"Polished and useful"

What do you like best about Stack Overflow Internal?

[Disclosure: Stack Overflow offered me $25 in Amazon credit to write a review of "Stack Overflow for Teams" on this platform. My review remains uninfluenced by this incentive.]

1. It's a well-built product, and it carries over the strengths of the familiar Stack Overflow UI. Very straightforward to use with a highly polished interface.

2. It works well for the intended use-case in practice - both for async QA and a searchable knowledge base.

3. I was surprisingly pleased with the offering at the free tier. It is not crippled in any way, which is quite rare to see.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow Internal?

1. I dislike the idea of maintaining a public QA profile implicitly just by the virtue of using Stack Overflow for Teams.

2. Out of the box integrations are somewhat lackluster.

Recommendations to others considering Stack Overflow Internal:

Give it a trial run.

What problems is Stack Overflow Internal solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are a small team (<10), and felt the need for a place to conduct private techical discussions every developer could partake in. It also doubles as a searchable database of common and uncommon knowledge. It's the same problem Stack Overflow solves, just in a localized context.

"Solid solution for an internal Q&A Platform"

What do you like best about Stack Overflow Internal?

I like that everything works as we know it from the main SO platform. But the people replying to you are those from your team or group you collaborate with. This gives a very different atmosphere where you do not have to worry too much about downvotes or quality.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow Internal?

I do not think that accepting an answer makes a lot of sense. Probably the Teams solution should change some of the functionality for internal use.

Recommendations to others considering Stack Overflow Internal:

Make sure you answer questions or they are going to get sent over and over again to all members.

What problems is Stack Overflow Internal solving and how is that benefiting you?

You have a forum a place to collect and answer things.

"Store and share information within the development team"

What do you like best about Stack Overflow Internal?

My team can share their problems and get answers, which future employees can use.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow Internal?

I didn't find a way to share documents (word and power point) we already have, with an option to edit them and save the history.

Recommendations to others considering Stack Overflow Internal:

If you need to share and save knowledge in your team, use Stack Overflow for Teams. One of the benefits of Stack Overflow for Teams is that employees do not have to be connected to the company network to see the questions and answers.

What problems is Stack Overflow Internal solving and how is that benefiting you?

Out project is very complex. From time to time, employees leave the company, and new employees join us. I always looked for a way to share the information about our project, especially the tips for troubleshooting. Stack Overflow for Teams gives the exact platform I need.

"Valuable tool to share knowledge across company"

What do you like best about Stack Overflow Internal?

Very intuitive for users of regular Stackoverflow website. Nice touch is asking team members directly.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow Internal?

I can't find anything that I dislike about Stackoverflow for teams.

What problems is Stack Overflow Internal solving and how is that benefiting you?

We try to share knowledge across our remote distributed team and also sharing that with our customer success team if needed. We have used other tools like Waybook but for more technical questions/answers & quick finds this tool is better.

"Stack overflow for teams helps to collect, share and discover knowledge in a central place."

What do you like best about Stack Overflow Internal?

Information is way easier to discover, link and tag than in other systems like e.g. confluence.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow Internal?

It is hard to onboard people that are not familiar with the concept of stackexchange as it can overwhelm them.

Recommendations to others considering Stack Overflow Internal:

Make sure to get everyone in the same picture about the concept of Stack Overflow in general and help new users onboard by putting up good examples.

What problems is Stack Overflow Internal solving and how is that benefiting you?

SO for teams helps to sync and share information between teams in a bigger department as it allows to lookup solutions to re-occuring problems. It's easier to ask a question about missing links than to think of what specific information should be put into documentation upfront.

Documenting software or systems in general can never cover all use-cases and will leave blind spots that people can easily fill by asking and answering questions in SO for teams.

"Its what we're used to, but for internal questions"

What do you like best about Stack Overflow Internal?

We can tag certain team members who may know the answer or question domain best. Also, the recognition aspect helps motivate people to answer with very clear, concise, and helpful answers. We can use simple emojis to express gratitude for their time in answering or comment further on their response. Instead of losing knowledge or repeating questions and answers over and over again, we can store these all in one easy-to-search repository.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow Internal?

There is a fear that you may accidentally place a question in the wrong place that may end up publically viewable and contain sensitive information about the internal infrastructure. If we could make it obviously branded to our company colours, for example, this would make it easier to see the difference. Much like we would use colours to differentiate between staging and production environments.

Recommendations to others considering Stack Overflow Internal:

Put a process in place to funnel queries into Stack Overflow for Teams and have the right knowledge sources respond to them, and should someone have a question, have it become the first place they look. Not just highly technical questions, either. It can work with other teams to capture their knowledge.

"Stack Overflow for Teams is perfect"

What do you like best about Stack Overflow Internal?

I like the knowledge-sharing possibility between team members. Anybody can ask a question and the other team members will get notified then. Someone with matching knowledge about the topic will answer you soonly. You can search for the questions and answers and that even help you more.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow Internal?

Still, nothing, using it for a couple of months, and it exceeded my expectations

Recommendations to others considering Stack Overflow Internal:

Try and you will see a lot of benefits of it

What problems is Stack Overflow Internal solving and how is that benefiting you?

We have a Salesforce community inside the company team. Knowledge sharing is the most important benefit

"Great tool to share knowledge in teams"

What do you like best about Stack Overflow Internal?

If StackOverflow can successfully handle many questions in the public version, it can help us organize our internal knowledge sharing. In addition, I like how it allows us to search for existing questions/answers.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow Internal?

Sometimes I have issues with the formatting of answers... Maybe I do something in the wrong way; I'm not sure. And I really really want to attach gifs, while I can only attach static images.

What problems is Stack Overflow Internal solving and how is that benefiting you?

We develop software based on our framework. Fortunately, the issues which we encounter during development are the same for different projects. And StackOverflow helps us to share knowledge and best practices. Also, when we get excellent questions/answers, we share them with the public via other services.

"Industry Standard for Knowledge Bases and Q&A"

What do you like best about Stack Overflow Internal?

Team management tools, reports, price, familiarity. The internal nature of this product makes developers less fearful of negative responses to their questions. This is ideal for encouraging junior developers to be proactive and remove barriers in them seeking help. They also provide a Slack integration so that there is good visibility around the questions being asked on here.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow Internal?

Per-user pricing model can be steep and presents budget difficulties for scaling teams

Recommendations to others considering Stack Overflow Internal:

Encourage your juniors and new hires to get on here early and teach them to ask questions through here. It will drastically improve the base level of knowledge on here.

What problems is Stack Overflow Internal solving and how is that benefiting you?

Easy to navigate knowledge base with plenty of tags for new team members to find information on their own, and existing team members to learn about other domains. A very useful tool for onboarding new team members and getting them up to speed.

"Simple and Valuable As Such"

What do you like best about Stack Overflow Internal?

I like how I can easily ask a question on my Teams board, have others be notified when the question is asked, and get responses in a format that I'm comfortable with from years of using SO.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow Internal?

If you don't use tags/labels properly, you end up with a large amount of knowledge being kept in one place that becomes hard to sift through to find that one piece of info you're after. If you don't use tags/labels properly, you just end up with a large amount of knowledge being kept in one place that becomes hard to sift through to find that one piece of info you're after. If you don't use tags/labels properly, you just end up with a large amount of knowledge being kept in one place that becomes hard to sift through to find that one piece of info you're after.

Recommendations to others considering Stack Overflow Internal:

If you're looking for a basic solution to reoccurring questions that may appear at your business, SO teams is a good fit.

What problems is Stack Overflow Internal solving and how is that benefiting you?

As a small team of devs, we have become dependant on certain engineers to do specific tasks. Teams allows us to share this info in a central location that each member of the team can reference and look up later. It also helps make sure that if anyone leaves or moves on, that their knowledge remains accessable. If you don't use tags/labels properly, you just end up with a large amount of knowledge being kept in one place that becomes hard to sift through to find that one piece of info you're after.
