## Lexis Reviews
  ### 1. Lexis+ is a research plus

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 24, 2021

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

The Lexis suite of products is the best way to start my research. I like using Practical Guidance and legal news, including Law360, in my daily work. The attached documents in Law360 are a lifesaver in terms of time and money saved! When logged in, the drop down menu to launch other Lexis products like Intelligize and Practical Guidance reminds me what is available. I prefer using Shepard's to update my research over KeyCite. I like how Lexis integrates Lex Machina analytics into Shepard's and other research result pages.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

I don't enjoy using Matthew Bender titles separately. I like launching all Lexis materials from the Lexis menu. Even after using Lexis and Bender materials for a very long time, I am get confused about what is on Bender and what is on Lexis for treatises. Over the years, I spent too much money downloading chapters that I thought were on Bender but were on actual Lexis. I also can't understand why I can't link to a Bender title with a permalink like I can on Cheetah, Proquest or West ProView. Frustration all around! Also, we use Lexis SSO, but if users forget and query Lexis, they tell them to reset their password, which is impossible using Lexis SSO. Improvement in password management is badly needed.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I get great background using Lexis+ to start my research. For example, when researching Anti-Money laundering, I review Practical Guidance materials on the topic. Then I can link to the laws and regulations. Data privacy is another fantastic topic on Practical Guidance and even has state comparison charts! When I shepardize a case, I see citing references and can review related materials quickly, including analytics.

  ### 2. Terrible AI product

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matthew O. | Attorney/Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 05, 2024

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

I am not happy with the product at all and do not reccomend it to anyone.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

They lock you into a long term contract and the Ai is increadibly subpar. They give help with creating promptes to reach a desired outcome but even their format for prompts rarely generates the desired outcome. In addition, they have a feature to upload a document into the AI but it only allows 4 or 5 responses before you have to start over. There are far superior softwares out there for a fraction of the price., I would avoid at all costs.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It did not help me solve any problems.

  ### 3. Lexi's Advance into the future

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Casey C. | Paralegal, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 11, 2018

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

I like how it is easy to search cases. I can break it down to State, City, Year, Journal, Supreme Court Appeal, or other primary and secondary sources, etc. It has been great to intern with Lexis Advance and makes it so much easier to compare the facts of a case to other real life case law.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

How it is so expensive month to month. Currently, I am getting it for free as a law student and have used it in the workplace. When I graduate which will be soon, I will loose all access and will have to purchase some for of Lexi's Nexis becaise I have become very familiar with it!

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

Great!

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is very helpful to find various cases and being able to compare the facts of cases our law office currently deals with is very helpful. It is beneficial because you can use the search bar to look up cases as far back as the 1800s...and it will Shepardize them for you so you know if it is still good law!

  ### 4. Awesome product for Law Research!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Felicia R. | Post-Bar Law Clerk, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 05, 2022

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

Easy to navigate, easy to search based on multiple factors, user friendly, great customer support!

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

Cannot save your search factors when switching from "cases" to "statutes" or from "secondary materials" to "admin. materials," etc.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Making it to where I have all I need at a push of a button rather than having to search multiple websites or books in search for information.

  ### 5. It's good but there are now adequate options that are much more affordable

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Josh M. | Attorney, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 09, 2022

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

It's one of the most powerful legal search systems that exist. It's Lexis and Westlaw. Those are the market share. If Lexis was more affordable then I would use it. But it's not.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

Cost. Lexis has gotten used to a price model predicated on serving businesses with an unlimited budget for research. Solo practitioners starting out should look at the alternatives.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I need legal research. Lexis provides legal research. And their people search tools are incredibly powerful. There are free alternatives but they are not as comprehensive.

  ### 6. An advanced and refined Research tool which is available in the Industry.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Akshat M. | Associate, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 01, 2021

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

It has a comprehensive database of case laws and journal articles.
Lexis Nexis offers an Advanced version that has an integrated search filter for all the search work.
The timeline feature is beneficial to find relevant rulings of the case.
Citations Of article, cases are available saves time.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

Has a long way to go compete with Westlaw; features are missing, such as case layouts and rulings tags.
UI requires updates along with navigation tools.
Lexis is a costly platform.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used this software at my Law firm for Case findings, Relevant commission reports, and citation purposes.
I have used this to find a case requiring a ledger account as a medium of proof.
Legal Research is the most integral part of our work, and we use it for the same.

  ### 7. Helpful for law students

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Carol D P. | Lawyer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 19, 2022

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

In law school it was helpful for finding jurisprudence.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

It was very difficult to use the advanced search feature.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Finding old jurisprudence.

  ### 8. A VERY USEFUL SITE FOR RESEARCH WORK

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 23, 2021

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

The best thing about lexis nexis is that in internet world it provide me with various law books, legislations, case laws, articles. every thing needed to do a research work or to know a subject.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

Truely, I do not see anything in the site to dislike.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

the problem that I solve using Lexis Nexis is research paper material, it benefits me with various law books required I require for my college reading also provide legislation and all things a Law student will need to study a subject.

  ### 9. Great Legal Research Program

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kali A. | J.D. Candidate, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2020

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

I like that Lexis is user friendly. The program has everything you need to simplify your research and find applicable case law quickly. The best part of the program is the Shepardize feature, which allows you to make sure your case is still good law. It also allows you to search by headnote for other cases containing the relevant points you're looking for.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

Lexis is fairly expensive to use. I would say that it costs more than other programs that have comparable features.

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

Lexis Advance has the best support. If you're struggling to find something or need assistance with your research, they have lawyers on staff to help. I have asked for assistance finding cases and I am never disappointed. Further, if something is not working correctly, I can always contact to see if there is an issue with their system. Typically, if the site will be down for maintenance, they are really great about communicating that to their users.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Lexis Advance really allows my office to complete legal research quickly and accurately. I can save searches and come back to my research at a later date in the event I am disrupted or need/want to stop for the night. It also allows me to save cases in a folder under the matter name I'm working on or the topic of the cases so I can come back to all of the law at a later time if I have the same issue arise.

  ### 10. Lexis Advance Success

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jon T. | Judge Advocate, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2020

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

One of my favorite features is the option to have research folders. It's helpful to divide research topics and put searched cases in a convenient location. It is also nice to have the highlighting feature. I also like the ability to copy text from a case and have the citation copied over. That saves an abundant amount of time working on citations. The public record search options are also helpful for locating information that is already public. Many cities and states require formal records requests, and sometimes fees, to obtain information.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

There is quite a bit of narrowing down searches to find exactly what to look for. It isn't necessary a "google search" function, so I would not count this against Lexis Advance.

Sometimes the representatives are too pushy. They email and call an incessant amount until you request that they stop. Once you notify that you have enough use of something, they stop contacting people.

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

Take some time to research tutorials. There are a number of research proficiency certificates that are worth taking and getting better skills. It is also important to respond to the company representatives so that they understand your needs. Find a system that works for you because there are so many search options and it is easy to be inundated with results.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am solving the issue of timely research and accurate case statuses. Lexis Advance has a great program for shepardizing and making sure the cases are all up to date. One of the best benefits is seeing previous history of cases and the kind of treatment cases received in lower courts.

  ### 11. One of the best tools for legal research

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Weixin L. | Criminal Appellate Practice Student Attorney, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 21, 2020

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

The filters are efficient when you look for case laws in a certain jurisdiction or a specific field of law.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

I wish it would not automatically log out so soon.

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

One of the best legal research tools on the market.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Legal research and finding case laws to support legal arguments.

  ### 12. Less comprehensive than WestLaw, but works ok.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Devin K. | Executive Secretary, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 26, 2020

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

Well, I certainly like that I do not have to search through stacks of books for information for case cites and so forth. I like that I can search the whole body of law for words and phrases that are relevant to me; and I like that there is a fair guarantee that, so long as I come up with good search terms, I will find what I am looking for.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

I dislike the fact that Lexis's system is less intuitive than WestLaw's. I know they are competitors, but I feel like Lexis could step up its game a little. I think they are lagging a bit in some of the capabilities and features they should have and be able to accomplish at this point. Natural language search is always a bit rough, and the boolean operators sometimes bring back errors. I also do not like that I cannot apparently set the default search to something more relevant to me: to bring up statutes first, for example, because I search those more often.

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

Consider the price differential, I guess, Think about what you really want, and are sued to. WestLaw has greater access to treatises and secondary sources, but Lexis has some of its own and the price is less. It is just a matter of balancing your interests against one another.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

That said, it is obviously preferable to have a system like Lexis than it is to go without one. It is way better to have something that works, is reliable, brings up what I believe to be the full universe of possible ideas and avenues for research.

  ### 13. Falls short of Competitors

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Judiciary | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 02, 2020

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

Large amounts of caselaw and analysis available and fairly easy to find and access.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

Cost is prohibitive for small firms and is not as easy to navigate as the main competitor.

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

Cheaper alternatives contain nearly the same sources and ease of use at a much lower cost.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Utilize Lexis Advance for case research. Fairly easy to research, but provided by employer.

  ### 14. Topic index is useless because search results do not show headnotes

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 05, 2019

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

The only thing that Lexis advance does better than westlaw next is in the initial search window, when you want to choose which jurisdictions to search, Lexis lets you search right from the filter box, whereas Westlaw makes you choose "Save" and then hit search. So Lexis saves you one click of the mouse. The user interface for filtering searches is slightly easier to use in Lexis rather than Westlaw. Specifically, Lexis has a slider to restrict the dates, which is a nice feature.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

On the original Lexis, the topic index was a powerful tool that allowed you to search by topic, and then the search results would list the relevant headnotes for that topic for each case. Now, when you search by topic, the list of results just gives you the regular case overview. Without the headnote in the search results, it's impossible to tell why that particular case was included under the topic. It's impossible to tell, just from the search results list, what the case says about your topic. This new version of the topic index is useless and a waste of time. Luckily, the keycite directory on Westlaw Next has this capability, but it is crazy that Lexis Advance got rid of it.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Lexis advance works for legal research when there are particular treatises that are only on lexis and not on Westlaw.

  ### 15. Best Legal Software On the Market - HANDS DOWN

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 18, 2019

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

Lexis Advance is extremely user friendly and is aesthetically pleasing. Anytime I use Lexis Advance, I am always confident that I am getting the best search results and satisfied with the product. I have never had any issues with Lexis at all, and their customer service is fantastic!

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

Lexis Advance, like most legal softwares, is expensive. I also think that they could improve their legal news offerings. Otherwise, I am extremely happy with the product.

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

I would recommend Lexis Advance to anyone who is looking for a legal research provider or software. Their service is fantastic, and makes my life much easier. I don't think there is a better software out there. The price may be expensive, but all of the other legal research softwares are expensive as well. With Lexis, you have access to any legal documents you need. Plus, their customer service is fantastic! Do not go with any other provider. I use this one and another legal research database. This one is the best hands down.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Lexis Advance for legal research and to also find examples of legal document drafts. Additionally, Lexis Advance is helpful for looking up statutes and constitutions. I also use Lexis's software that is integrated into Microsoft Word to ensure that all of my legal citations are in correct format and also to create Tables of Authority. It really streamlines the process and makes me much more productive.

  ### 16. Easy-to-Use Research Tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 06, 2019

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

Lexis Advance has a variety of research tools all integrated into one software. I like that I can search by practice area or keyword, and that I can narrow the results by forms, notes, etc. Sometimes when drafting a new document it's helpful to have a place to start, and the Lexis forms are very helpful.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

Sometimes the search results return materials that are not relevant. Perhaps that's because Lexis does not have materials related to my topic, but it would be better if it came back with "no results" or something similar.

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

I haven't used Westlaw since law school, so I can't really comment on how Lexis compares to the competition, but it's very easy to use and provides an abundance of resources.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using Lexis Advance has greatly reduced the time I spend researching because it's so easy to use and provides a single location to find sample contracts and forms, read laws, and conduct research.

  ### 17. Lexis Advance Review

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Libraries | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 10, 2019

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

The Shepardize feature makes it extremely easy to determine if certain caselaw is still valid or has been overruled. The ability to look at secondary sources is also extremely helpful in that it makes it easy to navigate to useful cases.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

I do not like the navigation bar within cases that helps you get to the opinion vs headnotes. I find a side navigation bar like the one in Westlaw to work better.

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

Lexis is a well established legal research tool, it gives lawyers the ability to research claims and be able to predict what a court would determine.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to do quality legal research and find legal precedent to determine how cases will likely pan out

  ### 18. There's a reason they give it for free during Law School...

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Breandan C. | Legal Assistant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 20, 2019

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

It is a virtual library of information! From case-law to public records, to draft templates for essentially any obscure legal pleading conforming to a random jurisdiction, there is little that you cannot find. The searches contain AI that essentially figures out what you're researching,

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

The subjects would be organized better like Westlaw. Additionally, Westlaw has more templates.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The most game-changing and underrated feature is the ability to send complex legal research questions. They do the heavy lifting for you!

  ### 19. Wide library and powerful search features

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Richard L. | Paralegal, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 12, 2019

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

The case preview results page is excellent, and the search facility is wide ranging and relatively easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

The case/treatise coverage isn’t quite as good as the main competitor Westlaw.

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

Of the two main choices - Lexis and Westlaw, both are very close in features and usability, especially with the recent WestlawNext upgrade. That said, I rarely have cause to complain about Alexis - it is a solid product with a wide ranging library of cases and secondary sources, with a user friendly interface.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helped save time and money by being able to quickly serve up efficient and accurate search results.

  ### 20. Best legal research

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 16, 2019

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

The options and filters help find specific things quicker.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

The price does tend to get high for recent grads if the firm they work for isn’t paying.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My research is much stronger, my writing skills are better and I can find more accurate data.

  ### 21. User friendly

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 21, 2019

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

Lexis training is available and on point, user functions are intuitive.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

The server can run very slowly at times and take a long time to load the site

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

None

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Research and date and time log to verify if and when research was conducted/accessed/printed

  ### 22. Easy to use with great results

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2019

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

Easy to use with great results. User friendly.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

The service is very expensive and maybe cost prohibitive.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Makes it quick and easy to find supporting case law.

  ### 23. Lexis Advance

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 06, 2018

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

I love the layout of Lexis Advance, for one thing; all of the tools are intuitively located and relatively easy to find, in spite of the large number of research tools that Lexis offers. Lexis' homepage is very user-friendly, with multiple drop-down menus that make it easy to find what you're looking for. Their search tools always turn up the results that I need, and the Shepardize tool is a lifesaver. I also love the Lexis points system; they reward you for learning how to do research, which is incredibly effective at encouraging new students to expand their legal research skills.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

I truly can't think of anything I would change; Lexis Advance beats WestLaw and Bloomberg Law by a mile. It's the single best legal research platform out there. The other platforms I've tried are not as user-friendly and definitely have steeper learning curves than Lexis Advance.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Lexis Advance is helping me get through law school, and I don't know how I'd make it without Lexis! It takes all the guesswork out of legal research, which in itself is a pretty scary field. When I first began my legal research class, I was apprehensive; researching was never my strongest skill, and legal material seemed so dense and complicated. But Lexis separates material comprehensively by jurisdiction, topic, and practice areas, making it easy to find what I'm looking for. I'm not scared of legal research anymore!

  ### 24. Lexis is Best

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 05, 2018

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

Lexis spends a great deal of time researching how to better provide service for and how to simplify the legal research process. I love the ability to save cases and searches in certain folders-- I have different folders and sub-folders for every project I have. I also appreciate the frequent videos and quizzes updating users in how to use different tools to improve the research skills.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

There is not a lot about Lexis that I dislike.

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

Make sure to opt-in for research points. It is helpful to learn more tips and tricks about legal research, which Lexis offers videos and quizzes on in order to gain more points. Make sure to utilize the support staff as well, who are all attorneys and know a lot about legal research.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Lexis Advance for legal research, even though many others in my office tend to use Westlaw. I have access to Lexis through my university and prefer to use it because I find results much faster when conducting legal research. It is easier to see connections between circuits and level of courts because of functions like Ravel view and Shepard's.

  ### 26. Law student

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 03, 2019

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

I love Lexis compared to other legal research databases. There is always a lot of results and useful information. I also love that there are documents that can be used to draft work just by filling in the blanks.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

Sometimes I cannot make my searches narrow enough.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helping find all different types of resources to help win an argument.

  ### 27. Best Legal Software In Business

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 22, 2019

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

The ease of use and quality of the search results. I'm never disappointed when I use Lexis. I get accurate results and that too quickly. Plus, there are many other tools available to help with legal research.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

The interface of the platform is not that great. It could be improved.

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

I highly recommend this product. I have used many other legal research softwares, and this one is my pick. the product is fantastic, and customer service is phenomenal. You won't be disappointed.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Legal research and writing.

  ### 28. Linked Citations Invaluable

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Catherine C. | Law Student, Higher Education, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

The main reason I use Lexis over Westlaw is that it allows me to copy citations as hyperlinks. The ability to clink to a link and see exactly where I have cited something will prove to be more only more useful as print works are faded out.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

I dislike that you cannot change the fact that both reporters are automatically selected when copying an item. Having to constantly selected advanced copy and then deselect all but the national reporter is such a pain. More overall settings that would allow for a personalized experienced would be appreciated.

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

I recommend it for the hyperlink options.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using it to complete constitutional law research memo's this summer. I enjoy utilizing the many options available to find relevant cases and the copy cite as a hyperlink is essential to my work.

  ### 29. Great search engine with relevant results

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 01, 2018

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

I enjoy the wide variety of sources the engine pulls from to provide a good array of search results. I also enjoy the ease of use.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

I don't enjoy having to log into the account each time that I get on. It doesn't stay logged on. There have been times that I have lost results that I tried to save because the engine wasn't signed on and didn't notify me. I with that there was a tutorial to help new users learn the trade quickly.

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

I strongly recommend at least considering this software to do research and literature reviews.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Lexis Advance is a great search engine to use for people doing research and/or literature reviews as a part of their job. It allows for very specific searches on specific topics and provides results from many different places. Once you learn more about the ways to manipulate the search (i.e. searching for words within a certain proximity of each other, excluding some words, etc...), it becomes a useful tool to find needed information.

  ### 30. It’s a more affordable option but not as good as westlaw

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2019

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

The search term phrase connectors are superior to westlaw

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

Search results are not as relevant as westlaw and secondary sources aren’t as comprehensive

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

It’s a more affordable option but inferior to westlaw

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Use it when westlaw proves fruitless to cover my bases.

  ### 31. Incredible tool; highly efficient

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 29, 2018

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

The Shepardizing tool is phenomenal. I also appreciate the the timeline tool for cases. For people who appreciate visual aid, the timeline tool is particularly helpful. Their symbols annotating each case are easy to identify, and the layout allows users to easily and quickly view the relevant cases that have either cited, reversed, questioned, or otherwise made reference to the current case.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

The secondary sources are not laid out as cleanly as Westlaw. If I could change one thing, it would be visual appeal and ease of access in regards to finding secondary sources.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A variety of legal issues requiring case law research

  ### 32. Ease of use

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

Very user friendly. Easy search functionality. Shepardizing feature is better than analogues on other platforms. I like that it doesn't time-out like competitors.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

Can sometimes feel clunky. Reputation not as solid as main competitor.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Used for legal research in a law school clinic that takes criminal and civil cases for low-income clients.

  ### 33. Lacks interface! Less useful then Westlaw.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 22, 2018

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

Shepardizing. It really takes the cake. Out of the two major softwares on the market, it has that going on for it. Ease of use, general search ability of case laws, statues and other material is well updated too.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

Poor interface, really poor. Needs upgrade, and match up to Westlaw. I have used it for a couple years now, and even though our firm uses it, I still use my personal Westlaw account for most research.
Hate the part about a lot of products still being charged.

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

Good to have both search systems on a firm's site.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Research, shepardizing. Anything a law firm does.

  ### 34. Lexis and Westlaw are equally great!

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dylan P. | J.D. Candidate, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 03, 2019

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

I like how easy it is to find case law with all the filters and such.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

I dislike starting the research. I have a hard time starting off on the relevant area.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Exactly what the tool was developed for: legal research.

  ### 35. Legal Research Essential

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Morgan H. | Law Clerk, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 24, 2018

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

Search commands and connectors help me research efficiently. Activate legal passages function is very useful in narrowing my searches further.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

I have no material complaints about this product.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Efficient and effective legal research, abundance of legal research materials

  ### 36. Fantastic and Efficient

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 04, 2019

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

The research database is reliable and consistent.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

I am not too big of a fan on the database's layout.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps me research various legal issues and prepare to write legal docs.

  ### 37. Very user friendly, intuitive, and helpful software.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 03, 2019

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

My favorite feature is the shepardization feature, which allows me to search other decisions and statutes that cite the case I am looking at.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

I wish there was more detail provided in the legislative history section.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Legal research

  ### 38. Great and easy search tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 09, 2018

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

Lexis is very intuitive and super easy to use. I use it almost daily for legal research.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

My office is in Louisiana so some features are not available, like court link for district courts.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Lexis helps not just with legal research but with backgrounds, court opinions and briefs.

  ### 39. Efficient

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 13, 2018

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

I like that you can you use searchs to search through a judge's docket. For example, if I wanted to search for a Motion to Dismiss Order in a trademark infringement case by a specific judge, I can just select the judge, then type in my search terms.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

I dislike that when clicking in the "dockets" of the Litigation Profile Suite tool, you can't click on the docket entry number to open the brief. You would need to either search for that docket under the "briefs, pleadings, and motions" tab or have to search for the case on PACER.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The quickness and efficiency of Lexis Advance is the biggest benefit. Prior to using Lexis Advance, it would take a long time to try finding the case I need through either Google or Law360. I now save a lot of time since Lexis Advance shows me the search results that I need right away, rather than having to click through pages of Google/Law360 results.

  ### 40. Love Lexis for Legal Research and much more!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nancy R. E. | Associate Attorney, Law Practice, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 21, 2018

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

Lexis has great legal research features that make finding relevant case law efficient. The new Advance Smart Filter also helps narrow results to what is on point.
Their additional resources for locating information on people, incl addresses and past background, is also a useful tool for a litigator. I often use these tools when writing briefs, researching case law, litigating and preparing probate estate documents (as current addresses for potential parties or heirs may be hard to find).

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

The subscription fees are a bit higher than I would like. It seems especially pricey for new lawyers who are just starting out with their own practice.

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

Utilize their free trial option and connect with customer service before buying. Using the free trial gives you a great chance to try and compare to other legal research products. Customer Service Reps can also help you find deals that may not be online.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Efficient and effective case research means I spend less time and can get my clients better, faster results.

  ### 41. Best Legal Research Tool Out There

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 11, 2018

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

The best part is organization of the platform itself. Lexis is very clear about the steps it takes to research. "Search" then "Filter." Its competitors like Westlaw have not taken a clear approach like this.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

The only thing I dislike about Lexis is that it is not as widely used in the legal industry as its competitor Westlaw. This is not a critique on the platform itself.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am solving legal research problems with Lexis Advance. Benefits include collecting points each time you research so that you may cash in points for rewards.

  ### 42. Lexis Nexis is where I go for Legal Research

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2018

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

The platform is easy to use, and intuitive. I appreciate the customer service help as well. It also has many other features that help me ensure that my end work product or brief meets citation standards. I also like that the transactional section is drafted by lawyers who practice in the fields. The fillable forms are amazing! You can download them and use them for your work. They are jurisdiction specific which is even better! Lastly the public records search is very useful.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

I think Lexis Nexis has everything that is necessary for my legal research needs. I am very happy with it.

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

Very user friendly compared to the competitors!

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I solve complex legal issues regularly and I use Lexis Advance to research case laws, statutes, recent news articles on hot legal topics, etc.

  ### 43. I miss old Lexis

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 24, 2018

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

There is very little that I like about this product, honestly I cannot think of anything other than the advanced people search option.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

About a year or so ago, I was forced into Lexis advance. I held out and used the old Lexis until that was no longer an option. This version of Lexis is pretty much like a google search, and often a google search gets better results. For those of us who are used to using terms and connectors it's a nightmare. The data bases are also not organized in ways that are user friendly. I just want old Lexis back. I wish they would give an option for us to use that.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Legal research.

  ### 44. Decent product, needs more work

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dmitriy G. | Attorney, Law Practice, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 11, 2017

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

I like the customization features on lexisNexis. You can change up the home page buttons, and change the order that certain things are presented. It also has a new system of highlighting and giving case summaries on the search terms page that allows you to quickly look at the case without individually clicking on it.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

Often it has too much going on and appears overwhelming - i like simplicity. Also, if you highlight something from a case, it makes it hard to save unless you take extra steps. Also, it has less case law and other documents, especially for Washington, when stacked up against its main competitor Westlaw.

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

Keep using the product, it gets better over time. I think that in a few years, LexisAdvance will pass Westlaw. Hopefully you will have the price locked down at that point.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I research legal issues. Found it helpful because it has decent legislative history.

  ### 45. Easy to use and great customer service.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 22, 2018

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

My favorite is the ease of use. Since I'm still a student I get daily points when I do my research and can apply those points for cool things. This is a great incentive to use Lexis for daily research and to attend the in-person trainings when offered in the classrooms.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

So far haven't found anything to complain about.

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

Try it out and decide for yourself

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There are always problems to solve with Lexis. Endless benefits.

  ### 46. So close to perfect! Nearly all the public data you could want, easy to find, easy to use.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lisa R. | Growth Strategy Consultant, Staffing and Recruiting, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 27, 2017

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

This product is amazing - an oldie but a goodie. I love the easy search functions and the ability to continue to iterate on a single search until you find the information you're looking for. It's a wonderful, intuitive tool to inform research.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

They just launched a "new and improved" user experience and I don't love it. I'm sure I will change my mind as I acclimate to the change. But, for now, I miss the old-school familiarity of the previous UX design.

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

This is the basis of my prospect discovery and evaluation work; I highly recommend this tool for prospect research and evaluation.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Lexis Nexis Public records are central to my work in prospect research; I used it to confirm contact information as well as inform wealth assessments. I can't imagine doing my job without this info!

  ### 47. Great for legal research

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 23, 2018

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

Great ways to narrow legal research by topic keywords and areas of law. Can search by region and court system. Perfect for following legal keys to get to what you need quickly.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

Sometimes it has limited content for my jurisdiction and doesn’t always have the local case books I want. Mostly covers all the stuff I really need, however...

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

Great for legal research but can be pricey for small practices or solo practices.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Legal research and case analysis

  ### 48. Excellent Resource

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kristina B. | Social Worker, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2018

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

I love the simplicity of Lexis for case research.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

If you do not know how to properly type search terms, it can be difficult to weed through cases to find what you need.

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

Lexis works great if you understand proper search terms and legal verbiage to get the desired case law results.

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are able to find case law that relates to our current cases within the law firm.

  ### 49. Personal Favorite Legal Research Database

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 10, 2018

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

The homepage features a clean layout that you can dive deep into depending on topic, jurisdiction, or type of document you’re seeking - or a combination of all of them. Inside the search tool you can drill down further but the homepage is a great launching pad. I like the history and folder sections that highlight my search history and personalized folders that I use to organize research. Great when you’re managing both work and school under one login. The topic summaries are great as well to give a big picture; it’s helpful for students just starting out

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

Wish the search narrowing tools were closer to the homepage or accessible from the main frame. It’d also be helpful if the practice advisor information was more integrated into the remainder of the material. Like when reading a criminal complaint from a case the corresponding response and complaint forms from practice advisor could pop up on the side

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Reduced time researching especially as you get comfortable searching with advanced search assistors

  ### 50. Lexis Advance Review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 18, 2018

**What do you like best about Lexis?**

The organization and accessibility of Lexis Advance is what I like best. It helps me to navigate cases easily and work efficiently.

**What do you dislike about Lexis?**

There is not much I dislike, but sometimes it is difficult to navigate for certain sources.

**Recommendations to others considering Lexis:**

Best legal research resource

**What problems is Lexis solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have realized that the organized layout of Lexis is essential to working efficiently. I am finding relevant cases and applying quickly and applying them to memos.
