"A vast repository of knowledge"

What do you like best about Stack Overflow Internal?

All the standard stack overflow features are here. From asking questions to rating and accepting answers, however, it's more than just that in teams. You can ask questions and find solutions that are unique to your environment and processes, and it's familiar to developers everywhere.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow Internal?

One of the few downsides is that clout or karma gained in teams does not transfer beyond the organization. I understand that contributions made to the team do not help the general public, but it would be nice to get at least partial or some credit on the platform as a whole. Which, in turn, could be a motivating factor in contributing there as well.

What problems is Stack Overflow Internal solving and how is that benefiting you?

We have the same onboarding questions over and over. It's nice to point new hires and new-to-the-position employees to a centralized resource that can help them become productive even quicker.

"Answers for work, on demand!"

What do you like best about Stack Overflow Internal?

It's just like standard SO, so the UX is familiar to the developers, and we get to have answers to common questions at the ready now. No more having to wait until someone with the knowledge is available to get an answer.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow Internal?

There's honestly nothing that I dislike about the experience.

What problems is Stack Overflow Internal solving and how is that benefiting you?

It's preventing developers from stalling on questions related to their projects. If they don't understand a particular issue, they can ask their question on SO for teams and move on to something else until an answer is posted.

"Stack Overflow for Teams works wonderfully as documentation and interaction generating tool"

What do you like best about Stack Overflow Internal?

I like that it has all the functionality that Stack Overflow provides, but since it is a private team, we can focus on relevant matters and keep it a bit more flexible.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow Internal?

One downside I've found is that it lacks of customization features, while it keeps it simple, being able to visually and functionally customize the platform could generate more practical usage

What problems is Stack Overflow Internal solving and how is that benefiting you?

It solves documentation for solving problems at an early stage of a company, it also helps keep a record of what has been discussed and eventually, when the company grows and new members have questions, they can search for answers and, based on interaction, locate the team members more suitable for their particular questions.

"Central source for your organization"

What do you like best about Stack Overflow Internal?

Information is private, yet accessible, using the same basic platform as Stack Exchange. Once a user is logged in to the team, that user can post for others to easily read and respond; these posts will not be seen by the public. Since the workflow is much the same as Stack Exchange, our team members need less of a learning curve for other sources of their information for work. The login to stackoverflow.com is the same as our team, which is convenient. But, the system also helps verify whether a user is writing a post for the public or for our private team.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow Internal?

Some features require paid subscription. The fee isn't too high, and a free account has a lot of power. But, the need to pay in order to get the most is a consideration.

Recommendations to others considering Stack Overflow Internal:

Connect Teams with Slack. This can keep normal chat-based discussion where it needs to be.

What problems is Stack Overflow Internal solving and how is that benefiting you?

Teams gives us one, unified go-to place for information. If anyone on our team has a question, they know they can get an answer that will be in line with corporate guidance. While any team member may offer input, posts clearly indicate the author, so the team knows the level of authority an answer comes from. Moreover, when a team member lower in the administration provides a useful answer, the whole administration can see that team member's wisdom with transparency throughout the organization.

"It's easy to set-up and helps team members create a knowledge base that is very helpful."

What do you like best about Stack Overflow Internal?

Ease of use and UI. The feature to add tags is especially useful.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow Internal?

Although everything is well thought out and easy to use, the only downside is that we can not add more than 50 members in the free version.

What problems is Stack Overflow Internal solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are a team of learners who have a ton of questions and it helps us with the communication and the ability to solve problems and share them with the rest of the team.

"Exactly what you would expect for teams"

What do you like best about Stack Overflow Internal?

It makes documenting common issues in our stack super easy. The questions and answers are super valuable when onboarding new teammates. Coupled with integrations for apps like Slack. Stackoverflow for Teams is super valuable

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow Internal?

I'm probably biased because I have used SO for years, I have no complaints

What problems is Stack Overflow Internal solving and how is that benefiting you?

It centralizes knowledge about our internal processes and applications. Its ease of use makes it valuable to new team members who are joining complex projects, and keeps the rest of the team distraction free from common issues

"Great tool for organization knowledge base"

What do you like best about Stack Overflow Internal?

It's great, Since it's about answering exact questions, it's much better than the classic "create documentation page - answer questions in private - forget to update documentation - forget about documentation as it's not useful at all". Finally, a great tool for proper documentation.

Other strong points:

- All developers (and many not developers) are used to StackOverflow already

- Great search and easy tagging

- Simple and convenient editor

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow Internal?

Not actually dislikes, but would be great to:

- It's not always clear (even if the button says that) that question will be private or public... maybe some custom branding with company logo would help

- Would be great to export some questions and answers as pdf

Recommendations to others considering Stack Overflow Internal:

Just start using it ;)

What problems is Stack Overflow Internal solving and how is that benefiting you?

- It's hard to maintain and verify that documentation and guides are complete and useful

- Cover basic questions for newcomers

"Super easy to manage information and documents within team , its like our little team space"

What do you like best about Stack Overflow Internal?

The interface is really easy to understand. Makes it easy to store frequently referred information and share it with other team members. Integration with slack makes the team communication searchable afterward.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow Internal?

Nothing as such, everything is simple enough

What problems is Stack Overflow Internal solving and how is that benefiting you?

Stack overflow is helping my small team to refer to frequently asked questions like how to set up the workspace, where to find jars, what classes to use for security etc. Earlier, we use to manage the documentation in the repository but with new team members joining and old ones leaving, it was difficult to search for them. With Stack overflow, we can just search using some keywords making it really fast to find the important stuff

"Perfect way to keep helpful answers in place"

What do you like best about Stack Overflow Internal?

Every developer knows how to use Stack Overflow so, that's a good starting point. The integration between your public profile and enterprise profile works well and keeps things in one place. Other integrations like Jira and Slack are very valuable because it helps to keep helpful answers in one place and avoids knowledge to be in random areas which are hard to search for. I guess that's what I like the most, be able to search "internal" knowledge in one place, and it works.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow Internal?

I miss a great mobile app to interact with Stack Overflow. Reviewing or contributing while we are on the run is more accessible on a tablet or phone, but there are no reasonable solutions, unfortunately.

Recommendations to others considering Stack Overflow Internal:

Motivate people to post in Teams when something has been discussed and might be helpful to others.

What problems is Stack Overflow Internal solving and how is that benefiting you?

It solves knowledge fragmentation that can quickly happen when we discuss things on chats and end up lost.

"No more mind-dumps documentations!"

What do you like best about Stack Overflow Internal?

Stack Overflow was my "go-to" place when having a problem for many years now. Announcing Stack Overflow for Teams made me very interesting, but only after the team made it free of charge for teams smaller than 50 I was able to convince anyone at the company to try and use it. Although it's not easy to convince people to actually use it, ask questions or answer them (apparently some people visit Stack Overflow, but barely engage and ask questions), once we actually managed to encourage them to do so, we got many questions we were otherwise not able to get with our daily communication tools (Teams, mail, and so on).

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow Internal?

The only thing that is to be disliked is the fact that you cannot add new tags from mobile. A somewhat weird (although understandable) restriction for the free model.

Recommendations to others considering Stack Overflow Internal:

Turn your documentation from a minddump to an interactive experience! It's very easy to start, so you can just try it.

What problems is Stack Overflow Internal solving and how is that benefiting you?

We're making our documentation more interactive. We don't just write mind dumps, we react to questions from users. We encourage people to ask questions and know what should be documented. Thanks to that we not only onboard new developers in the project, we also ensure that these questions last longer for next developers to join us. Thanks to that we can ensure a living documentation. Previously some person, unwillingly, created a document thinking only about what can bu written down. Now, when someone asks a questions we know which parts of the system actually require a highlight. We not only write documents, now we are making them interactively into more complex, more readable documents.
