Ipstack provides a good, robust and easy to use API to get location data of a user based on the ip address. It was simple to implement into our application and provides valuable data for our analytics and general business logic requirements. Maybe a minor feature, but caching needs to be implemented on our side. It would be great if look-ups of the same IP would be cached automatically at a certain tier, but other than that it's a good reliable tool. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Every time your app requests location data, it depends on ipstack’s uptime and speed. And also ipstack itself is GDPR compliant, but it doesn’t provide an easy way for you (as a user) to handle user consent or anonymization, which means you must handle that separately. I like best about ipstack its accuracy, speed, and reliability in providing real-time geolocation data. I find it problematic that the service from ipstack automatically continues and is billed when the limit is reached, without me having to actively agree beforehand. This could lead to unwanted additional costs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

One thing I really like about ipstack recently is how easy it is to integrate and how fast the API responds—even when handling multiple requests. They've also improved their documentation a lot; it's clearer now, with better examples that make it simple to get started. I also noticed they now provide more detailed data for some locations, like better accuracy in city-level geolocation and updated currency/timezone info. One thing that could be improved is the accuracy for mobile IP addresses—it can be a bit off sometimes, especially when users are on 4G/5G networks. Also, the free plan is great for testing, but it’s quite limited in terms of request volume and some of the data fields you get. It would be nice to have a bit more flexibility or maybe some middle-ground pricing for smaller projects or startups. I needed it at the time for a project where we needed to identify user IP data from an application for auditing purposes, and it was really the one that best suited our needs and was the easiest to implement.

At a basic level we gather geo-location information from the IPs we collect through our service. IPStack can go the extra mile and provide even more information like security information (is it a crawler, proxy, or what is threat level). All very useful. Their support has been excellent as well!
