## Kong Insomnia Reviews
  ### 1. Streamlines API Testing with Room for AI Enhancements

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aakash S. | Sr. Technical Architect, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Kong Insomnia?**

I like that Kong Insomnia is easy to install and get started with. Being a part of the Kong family of products, it's particularly suitable when working on the Kong API Gateway, which makes many features easily available, like MCP and connectivity.

**What do you dislike about Kong Insomnia?**

Right now, it does not have any AI capabilities. API capabilities are there, but if you want to have a natural language conversation interface for your API testing, similar to Postman, those features are not there in Kong Insomnia.

**What problems is Kong Insomnia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Kong Insomnia mainly for testing and sending HTTP requests effortlessly. It aids in API development and debugging, with a user-friendly interface.

  ### 2. Insomnia: Open Source, Secure, and Flawlessly Functional

**What do you like best about Kong Insomnia?**

Insomnia is great for multiple reasons. Most of them are open source, security and flawless functionality.

**What do you dislike about Kong Insomnia?**

**What do you like best about Kong Insomnia?**

I like the ease of use and collaboration in Kong Insomnia. I find it very agile and it has shortcuts that make it efficient for testing internal APIs or when I'm doing an integration.

**What do you dislike about Kong Insomnia?**

The price is a bit high for what they offer, which is just sharing; there are no open-source options.

**What problems is Kong Insomnia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Kong Insomnia to test internal APIs, it is efficient and easy to use, with shortcuts that speed up the work.

**What do you like best about Kong Insomnia?**

Simple to use for the Fresher and learn about Rest APIs
Some times Postman is confusing while using for Pre Test and Tests No extra steps or confusion.

**What do you dislike about Kong Insomnia?**

We cannot create Automation suite or write tests like we can do it on Postman.
Websocket support is not available.
Mocking is also not allowed

**What problems is Kong Insomnia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I manual testing the API using Kong.
Unlike Postman, I don't have to register the my self to use the functionalities.
All the API Json suites created in the Postman can be imported in Insomainia

**What do you dislike about Kong Insomnia?**

To unlock some features, like team collaboration, you need to have a paid plan.

**What problems is Kong Insomnia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is possible to automate certain repetitive tasks, like get aouth in a site and then do more calls with the provided authtoken. This is very useful when trying to inegrate with a third party AIP.
I can share with my coworkers the API calls in order to test or develop.

  ### 9. A Strong Tool with Some Room for Development

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Zin M. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about Kong Insomnia?**

I think it very easy to use like for create and save workspace , import and export requests and to debug requests. And Insomnia supported a wide range of features, including REST, GraphQL, and SOAP requests, which made it a versatile tool that I could use for a variety of projects.

**What do you dislike about Kong Insomnia?**

I think the documentation is not as comprehensive as I would like so that is too difficult to find information I need. And the application's performance can be slow when i working with l requests.

**What problems is Kong Insomnia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I worked with Insomnia for sometimes . It help me to reduce waste of time on APIs so my job has become considerably simpler and more effective as a result. The best thing is Insomnia is support for debug requests.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alberto G. | Software Engineer, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 11, 2023

**What do you like best about Kong Insomnia?**

What I most like about Insomnia is its user interface. You don't feel burdened by hundreds of options or buttons. Most things are easy to find, and the distribution of Request's List, Request Body, and Response Body are lovely and understandable, especially on small screens.

**What do you dislike about Kong Insomnia?**

What I dislike about Insomnia is that it doesn't have a free tier and doesn't support as much automation as Postman. Apart from that, it is an excellent REST client.

**What problems is Kong Insomnia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used it for about five years and still love it. I used it to test and debug APIs, to group my resources, and export them so I could import them later. I used it to share the collections with other programmers, but that company stopped paying for it because not many people used it.

  ### 11. Good for delevopers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andres H. | Development Team Lead, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about Kong Insomnia?**

It is lightweight, and the user interface is very clean, and not as crowded as user interfaces in other API clients. I have liked it since I watched it for the first time.

**What do you dislike about Kong Insomnia?**

It would be cool if it has automatic API testing or a better Documentation module. The current Docs tab is just a Description field. It would be cool if it were similar to Postman or Readme.io. In the company where I am working, this was the problem of why the company decided not to continue with Insomnia. It was nice to share collections, but we needed documentation.

**What problems is Kong Insomnia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smooth API manual testing. I use it to confirm that the APIs that I code are working as expected. I check the response, I can use the nice filter located in the down-right side of the screen to look for the keys that I need in the response.

  ### 13. Great for API testing and developing policies

The best thing about Insomnia is it's user friendly interface. It's not complex set of things and new users also can easily understand. I can have multiple group of sub projects which helps me in microservices environment.

**What do you dislike about Kong Insomnia?**

There is nothing much to dislike about Insomnia. But in the market there very good competetion from other applications like postman.

**What problems is Kong Insomnia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When working in microservices we need to develop policies for the gateway servers. The Insomnia supports a wide variety of programming languages and the UI is also very good. This saves me lot of time unilike other applications.
