**What do you like best about ServiceNow Enterprise Architecture?**

What I like most about ServiceNow SPM is how effectively it bridges the gap between high-level business strategy and day-to-day operational execution. As a Strategic Advisor, I find the Strategic Planning Workspace (SPW) invaluable because it clearly shows how individual projects map to and support Enterprise goals via a clear roadmap built from foundational data.

Its integration with the broader ServiceNow platform, specifically leveraging the CMDB as a true single source of truth which ensures that strategic decisions are grounded in technical reality, something many siloed PMO tools lack. This significantly improves ROI by making it easier to allocate resources to the highest-value initiatives and move toward Enterprise Agile.

Additionally, the onboarding experience is bolstered by a wealth of community resources that help non-technical stakeholders get up to speed quickly. Even when handling heavier enterprise-scale workloads, the system performance remains highly reliable and responsive. On top of that, the recent GenAI enhancements have streamlined the demand management process, allowing us to move from idea to execution much faster than before.

**What do you dislike about ServiceNow Enterprise Architecture?**

While the Strategic Planning Workspace (SPW) in ServiceNow SPM is exceptionally powerful, the initial learning curve for non-technical project managers can be steep. The interface is packed with features, which is great for a mature PMO but can feel overwhelming for smaller teams just starting their journey.

To bridge this gap, I would love to see more robust out-of-the-box Playbooks to guide users through the strategic lifecycle and smarter use of UI Policies to create simplified, role-based profiles. This would allow business stakeholders to focus on tracking Target Outcomes and Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) without getting lost in complex technical configurations. Providing a more 'guided' experience would significantly accelerate time-to-value for clients moving toward Enterprise Agile.

**What problems is ServiceNow Enterprise Architecture solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a Strategic Advisor, I help clients create a clear roadmap for digital transformation by using ServiceNow CMDB as the single source of truth. We start by building a strong data foundation, so every strategic decision is anchored in technical reality.

Our approach is to implement PPM first to gain immediate visibility into resource allocation and overall project health. After that foundation is established and mature, we move into Strategic Alignment through the Strategic Planning Workspace (SPW), mapping each initiative directly to corporate goals and Target Outcomes.

This structured progression ultimately supports Enterprise Agile at scale, enabling clients to pivot quickly without losing sight of long-term business objectives. By addressing the “fragmented data” problem, we help organizations shift from reactive firefighting to proactive, data-driven portfolio management that delivers measurable ROI.

Instead of enterprise architecture being a static documentation exercise, ServiceNow makes it more dynamic, actionable, and integrated with real operational workflows.

A few standout strengths are:

The user interface, while powerful, can feel overwhelming or unintuitive for new users, leading to a steep learning curve. Customization is flexible but sometimes requires scripting or technical expertise, which can slow down adoption. Additionally, licensing and overall costs can be quite high, making it less accessible for smaller companies. Performance can occasionally lag when handling very large datasets or complex portfolios, and reporting, while robust, may require extra configuration to meet specific business needs.

ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management solves several key problems around disconnected planning, poor visibility, and inefficient resource use, and that directly translates into more control, clarity, and better outcomes.

One of the biggest problems it solves is the lack of alignment between strategy and execution. In many organizations, leadership defines goals, but teams work on projects that don’t clearly support them. SPM fixes this by linking portfolios, programs, and projects directly to strategic objectives, so every initiative has a clear purpose. This benefits me by making priorities obvious and ensuring my work contributes to meaningful business outcomes.

It also addresses poor visibility across projects and investments. Without a centralized system, it’s hard to know what’s happening, where money is going, or which initiatives are at risk. SPM provides real-time dashboards and reporting, giving me a clear, single source of truth. This helps me make faster, more informed decisions instead of relying on fragmented data.

Another major issue it solves is inefficient resource management. Teams often face over-allocation, underutilization, or skill mismatches. With built-in resource planning and capacity management, SPM allows better allocation of people based on demand and availability. For me, that means less burnout, better workload balance, and improved productivity.

Financial tracking is another area where it adds value. Many organizations struggle to connect budgets with actual outcomes. SPM enables detailed financial planning, forecasting, and tracking, so I can see where investments are going and whether they are delivering value. This leads to better cost control and smarter investment decisions.

Finally, it improves collaboration and reduces silos by bringing different teams—IT, business, finance—onto one platform. Instead of working in isolation, everyone shares the same data and workflows. For me, this means smoother communication, fewer misunderstandings, and faster execution of projects.

Overall, it turns scattered, manual processes into a structured, data-driven system, helping me work more efficiently, stay aligned with goals, and make better decisions.

I use ServiceNow Enterprise Architecture for application lifecycle and management, and I like the visibility it provides. It assists with dashboarding and accountability, which is important as we track all applications and hold app owners accountable for the various lifecycle aspects like end of life, incidents, and changes.

**What do you dislike about ServiceNow Enterprise Architecture?**

We find the workspace hard to use. The lifecycle statuses are hard to keep in sync with other statuses. It's unreasonable to ask business app owners to keep four statuses updated in addition to a large number of other fields. There should be an easier way to maintain the lifecycle of the app. The initial setup was also difficult.

As an IT Manager, ServiceNow Enterprise Architecture gives us a centralized view of our application and technology landscape, which is genuinely useful for planning and governance. The integration with the rest of the ServiceNow platform means we don’t have to jump between tools — CI relationships, change management, and architecture diagrams all live in one place. It’s made stakeholder conversations easier when we need to justify infrastructure decisions.”

The learning curve is steep, and the out-of-box configuration doesn’t always match how our organization actually maps its architecture. Customization takes significant time and ServiceNow expertise. I like about a touch of review process artifact version tables that are being used are well constructed and approval approval flow are easy to maintain and very young and feedback look through the auto questioning is a great for tracking the changes

I think I use it as user expenses can be an answer of there are a lot of especially navigating from my user to the version and run the approval through the new action so that is confusing experience for the integers

The biggest value of EAW is that it moves asset management from scattered forms and tables into a role-based operational workspace, bringing dashboards, workflows, analytics, and maintenance management together in one place.

It's used for security, resiliency, identity and access management, application health, and many other domains beyond its intended purpose. The initial setup wasn't easy because of our excessive customization—it's a long journey.

I find ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management useful as a business leader since it helps in directing the projects executio It offers momentary control into projects consequently offers a worthy method of ranking projects and permits insightful decision-making. Due to integration and ease of use, portfolio management on the platform brings versatility to the company’s processes and ensures that changes to the business landscapes do not hinder the platform from delivering the required ROI.

ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management is a strong module, but not easy to implement and expand to its fullest. The learning curve of this tool may slow the rate at which it will be adopted in the various teams. It has many features that may seem excessive in some cases, and it can be expensive for organisations with a limited budget to free up for training. I have also noticed that some particular types of the custom reports can be difficult to create, sometimes it is necessary to use additional workarounds or extra modules.

The ServiceNow new feature called Strategic Portfolio Management helps in addressing our issues within projects prioritization and resource management. The huge range of functions within the suite captures and empowers every stage in an organisation's journey of investment and growth.  

Starting with the Goal Framework service, where decision-makers can share their organisation's direction and the targets they want to hit on the way to that outcome.

The Idea service provides a powerful and intuitive way to empower the entire organisation to contribute to those goals, and to get their voice and opinion heard and recognised. 

The Demand service allows Demand Managers to really flesh out the opportunities for investment, so they can present fully costed proposals to those responsible for making the strategy a reality.

If your organisation is an Agile software company, delivering change through iterative sprints led by scrum masters, you can use ServiceNow's Agile Delivery service. ServiceNow is useful for much more than just Enterprise IT Management - Strategy starts with the C-level executives, and ServiceNow offers visualisation of the delivery of these objectives back to the board level.  It does this whilst handling every level of the service down to the experiences of individual project managers and demand managers, and the interface by which users can share their ideas for how the company can achieve its goals.  The single platform, already present in so many places for ITSM and management of the IT estate, is already available so extending it to adopt their SPM service is often a very simple and nimble step.

ServiceNow PPM has a very good intuitive dashboard - 'My Project space' which provides the visibility of the project planning, risks, and tracking things. It also provides a platform for the ideas of the people working on the things and provides space and a way to communicate innovative ideas and convert them to plan and implement the same. It suits all the project implementations in a waterfall, agile and hybrid. The ServiceNow PPM provided a well-planned and ordered coherent way for approaching the project implementation without losing the big picture of the project.

**What do you dislike about ServiceNow Enterprise Architecture?**

Overall a good experience, there are quite some bugs and we need to wait for a long time to get them fixed. And, also it is hard for people to get started initially and it takes a lot of time to settle in and use the product.

For the project manager, it is kind of the one-stop solution for all project-related implementations things. project planning console saves time and provided complete visibility. A historical status report of the project, helped us to track what happened during the specific period of the project, and how we can foresee things. Financial reporting provided a strategic way for resource planning, budgeting, and making innovative ideas to get implemented in projects.

The back end development side is supporting java and JavaScript. It is very flexible.
ServiceNow is serving as Saas and Paas as well.It offers a full-featured tracking system that allows the attachment of documents and other objects.

**What do you dislike about ServiceNow Enterprise Architecture?**

it is hard to find areas for improvement, the tool is very powerful. That said, building the CMDB still involves some manual interaction which was not how it was presented in demos.
The CMDB data is almost too deep and detailed. When you build the relationship map it can be so large that it is overwhelming. You can limit this, but the default maps are massive if you are discovering lots of device classes.

ServiceNow does a great job of creating a one-stop-shop for ticketing for any organization large or small. The system has the ability to scale easily to both internal and external customers.
ServiceNow has the ability to scale beyond ticketing to include contract and project management modules to further support one single operation for administration.It does a great job building a CMDB based on data scanned by ITOM. We have looked at lots of competing products and they all require a ton of manual interaction to build a CMDB. The ServiceNow product is the most automated solution we have found.
