For example real servers are *not* configred under "Real Servers" section. It's diffult to find the settings and setting for related things are spread across serveal sections. In consistent placement of the buttons. Inconsistent filed names, sometimes all caps like "Connectivity Timeout" sometimes mixed case like "Retry attempts" just below it. Lack of support for Duo 2FA. Michael's technical ability to troubleshoot issues is amazing! I was able to show Michael what I was having issues with and what the expected result was. He took the time to listen and understand the issue and then crafted a solution to resolve my issues. **What do you dislike about Progress Kemp LoadMaster?** The only challenging area is that the load balancer is very complex and unless you use them all of the time, it is a little confusing on how to setup the things you need. However, Kemp support is always there and willing to assist. **Recommendations to others considering Progress Kemp LoadMaster:** This is a solid product that will do what it says. The updates are very easy to apply and do not take long to install. As well, this device runs and runs well without needing to be rebooted. Since Kemp offers a smaller (20Mbps) free/unsupported version, I used it for initial testing in my home lab. Creating a highly available configuration was very simple (we are running two nodes in HA). I have it setup and don't have to worry about it. We are able to utilize more resources with Kemp than we had before. The load balancing before was a very manual process and we could not right size our environment because we had to account for unbalanced loads. Now we have saved resources and man power since adopting Kemp. **What do you dislike about Progress Kemp LoadMaster?** I would like to see more automation. The automated tasks that I do daily could be integrated more so with Kemp. If I could get some automation in events of servers or resources unavailability that could minimize the interaction that have to do. I would love to be able to setup automations that call out powershell scripts or something like that. **Recommendations to others considering Progress Kemp LoadMaster:** Utilize their support. It is a very great knowledgable team. They will help you with anything you need. If we have or need a maintenance window for one of the other e-mail servers, Kemp will still deliver your e-mail traffic to the other server. It just works. It is easy to apply windows updates to your Exchange environment, and using the Kemp Load Balancer made it easier to handle. Another great feature is the ability to use the Kemp Load Balancer virtual appliance in our VMware environment. **What do you dislike about Progress Kemp LoadMaster?** In the web interface, there are a lot of settings in the different menus and it would be helpful if there were an interactive help system or tooltips to help the administrators find and configure the right settings. The configuration of "standard" services is quite easy but when you configure more advanced settings, it's no longer easy and can be challenging. The Kemp Load Balancer is a very good product out of the VMware ISO (Box). After a few discussions with resellers and external consultants, we decided on the Kemp Load Balancer solution. Our installation is a virtual Kemp Load Balancer based on VMware. We have configured four Exchange Servers in a DAG configuration and we have been very satisfied since it was installed. In the future, we would like to map further services via the Kemp. ### 22. I have had no issues using the Kemp Load Balancer in VM hosts, physiocal servers and I can point it at a physical machine easily. It really has been a critical part of our transformation from Agile to DevOps. The deployment of Kemp could not be easier either. We transitioned from a physical kemp to a virtual in a single day. Automated backups ensure if anything happens with the Kemp Load Balancer I would easily be able to restore the Kemp Load Balancer to a new pair of virtual Kemps in a short amount of time. **What do you dislike about Progress Kemp LoadMaster?** The user experience is a little bit out of date. The statistics and graphs are functional and effective however they do seem to be a bit circa 2010. I think that one of the items that Kemp could do to improve is make a more interactive set of statistics based on logging Statistics and graphs could be prettier and it would be nice to be able to drill down on more data points. Also the save feature works quite well. However in my experience I need to save each time I change a field on a page. That could be slightly streamlined as well. When evaluating other vendors, some were priced too high - Kemp provides for us that right balance of features, performance, throughput and price that we were looking for, so we are very happy about that. **What do you dislike about Progress Kemp LoadMaster?** Would like to see more details in real time statistics. It shows the number of active connections and also for the past 5/30/60 mins, but it would be nice to be able to drill down further regarding the IP addresses of the clients. Being able to export the real time statistics and historical graphs from the interface would be a nice plus. **Recommendations to others considering Progress Kemp LoadMaster:** Kemp provides a very easy initial setup, configuration and management experience. Many of the techs on my staff are easily able to login and use/configure the LoadMaster easily without requiring any training at all. Definitely look at the management interface and you will see that it is very easy to use - you don't need to load multiple config pages just to configure a single virtual service, which some vendors require. Also check out the templates that Kemp provides for many vendors (Microsoft, Oracle, etc.) which provides a quick config setup for a particular solution so you don't have to fiddle around with tweaking multiple settings - the template does it all for you. We have not had any problems using these templates. Licensing is also quite easy and the product is very scalable and very stable. We also needed a product that was provided virtually instead of traditional hardware, highly available, and would work on our Hyper-V clustered environment, since not many virtual products would work on Microsoft's hypervisor. We were able to deploy the virtual LoadMaster on two different Hyper-V clusters to meet the high availability that we were looking for. **What problems is Progress Kemp LoadMaster solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have many on-premise applications that need to be always-on accessible, and the Kemp LoadMaster provided a highly-available solution that met the needs of all the applications. Previously, we had multiple CAS servers and Mailbox servers and Kemp was handling that environment greatly. We also used it to migrate to a Single CAS with multiple DAGs. The process was very simple on the Kemp side. It also assisted us in making less needed changes on the Exchange environment since delivery for DNS records points to the kemp device to handle the loading balancing. Migration times were significantly lower due to having less changes needed. We also are using it to assist us with uptime due to any possible maintenance windows we have and/or any troubleshooting with the server environment. Kemp allowed us to reboot servers and not affect mail delivery, as it will still deliver to a different node. **What do you like best about Progress Kemp LoadMaster?** The load-balancing is the biggest feature, of course. It just works. If one CAS goes down, Kemp will still deliver to the other server. It is the same with multiple mailbox servers. If one goes down then mail can still be delivered, due to the fact that Kemp is handling the communications. Updates are easy to apply and don't cause downtime as long as you have two load-balancers. The product also allows us to limit certain services on the Exchange server. Allows more control and Access Control Lists (ACLs) for internal and or external access. Instead of making changes in IIS on a server, you can have Kemp control it. **What do you dislike about Progress Kemp LoadMaster?** Obviously, there are a lot of moving parts and fields\settings on Kemp LoadMaster. Not all the settings are easily understandable. It would be helpful if there were a way to incorporate tooltips on the fields so that we don't have to dig through documentation. I don't expect the software to assist in migrations, but it would be a plus if they had more documentation on Exchange migrations with Kemp and specific changes that need to be made. However, support is very knowledgeable and assisted us. Prior to using Kemp, in order to achieve this, this meant manual failovers when performing maintenance on these application servers; for example, amending the registry of all users who were logged in at the time, amending internal DNS and/or amending the desktop shortcuts of logged in users to point them to a different application server. **What do you like best about Progress Kemp LoadMaster?** The Kemp Loadmasters are reliable, we have had no outages in the three years of using the product. The product is easy to use, it is intuitive and it is backed by the Kemp Vision product which monitors the load balancers and provides alerts when any health check issues are detected (for example, when an application server unexpectedly goes offline, the health check fails and performs an automatic failover but you are also notified of the failure in order to correct it). As well as external DNS resolution, we have implemented the Kemp LM's into our internal network for additional resiliency e.g. load balancing between Active Directory servers. **What do you dislike about Progress Kemp LoadMaster?** We have not found any issues during three years of using this product. In particular, the support desk have always been incredibly helpful and quick to respond when we have had any questions on how a feature works or best practice of setting up a new solution. In terms of additional features, we have not found anything that would enhance the product further than what we are currently able to achieve with it. It provides a dynamic DNS resolution with health checks to ensure the services we provide are resilient and highly available.
