I would have preferred more time to properly test everything before making a decision. We ran into scalability challenges, and performance was limited in high I/O scenarios. StoreMagic has worked well alongside the other tools in our infrastructure, and its been cost effective compared with other solutions we’ve looked at. We run it with VMware ESXI and manage most of the storage through vCenter, so workflow feels familiar to the team and fits naturally into how we alreday operate. Deployment was straightforward, and the solution is lightweight while still meeting our high availability needs without requiring an expensive SAN. It also intergrates Smoothly with our backup platform, which lets us protect our virtual machines without a lot if extra setup or added complexity. Another benefit is that it runs on standard hardware, so we didn’t have to rethink or replace what we already had in place. Its been stable and has handled our workloads realiably without any issues. The solution doesn’t offer data deduplication, cloud replication, or any built in comparsion features. The documentation is helpful overall, but I’d really like to see more real world examples that walk through common configuration and typical setups, so its easier to follow along. Once everything was set up and visible in the dashboard, it ran smoothly, but the intial learning curve is till a hurdle, and getting through that first stage could definitely be made simpler. With the new licensing modell of VMware it is important to chose for SMB a cheaper alternative. Besides that other solutions (like HPE Simplivity) with small node count (2-3) it is cheaper to use StorMagic solution. Also it offers tiering, which is not available for most HCI solutions. The software is one of the best tools on the market. Instead of buying a SAN and having to set up high-speed network connections, you can have a cluster storage within your servers, fast, reliable, and easy to maintain. Compared to the competition, it is affordable and the service is exceptional. I had it running for years without any updates, any maintenance, any complaints - that is a workhorse, not a diva. It is easy to set up, there are many videos online from the company that show the setup step by step.
