"The Best Way To Present Your Design"

What do you like best?

Think of it as a dynamic drawing. SolidWorks Composer allows design to be automatically updated in the graphics. you can demonstrate products before production with a 2D and 3D illustrations or animations with ease.

What do you dislike?

Program crashes occasionally, make sure to save often. Export file format needs to be expanded to meet all demands. Rendering speed needs to be increased.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Best one on the market so far for animation and presentation.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Presentation with parts I designed to showcase how it would work in assembly as well as exploded view

"Works for us!!!"

What do you like best?

Drag and drop solidworks models, have clean exploded assemblies for use of documents such as installation guide. Similar features and buttons as SolidWorks, so as a SolidWorks user, it's not that different.

What do you dislike?

It has a lot of bugs, so when I am working on a large assembly file and don't want to lose my focus, I continue to work and it will randomly "shut down". With that, I lose my work because I didn't save it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We're using SolidWorks composer to create our installation guides for our product. We have step by step exploded view screenshots with an explanation. So it is helping us a lot as a company to have clean installation documents for our products.

What Other CAD solution do you use?

Thanks for letting us know!

"Great for basic product demonstrations and motion studies. "

What do you like best?

This software is very easy to use, and there are tons of tutorials online on how to do create nice camera paths, but it is very limited as far as effects. It is really only good for creating camera paths around your models.

What do you dislike?

This is really only for creating cameras and your camera paths/ flybys and very limited in what you can do with your models and lacking any visual effects. We are currently using adobe premier after to add in our effects which is somewhat time consuming and only ads another step.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are looking to making very basic animations and flybys this may be a great solution, but if you need more advanced effects and more rendering options check out Cinema 4d. It will allow you to import your models as an STL or similar and create outstanding effects with your products.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Creating product demo videos, and able to shoot models and rended them to look realistic for pre product releases.

"Not Intuitive But Useful "

What do you like best?

I like ability to manipulate an object in three-dimensions. As a technical illustrator that's a must have.

What do you dislike?

Not very intuitive, often times the controls and or the lack of functionality makes the prism a pain to use even after you have gotten used to it. It is also fairly inconsistent

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you need a 3D program it did it's job, but I'd never give this one high marks

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Technical illustrators are expected to quickly and competently create clear and detailed illustrations for manuals. Having a 3D model manipulation program does greatly assist in my tasks.

"Great Tool"

What do you like best?

It's a great tool from SolidWorks to get all the manufacturing process done in a simple and fast way. it's easy to go from a 3d prototype (potentially 3d print) and them drill it down for manufacturing validation

What do you dislike?

no major issues found that would like to raise. In general, the SolidWorks tools are not straightforward tools in the sense that we need to invest some time and effort to learn how to use it properly, nevertheless the tutorials are pretty good but if the interface would be more intuitive, that would be a great plus.

Recommendations to others considering the product

the tool is brilliant but continuous improvement is always required to stay in the lead position

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

development of new products/prototypes and manufacturing planning/assessment
