"Potential for Organization of Large Databases"
3.5/5
What do you like best about erwin Data Modeler?

I like the possibility of better organizing the structure of my MongoDB with erwin Data Modeler. With a large database and no data team, it becomes difficult to have a clear view of everything that exists there. I believe that erwin can really help to better organize this structure, making it more visual and documented. This makes it easier to better understand the collections and fields, and perhaps find inconsistencies or things that need improvement. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about erwin Data Modeler?

I haven't used it in practice yet, but for me, it would need to be simple to start and generate documentation. A very user-friendly getting started guide would be ideal. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful Data Modeling with Governance Made Simple"
5/5
What do you like best about erwin Data Modeler?

What makes erwin Data Modeler stand out for me is how it turns data models into more than just diagrams—it becomes a shared language between business and IT. Its biggest advantage is that you can embed rules, standards, and metadata directly into the design, so the model carries context along with the underlying structure.

From a practical standpoint, it also scores well on Ease of Use. The interface feels intuitive and works for both technical and non-technical users. Ease of Implementation is another strong point, since it’s quick to set up and connect to existing databases. And when it comes to Ease of Integration, it works smoothly across multiple platforms and environments. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about erwin Data Modeler?

What I like about erwin Data Modeler is that it can feel heavy and complex for smaller projects with a steep learning curve and higher licensing costs compared to simpler tools. In short, its powerful but sometimes overskill when you just need lightweight modelling. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful, Complete Modeling for Seamless Database Sync and Change Management"
4.5/5
What do you like best about erwin Data Modeler?

What I like about this modeller of it powerful complete compare feature, which make database synchronization and change management seamless. The reverse engineering is also excelent for documenting and analyzing various system solution. Visual mapping between logical and phisical modelsn for better and faster understanding. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about erwin Data Modeler?

It can sometimes feel a bit heavy and resource-intensive when working with massive models containing hunders or thousand of tables. The performance could be improved during large-scale operations, and occasionally, the error messages during reverse engineering can be crypting and hard to troubleshoot. "Industry Standard for Data Modeling with Room for Optimization"
4.5/5
What do you like best about erwin Data Modeler?

I like Erwin Data Modeler because it's basically an industry standard data modeling and database design tool. I find it very useful for discovering and visualizing data architectures, effectively bridging the gap between business and IT. It translates complex data into structured physical and logical schemas for a variety of platforms like relational, noSQL, and SQL big data environments. Additionally, I appreciate its support for modern platforms like Snowflake, Databricks, Azure, MongoDB, and Cassandra. The modern UI looks very good and I find the tool easy to use, especially with its UI, metadata engine, and the way it backs shapes with strict database data types, keys, and definitions. I also like how it offers bidirectional DDL scripts, which are great for forward engineering or importing databases into graphics, and it handles RDBMS seamlessly. Good model synchronization is another feature I appreciate. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about erwin Data Modeler?

I think erwin Data Modeler could improve by incorporating natural language processing (NLP) so that users can input commands like 'create a MongoDB schema' and the tool would generate the logic based on NLP instead of plain text prompts. Initially, I was concerned about the UI, but with the modern UI updates, it looks very good now. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Revolution in Database Management, Interface that Requires Improvements"
3.5/5
What do you like best about erwin Data Modeler?

I like how erwin Data Modeler makes everything much clearer. Although the database I inherited was a complete mess with strange names and undocumented relationships, the reverse engineering offered by erwin allowed me to connect the tool with my database and generate a diagram automatically. This was a revelation, as I was able to visualize the more than one hundred tables, their relationships, and easily detect bottlenecks. It's like turning on the light in a dark room. Additionally, it helped me organize the entire database I had, solving many problems along the way. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about erwin Data Modeler?

Well, I would say that it is a tool with which there are many clashes with the interface. It is quite old, and it is very complicated to use. There are menus within menus, windows on top of windows. You have to make many clicks to get to something that should be just 1. And a lot of time is lost on that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Extremely Robust Software with Broad Data Modeling Support"
4.5/5
What do you like best about erwin Data Modeler?

It's an extremely robust piece of software, and I am especially fond of its wide range of applications. It accommodates varied data strategies including classic dimensional modeling, Data Vault, and NoSQL structures. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about erwin Data Modeler?

The license pricing is clearly aimed at enterprise budgets, which makes it prohibitively expensive for small teams or solo developers. On top of that, the free trial is limited to just 25 entities, so it’s hard to properly evaluate larger-scale reverse-engineering needs before committing to a purchase. "Erwin Data Modeler Makes Database Version Comparisons Fast and Intuitive"
4/5
What do you like best about erwin Data Modeler?

Erwin Data Modeler made it easy to compare two historical versions of a Microsoft SQL Server CRM database by visually highlighting changes across tables, columns, relationships, and other schema objects. I especially appreciated how intuitive the interface was to navigate throughout the comparison process. The model explorer, diagram views, and comparison reports made it straightforward to move between database objects and quickly drill down into specific differences. Instead of spending hours reviewing SQL scripts, I could efficiently see how the database evolved, document the key changes, and communicate my findings to both technical and business stakeholders. Overall, the combination of visual modeling and a well-organized, user-friendly interface reduced analysis time and improved visibility into the database structure. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about erwin Data Modeler?

While my overall experience with erwin Data Modeler was positive, there are a few areas where it could be improved. The application offers a large number of features and configuration options, which can feel overwhelming at times—especially when handling tasks that should be relatively straightforward. Although the interface is functional, parts of the UI feel dated compared with newer software platforms, and it can take more clicks than necessary to reach commonly used functions.

I also noticed that very large models can become cluttered, which makes diagrams harder to navigate unless you spend time organizing objects and adjusting layouts. On top of that, some of the more advanced features require a deeper understanding of the product, creating a steeper learning curve for new users. None of these issues stopped me from accomplishing what I needed to do, but they did occasionally slow my workflow. Even so, the platform’s strengths outweighed these drawbacks, particularly when I was working on complex database comparison and documentation projects. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
