Being a Manual Quality Analyst, I started trying the Katalon to automate the UI testing in my project. After doing the set-up, I found it super easy to create the test scripts and then execute them in future after each release for quick regression. Using the Katalon, I was able to save a lot of time for the team. Moreover, it can be easily integrated to many tools like Jira, ADO so that you can view the Regression report in the desired application.

The only thing that consumed little bit of time while creating the new scripts was to find the xpath. Apart from that, everyhting was working fine.

We don't have the Automation framework in our project. So, we need something that can quickly automate testing with minimum effort.

Katalon's seamless integration with CI/CD

1. The clicks on the file explorer don't work sometimes e.g. you click somewhere & the item clicked on moves away at that instant.

2. The method suggestions don't work all the time.

3. There should be a shortcut for Ctrl + Tab to move between tabs

Katalon solved the problem of painstakingly configuring CI/CD, running profiles, having to code separately for data driven testing.

Katalon has a very small learning curve which allows manual testers to do automation testing. Being a manager, it is always difficult to manage Automation and Manual testers separately. Katalon allows testers to become cross-functional and work as both functional and automation testers simultaneously. Katalon supports UI, API, and Mobile testing under the same roof, which reduces the hassle of handling different tools for different testing times. CI/CD is another feature (paid version) which helps to integrate your tests with various cloud hosting providers in the market. Also, it has very good community support for the free version and customer support for the paid version.

The downside of Katalon is that you have to pay for a license if you need to do CI/CD integration, Visual testing, and Unlimited Analytical results on TestOps (plugin to show execution results).

Katalon allows me to automate all the CRM flows of the company where I work, allowing me to carry out long and complicated validations with a simple click.

1. I had a problem regarding compatibility of Safari and other browsers in which Katalon helped a lot.

The best thing I like about Katalon is to have a very easy way of capturing the object repository and update the object paths without deleting or adding new objects. Maintaining regression test cases was another headache in automation testing, but Katalon makes it easy. Customer support is also very good, and whenever I post something in the community, I get the answers in a short time.

The thing I dislike about Katalon is not having any option to auto-update the web driver plugins. And if there is an issue in plugin update, manually updating the web driver and placing it in the directory is also not good. Another thing is, there is no option to bypass the Multi-Factor Authentication in Katalon.

Whenever my developers make any change to the product, it is hard for me to manually check all the existing features to make sure they are working fine. Katalon helped me to automate the regression test cases, and whenever there is an update for the product, I just run the test cases and see the results. But the CI/CD integration is too expensive, which could be useful for me.

What I like most about Katalon Studio is that it is a very complete and versatile tool. It allows you to carry out various types of testing, it allows you to upload the results of the execution of a Test Suite to the cloud, specifically on the Katalon TestOps platform, where you can easily see how the execution of each Test Case turned out. It even has CI/CD!

What I dislike about Katalon is that I cannot run the Test Suites in CLI format if because I use the free version without a KRE license, therefore I cannot perform Continuous Integration, which is one of the most frequently performed activities today for agile and large-scale projects. If it had this, it would be the ideal tool without a doubt.

As I mentioned before, the advantage that Katalon has is that it allows you to perform Web testing and Mobile testing in the same Test Case, which for the purposes of the work I do is an optimal solution.

It's capability in leveraging Artificial Intelligence.

1. Unable to handle large loads.

2. UI can be enhanced.

We are using Katalon for our Automation framework.

Katalon tool is really easy for testers who come from a non-technical background. It's an easy way to build test scripts in many forms like BDD-driven test case framework, TDD test-driven framework. Also, we have many platforms like cross-browser and cross-platform testing capabilities. AI use in the tool seems like the new era to me in automation testing tools.

I too wish it supported more languages like Java, JavaScript, Python as of now we are using only Groovy scripting which sometimes seems hard to use.

Katalon platform is easier compared to other code-based automations like Cypress, Playwright. It helped us automatically update locators in it and also integrate with BrowserStack.

Ready made framework, ready to use quickly on any new web application, page objects, reports, test data and webdriver related maintenance is very easy and quick saves lot of time.

Parallel execution is not supported as of now, expecting in further releases.
