Router installation is easy, as in most cases it can auto-discover the type of net connection on the primary WAN port. The web interface is common to most Netgear routers and is easy to use. The Netgear ProSAFE FVS336G is a VPN firewall that works well and is ideal for small businesses and remote offices. Initial configuration is relatively simple. It does take a while to setup and get installed but following the directions, this makes it an easy task. Have had relatively few issues. Well it's already quite a few years old and it took me some time to figure out that my internet wasn't slow, but that it was the Netgear unit that was reducing my bandwidth in half and pretty much costing me a little extra each and every month. This firewall has been the heart of our business for several years. It has been reliable and fast with very few issues. There have not been too many Firmware updates and the updates worked reliably and did not crash the firewall. What do I like best? Well, actually, I cannot say what I like best. We just had to stop using NETGEAR, because we kept getting hacked!!!! People were downloading movies and doing who knows what else. It went well for a few years, but I guess something happened and someone was able to get through and use our IP address and they started downloading movies and then our internet company saw what was happening and accused us! They told us that we were going to lose our service and that WE could possibly go to jail for stealing movies! They thought it was US! So, we just had to drop NETGEAR and go with something else! The NetGear ProSafe Firewall is an affordable product for what it offers in terms of security. This product met all of our basic requirements and offered wonderful security against potential attacks/threats. The installation process is easy and there is a decent amount of support on NetGear's site that can help you troubleshoot whenever needed. When I was using this product, NetGear was unable to provide support remotely with VPN solutions, but from what I've read recently, this has not changed. I don't have any other dislikes or issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Ease of setup, ease of firmware updates and a known brand. The Netgear FVS318G is what I ordered as it has 8 ports and I was able to hook up my public facing devices to it via DMZ and then plug in my additional switch for internal network connectivity. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Heavy traffic causes frequent lockups and hangs the unit. Often required hard reset/reboot to get it back up and running. External connections to ISP would drop regularly forcing a reboot to get it back up and running. Other routers with my ISP did not have this issue and I even tested by putting a small Cisco unit and a Linksys unit in to see and confirmed it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

This solution is relatively easy to set up, compared to other security solutions. With minimal experience in IT and tech support, I was able to configure the firewall settings and it was relatively integrated within our system server. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

This is great for small departments or businesses but there are other more expensive options for bigger enterprises. This solution worked great for what we needed, but sometimes we did feel our connection slow down. Although, we weren't sure if it was due to the Firewall. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

About everything! From the software they put out to the customer service! I have fought for hours with various things from them & they always affect my systems in a total negative way! The portal has a very nice interface. Easy to read. Straightforward. Allows you to set your own parameters when needed. Very simple interface which is nice. I use this to filter and control traffic and it works as intended. I would say this is good for intermediate/beginners. I like that there are options for "help" in the corners.
