**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

Nothing - there is not a single upside to using StreamSets. It's expensive, illogical, and rarely works as intended.

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

While there are so many things to dislike about StreamSets, it's randomness and instability are at the top of the list. The only way my team has made StreamSets functional is to rely on it for as little as possible.

  ### 24. Engineering Manager

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dhanasekaran N. | Senior Vice President | Senior Engineering Manager lCapability |Data engineering , Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 04, 2023

Abstraction of complexity of spark or ETL

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

Scaling capabilities not great
Improve more connectors like DB2, Terradata

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ETL

  ### 25. StreamSets used to be a great open source tool, but has lost it’s niche

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jered L. | Data Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 23, 2020

**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

The simplicity of creating data pipelines visually, with no clunky installation and no databases / metadata to manage, like with other ETL tools. All pipeline info is stored on the file system itself.

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

They have closed source their software and locked it behind a SaaS model. This is a relatively recent change which caused lots of headaches

**Recommendations to others considering IBM StreamSets:**

There is no reason not to try the data collector.. It is free to download the Tarbell and install. Try it using docker on your local machine, then deploy it in a development environment for testing.

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are regularly using StreamSets to pull 220 million records daily from Salesforce, eliminating the need to write complicated python code. We are also using this tool for Oracle CDC, which has worked well at scale (20 million transactions / day). I have also used this tool to consume from over 5 different JDBC based sources, with great performance and simple implementation.

The best benefit we have realized is the fact that you can dockerize the SDC service, deploy it in ECS or any container orchestration service, and run pipelines that scale horizontally, instead of having static servers hosting the service. If you can implement this properly, it makes writing ingestion pipelines EXTREMELY simple. I can add a new data source to our ETL jobs within a day, instead of weeks by doing this. And it scales to handle thousands of tables!

  ### 26. Best Data Pipeline Building Platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mustafa K. | Data Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 30, 2022

**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

Stream Set is one of the leading Data Pipeline creating platforms and it is used by many tech giants also. Also, it is partnered with AWS, Snowflake, Google Cloud, and Azure. Which is very help full for Devops, Dataops and Data engineers. because it provides a comprehensive solution on one platform.

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

I think it didn't have any downfall because the platform is so versatile. The only thing they can improve is by adding more regional servers around the world so that latency will reduce.

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I want to connect my Apache Kafka and Apache Nifi with data lake so I found this Platform and it really helped me, because of this amazing platform my work got complete in few click only.

  ### 27. Review of Working in StreamSets platform

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tribhuban G. | Project Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 16, 2022

**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

The intuitive canvas for designing all the Streamsets pipelines coupled with the ease of configuration of environment values in Streamsets are very useful for a Data Architect.

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

the datacollector has to be designed properly. Few of the components require external jars . For example a simple DB configuration like MySQLDB requires the jar for mysql connector to be installed in the Datacollector in order to use tht Datacollector for data reading purposes.

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Problems related to Data Analytics and real-time predictions for various real-life business use cases. This has helped in generating new business ideas and predictions of solutions.

  ### 28. Very Powerful and Easy Data Engineering platform. Capable to handle multiple platform and huge data.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** nitin s. | Technical Lead, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 30, 2022

**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

StreamSets is very light. Since it is containerized app, it is easy to use with Docker if you are an individual developer. For organizations they can use Kubernetes.
They have a very easy and user-friendly user interface. It takes only a few days for new developers to start and deploy their first pipelines.
StreamSets provides easy and powerful stages(kind of connectors) to integrate StreamSets with different platforms such as Kafka, SalesForce, Oracle DB, Rest API, HTTPS connection, Data lakes and many more.
StreamSets uses regex expression for data transformation related operation which is really easy.
Monitoring StreamSets pipelines are very easy, you can register your Data collector to control hub using provisioning agents. After registering you can deploy pipelines to SCH and create jobs. All of this can be done using their Python SDK which can easily be integrated with ADO release pipelines.
After creating/deploying pipelines users can use SCH subscription to create alerts if pipelines/jobs changes their status.
For individual alerts pipeline have built-in capability to do so.
After their version 4.0.1 , sdc are merged with their data ops platform. This allows individual developers to have the feel of a Control Hub. It also remove platform dependancy.
They have very excellent security. Pipeline can be integrated with Azure Keyvaults which eliminates the needs of sharing credentials with Developers. Same goes for parametrs and runtime parameter. Developers can easily replace any value in pipeline with ADO library variables.
If you are an Organization they provide very extensive support, work instantly on any bug if found by an organization. They also have customer success team which will do anything to make sure your organisation's experience with StreamSets is seamless.

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

A few of the stages are a bit unstable. Like Oracle CDC client. They work fine but in some corner case scenario, it becomes a bit tricky. Logging mechanism is excellent and extensive but it could be simpler.

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am in an organization where we are working on sharing Data between mutiple application running on different platoform. So we needed a tool/platform with can easily integrate with variety of technology and can adopt with this everchanging era.
StreamSets allowed us to share real time data between platfoms which also removed dependancy from heavier ETL tools like SSIS, Abinitio.
Since it is easier which allows our talent developement team enable our developers to use StreamSets.

  ### 29. StreamSets is easy to use and maintain, has transparent appearance.

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2022

**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

Very easy to follow where data goes, catch up on nodes and prepare a preview.

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

Sometimes is not clear from the first view how to set up nodes for a new person. A site with an explanation of how each node works would be very helpful.

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Changing data format without using programming language.

  ### 30. Pleasantly surprised by its capabilities.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 19, 2022

**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

The UI canvas and choosing the different stages like processors and origin and destinations.

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

The lineage/provenance feature needs work. I hate to compare it with Apache Nifi but this is one feature that Nifi trumps Stream Sets on.

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have a lot of different formats of data and transforming it using hand-coded ETL tools or other systems is cumbersome and frustrating. Stream sets does things elegantly and in a manner that is least time-consuming.

this training provided is very basic and could be more specific.

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

data engineering

  ### 34. Managing pipeline over StreamSets on K8S environment

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bishnu R. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 24, 2020

**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

I did not find any difficulties to integrate streamSet Control Hub with Kubernetes by help of StreamSet Controller Agent.

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

Some time updated docker image of StreamSet agent comes with vulnerabilities which the should take are before release.

**Recommendations to others considering IBM StreamSets:**

Yes, i will always recommend the SteamSet to others.

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am managing StreamSet control agent in k8s environment and still did not experienced any issue.

  ### 35. Very good data operation platform, Hassle-free filtration of data and numerous options for the same

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Meghana V. | Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 24, 2021

**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

Right from the ingestion, filtering, debugging by looking into preview or snapshots

Decent data processing speed, lightweight data collector to configure pipeline, processing the data, preview the data, monitor the pipelines.
Friendly user interface for deleting or adding the connection ,stop, start the pipeline

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

Rate of consumption of real time data can be improved to avoid the lag/dataloss

Editing the single component should be more independent

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For the consumption of real time rawdata from our site and filtering, tagging the data to get the number of transactions and this helped us to monitor the system as well as to build our Workloadmodel.

Anomaly detection based on the traffic pattern.

Storing of raw data increases cost, using streamset we filtered out unnecessary data and used only required data for analysis.

  ### 36. Streamsets review

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** sai s. | sr. software engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 21, 2021

**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

It was very useful when we have used it for loading our tables into hive databases and easy to configure as most of it was drag and drop and minimal customisation required when using streamsets I found it much easier compared to NIFI

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

It been a while that I had actually worked with streamiest but when I used to work on the platform we used to face some issues while mapping the components in the data flow we used to face some performance issues for huge datasets

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

we used streamsets for building the data lake in our insurance company where we would be getting files at multiple times of the day and the pipes used to trigger when ever the files used to arrive at the landing zone. we used to perform various transformations and data quality checks with in streamsets and used to load the data in hive tables in onpremises

  ### 37. New attractive tool, but few under the hood improvements needs to be done.

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sai Charan K. | Big Data Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 19, 2021

**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

GUI is the best and much simpler. It is self explanatory for any range of experience guy to understand.
You need not write complex programming for any kind of implementation. It is as simple as dragging and configuring something you want to implement.
Literally you can connect to any kind of system as a source and any kind of system as a destination.
Scheduling was much more easier when it comes to streamsets, unlike other systems and tools we had, a wide variety of scheduling options here.
Wish there was an option to increase the rate of ingestion.
Having streamsets transfomers is an additional advantage while we are developing the applications.
It is very easy to save and export the jobs or the pipelines. Not just this, it also very easy to share the pipelines/jobs.
Last but not the least, we have topologies where you can view the status of all the pipelines which you have developed and monitor. This can used like a collective system where all the status of the project's jobs can be viewed.

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

Debugging an issue will take a lot of time. Logs were not that clear while we were debugging.
You can only select one single source for a pipeline. There are few applications where you need to apply the same logic for multiple sources. For this use case you need to create multiple pipelines and add coordination between them.

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Problems is to trace out the issue while debugging and the benefits is its simplicity to use.

  ### 38. Streamsets: Data Ingestion Master

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mateus L. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 28, 2020

**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

The possibility of getting data from almost any place, transforming it, and sending it at any other place.
Also the API is very useful as you can launch jobs from airflow, for example. Ease of use, parameters that help you configuring things like Mongo, Kafka, etc. The many transformational steps that you can add to a pipeline.
The parameters that can be sent through the API with airflow so you can customize lots of things and have lots of automation.
User friendly, fast, reliable, capability of handling errors with GCS or Kafka, for exmple.

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

The open source version don't have all of the features that the enterprise version offers (control hub). It's not actually something I dislike but you gotta know how to manage a linux server to get the best ouf of it with the lower possible cost. It's not hard though.

**Recommendations to others considering IBM StreamSets:**

Try it, you can use docker to try it in your computer in an easy way.

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Data Ingestion and Processing, getting data from one place (json or relational), transforming it, and loading and ingesting it somewhere else (bigquery, postgres)

  ### 39. Experience in using Streamsets in Data Ingestion PipeLine

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Srigiri K. | Associate Director/Enterprise Solution Architect - BigData & AA, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 30, 2020

**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

Ease of usage including easy to install and configure. Nice GUI interface which is web based for development and admin work. Connectors availability for different systems.

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

Missing auto performance and scalability option. No drifting support. Incase of any issues related to performance and scalability, it is next to impossible to understand what caused the issues and what will be the fix. Also, not useful for ETL operations which makes us to depend upon other tools in E2E integration needs.

**Recommendations to others considering IBM StreamSets:**

There few things which StreamSets still lacks and need those to have one stop solution for Data Ingestion.

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have used Streamset in our Data Ingestion pipeline for extracting the data sets from various heterogenous source systems like SalesForce, Oracle databases etc. Is very good in extracting the data sets for CRM systems like Salesforce etc but was not able to use it as end to end integration tool as it lacks certain functionalities.

  ### 40. Friendly and powerful ETL framework, still evolving

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marco M. | Big Data Consultant, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 21, 2020

**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

Intuitive, very useful plugins, easy to deploy/maintain. It's really awesome how can you build pipelines for microservices, streaming and batch purposes in a single environment.
Very straightforward to be installed and ready to use, even for production (at least for the essential parts, then obviously should be reviewed with a security team)

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

The bugs you may find are solved with workarounds, you have to wait a bit for a stable solution. Some missing plugins (but they will be added soon, if not already).
Many updates during the year, if you don't have a proper set up to move from test/pre-production to production, you may have some issue to face every time

**Recommendations to others considering IBM StreamSets:**

Create always a box that can be easily updated with the latest release: a lot of issues might be solved in every minor. Moreover, it can be easily updated using the logic of a git repo
Try to use always the Streamsets logic as much as possible and avoid to have big groovy/Jython block, you will benefit from it
Prepare a CI if possible to keep Stremasets always up-to-date
Share any debug or solution you may have found in the community, a lot of people may look for it

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managing the entire preprocessing during ingestion. It's very handy, easy to add new pipelines for new data sources or maintain the already present ones

  ### 41. Data Migration cross RDBMS and NO-SQL become very easy.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 20, 2021

**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

I found it very flexible and GUI-based configuration makes it very user-friendly.

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

So good so far, didn't find anything wrong about streamsets as of now.

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Data Migration from RDBMS to RDBMS and RDBMS to NO-SQL.
By using StreamSets I am able to migrate data without any downtime and without any help from DBA. in the traditional way we were doing import and export for RDBMS to RDBMS which is not now needed. from RDBMS to NO-SQL I was using custom scripts to export data in CSV from Oracle and import it in Cassandra but now I have created a pipeline and all work is sorted now.

  ### 42. Easy to setup fast data flow with a lot of features and flexibility.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Denis Y. | Senior Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 07, 2020

**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

Convenient access to Hadoop FS, access to web API and parsing a JSON response. You can easily combine a lot of different technologies in one flow (Hadoop, python, Java, web API).
I have started to use it while learning Big Data for learning purposes but now we use it in our company on an everyday basis.

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

Everything beyond expectations. Only one limitation - how to convince people to use it more and it is not easy to find enough professionals on the market.

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Recalculating monthly accounting reports in different currencies

  ### 43. Easy to use and very nice interface

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Banking | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 27, 2020

**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

The tool had a lot of options to integrate with different protocols, language and origin. We used this tool to integrate it with Kafka/Aws, send emails and develop different types of data feed. The user interface was quite nice and easy to use. Be it a simple task or a complex task, we were always able to find a processor or executor to achieve our goal.

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

Since the tool was new, there was a limited support on the internet. Ask streamsets page is helpful but I expected a developed ecosystem. Sometimes we faced issue with using known libraries like moment.js. It's a pain to maintain these libraries in your server. We had to use different language to implement certain module because Javascript library for that task was not supported. So our pipelines looked like a bunch of lot of processors each having a different language/framework.

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were trying to develop data feed for different downstreams originated from wide variety of sources. I really liked how Streamsets control hub had the option to schedule your pipelines. The streamsets control hub had internal version control which was an additional benefit.

  ### 44. User friendly interface

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 18, 2021

**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

Very easy to use and understand at very first time itself

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

Nothing much but very few minimal things like code suggestions when using scripting languages like groovy, jython and javascript

**Recommendations to others considering IBM StreamSets:**

I suggest it as one of the best ETL/ELT tool for data ingestion

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mostly I worked on data movement from different sources to different destinations involving many transformations. Worked on both batch processing and live streaming modes. Worked on triggering events for notifications based on certain conditions.

  ### 45. Great product with a potential to become the best for Big Data

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ayushman D. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 29, 2020

**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

The sheer number of connections (origins, destinations, processors, etc) and additional things like webhook/notifications are among the best features offered by streamsets data collector.

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

Too many frequent errors in some cases (like S3 destination) which are not internally retried seamlessly and ends up failing the pipeline. Due to this, a lot of manual intervention is required on a day to day basis

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Big data ETL is our primary problem to solve
Benefits - reasonable fast transfer, vast number of sources destination, prompt support etc

  ### 46. It was powerful but lots of jobs failure

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Harry Kim B. | Operations Country Lead, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 27, 2020

**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

This tool can connect from the ftp or mft server to our MSSQ

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

The jobs designed to our project are usually failing which led our team a lot of monitoring works and manual processing of data.

**Recommendations to others considering IBM StreamSets:**

Maybe, if we can add more real-time support that can cater all time-zones and making the tool more user-friendly.

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's about a scheduled extracting and storing of data from one server to another. This is very beneficial to our live dashboards which need a real tome update for our clients.

  ### 47. Streamsets is an amazing tool for data movement across environments seemlessly

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sai Paramahamsa P. | Senior Business Intelligence Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 21, 2020

**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

Developer friendly user interface and resonable speed of data transfer across various databases

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

Debugging is a pain in streamsets because of the exhaustive java logs

**Recommendations to others considering IBM StreamSets:**

The support team of Streamsets is very committed and will always help tweak the software for any specific but highly used components that are missing in the current version. So take advantage and get the best version of this tool for your enterprise needs.

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use streamsets for both batch and near real time data ingestion and manipulation into our enterprise data warehouse

  ### 48. Good Streaming application with flexibility of use and set up

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chandrashekhar J. | Associate Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 29, 2020

**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

Easy setup , flexible product . Can work with variety of databases.

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

Connection issues , at times data is captured during failure

**Recommendations to others considering IBM StreamSets:**

Streamsets is highly customizable streaming application . However before selecting the application user needs to analyze data transfer requirement and mode of transfer (Batch or streaming). The data conversion nodes are good , but needs to be configured in proper way. Heavy processing or file conversion may slow down the process. Need to have enough memory to support requirement

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using the toll as ETL job on regular basis

  ### 49. Streamsets review

**What do you like best about IBM StreamSets?**

Debugging, ease of use.Streamsts was a useful tool for ETL processes. The difference from other tools it has is that it has lot of transformations.

**What do you dislike about IBM StreamSets?**

Lots of transformations,real time processing.

**What problems is IBM StreamSets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Banking problems.Benifits are debugging standards can check at each stage the data passed.

  ### 50. Best Work flow for Tracking and processing application with Automation skill
