What do you like best?

Good use of human time. No peer tool which supports SQL Server, Oracle,Java, Web etc. Identify bottlenecks of hardware, software, infrastructure, memory etc using good analysis window for response time and throughput. Separation of script, generator, controller and agents. Set ramp up and ramp down strategy as needed.Agent can do things like IP spoofing to make look like load is coming from diff machines. Checkpoints can be image or text. Rendezvous points instruct users to wait during test execution for other users in order to perform the tasks simultaneously. Love that! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Tool is not open source and expensive. Also Vuser scripts saved in C which is case sensitive. You need to be really cognizant about co-relations planned to be used. Protocol advisor could have been more helpful. Also make sure caching is disabled while running tests. Configuration is little tough to figure out. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Nice tool to conduct performance testing and benchmark your other tools. Although learning curve is not steep but the pricing curve is. As said need to be aware of relations while using record playback feature. Also regularly use rendezvous and think statements. Also make sure to add regular comments in code in order for maintainability. Correlation is capture output from prv step and use it as input. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Testing performance of web applications and RESTAPIs. Great support as said earlier. Fantastic ways to parameterize your inputs and see analysis of response time distribution. VuGen is UI independent and focuses on HTTP requests only. Capability to add user data points and regenerate code. Controller helps to add think time, delays etc. Most favorite part is load simulated from other machines, throttling etc Also the part where you can simulate browser like environment by adding proxies and cookies is fantastic in my opinion. Analysis engine shows response time distribution. It can also be run on public cloud infrastructures.Tightly coupled with HP-ALM and can also import scripts from other tools like Jmeter. What do you like best?

The ability to manage all the phases of performance testing and ease to maintain scripts in loadrunner and all types of applications support is available in loadrunner. The Analysis provided by loadrunner post completion of execution is the best and very much in detailed which helps resolve performance issues and bottleneck easily.

The ability to convert fiddler file into loadrunner is one of the best feature implemented in loadrunner. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

sometimes loadrunner misses few request during recording a script which might leads to the script failure. Sometimes we faced issues while analyzing the results in loadrunner which leads to complete failure of test which is a more time consuming task. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Script enhancements facility should be similar to Loadrunner in other performance testing tools. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Doing performance testing with loadrunner we solved SFDC based application. We recommended other teams too to use loadrunner for SFDC and othe cloud based applications. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Conversion to monitoring very useful with very intuitive UI.

Easy to monitor and implement tests across different machines.

Also very easy to setup new machines and add to monitoring.

Easy to configure changes to schedule or SLA to existing monitoring.

Easy to customize notifications based on location, user, transaction, or other filters, Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Support can be lacking and unresponsive not an open schedule.

In constant need of upgrades/patching.

Support for old versions is lacking and constantly pushed in different directions when the tool is not meeting the needs.

The inability to run custom code from a jar file for monitoring items not specific to a web based protocol and focused on for example oracle monitoring needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Make sure this is compatible with your apps before considering bringing on the tool. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Monitoring Issues

Global networking issues

Maintenance of remote machines in other countries

Problems with networks in other countries using performance reporting from load runner we are able to justify increased bandwidth in other countries. After implementing those changes we are able to prove the need was actually needed and improvement of the application in a specific location. Allowed easy production support and root cause analysis including error logs from the system in the email notifications. Also the ability to drill down on an alert or bad performance from specific transactions or database queries in the system narrow down areas of improvement or company focus on a certain area to improve and work with the team to resolve. versatility, support, ease of use, cloud support Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Extremely expensive, upgrades are a nightmare, complicated installation procedure. No built in monitoring solution. Everything has to be purchased and implemented separately leading to a lot of delays and additional costs. Support, though good is extremely expensive especially if you need 24 x 7 support. Administrators must be experts, else installation, upgrades and regular maintenance will be a very painful task. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Though there are several tools available in the market for load / performance testing, LoadRunner has established a niche market for itself thanks to the trust that customers have established with the sort of detailed that it has to offer. LoadRunner also is able to integrate with other HP Tools (SiteScope, ALM, Performance Center to name a few) as well as non-HP tools such as DynaTrace (albeit with a little bit of coding experience)! LoadRunner also has Cloud support with HP Helion and Amazon AWS. For people who do not want to spend a lot on LoadRunner, there is a community edition that is available for free. Users can also look at StormRunner which is similar, but not as versatile as LoadRunner is for first time use since the cost is less than a 10th of what LoadRunner is! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

By implementing HP LoadRunner and by including performance testing as part of the sdlc, we are able to find potential issues before they occur. By being able to use cloud hosted load generators, we are also able to get a feel of how external users tend to experience the product Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Performance testing is a type of non-functional testing activity that is carried out to determine an application’s response time, behavior and overall performance. LoadRunner is one of the most widely used performance-testing tools since it uses minimal hardware resources and is extremely efficient. Flexible and versatile scripting engine to extend tests with success-failure checks, thus making testing more intelligent. Ramping of many concurrent users to make the most representative testing possible. Integration of external measurements in test scenario's. Extensive vendor documentation and help system included. Extensive experience and support on various fora, blogs and many other support resources. Good availability of expertise in the form of programmers and hardcore testers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

1) Cost is the major factor that should be considered by HP because it prevents many users from using this product. Despite many advantages of Loadrunner, other open source alternate solutions like Neoload are mostly used.

2) It takes lots time in scripting, if the test cases are very complex, it can take even days to make one script. Re-usability of these complex scripts also becomes a complex job, mostly when the application build are changing frequently. The tool always demands a script modification or re-scripting, in case of changes in application build.

3) Complexity. LoadRunner is not simple to learn by installing it and "doing it". Especially when using different data sources to do cross measurements of system performance. Performance testing with a tool like this requires planning and skilled resources. Fortunately these are easily acquired these days. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

LoadRunner, when used judiciously can give you an accurate picture of end-to-end system/application performance. When used in the development cycle, all the performance bottlenecks can be easily identified and eliminated. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

LoadRunner's scripting engine is very flexible and the fact that it's able to quickly and easily simulate hundreds of concurrent users makes it the performance testing tool of choice for years running. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
