What do you dislike about UltraCompare?** No special disgusting features. Probably what is more "disturbing" is some errors in translations into Spanish, in my case, but once reported, solution is very fast and accurate. **Recommendations to others considering UltraCompare:** Be aware that compares characters or words, not sentences, thus, some differences could appear as absurd. Consider posibility to acquire in a bundle with other tools from same manufacturer, significant price advantages can be found. **What problems is UltraCompare solving and how is that benefiting you?** Check changes among several file versions. Mainly ASCII files but not forgetting other formats. Quickly identify changes performed when the originating tool cannot provide change tracking (LSAR MIL STD, S1000D, S2000M or even HTML...) When comparing two files, and one needs to be updated for any reason, is easy to modify inside comparison window ### 3. I change my default IDE comparison tool to this in any one that will let me. The view is clean and sharp. The git integration is a newer feature that has been very helpful as well. **What do you dislike about UltraCompare?** It does require a yearly subscription now. But I've been using it for so long I bought a life time subscription years ago that the don't offer anymore. **Recommendations to others considering UltraCompare:** This is a great external comparison tool that can highlight the changes down to control characters all the way to the directory level to make your life easier. **What problems is UltraCompare solving and how is that benefiting you?** The folder compare is very useful when merging local dev files to an external server via ftp. ### 5. It's is extremely easy to compare individual files and huge collections of files in multiple folders with only a few mouse clicks, and being able to see just what's changed, and possibly even automating the updates to put them in sync is extremely powerful. This is an incredibly powerful tool that I wouldn't want to be without. **What do you dislike about UltraCompare?** Honestly, I have no complaints whatsoever. **Recommendations to others considering UltraCompare:** If you want to look for a way to compare files for changes or to confirm versions, look no further. This is the best tool out there! **What problems is UltraCompare solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have had to compare data dumps to find what's different between the two, and they're often very large files. I've also had to compare application source code to make sure multiple applications have the correct versions installed. What surprised me about the tool is that it can even automate updates to synchronize updates. ### 6. I find the three way merges very helpful in managing code and as needed comparing large productions of data to ensure the integrity of the data. When using the PDF compare tools it handles the comparisons perfectly - allowing you to identify glitches in your own software's PDF creation tools. **What do you dislike about UltraCompare?** Ultra Compare on rare occasions can take a moment to review the selected files - but that's due to it's thoroughness in comparing data. If you use Ultra Compare (and other IDM software) behind a corporate firewall you have to hand add proxy settings instead of automatic detection of the firewall. **Recommendations to others considering UltraCompare:** Buy it today along with the whole IDM suite. The tools have saved me a great deal of time. I have used Ultra Compare and its companion products for over 10 years and have always had amazing support, a great product with an easy to use interface, and most of all have always had updates available for any bugs found. **What problems is UltraCompare solving and how is that benefiting you?** Ultra Compare allows me to shorten my work time when working on many types of projects. Primarily I use Ultra Compare to work with incoming data from our clients to smooth out file issues from user managed data inputs. In most cases our clients will provide us with an update but not always tell us what was changed - with this we are able to simply identify the changes in any scale of work product. ### 7. Does a great job of comparing different file types like Excel. The folder compare functions are great and a great time saver for testing. I've mainly used text, 3 way text and binary fast modes and work as I need **What problems is UltraCompare solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use it regularly, as I'm tech-support, it's easy to pin point where the issue is when configurations has changed, as we typically backup configurations, in case something gets change and introduce problems. Also comparing configurations from good working environments versus non working ones. ### 10. So you get locked down to an older version. **Recommendations to others considering UltraCompare:** Ultra Edit is also a good addition to this tool **What problems is UltraCompare solving and how is that benefiting you?** This cuts down on time when having to make find the differences between two files and it allows you to merge the differences. It has cut down on time and mistakes. ### 11. It took a little time to sort out how to use the comparison tool. **What problems is UltraCompare solving and how is that benefiting you?** Managing evolving etl and sql jobs is very complex. Using UltraCompare to manage and test changes for enhancements is key. ### 13.
