It is a powerful OLAP system. Worked on all 3 Netezza family systems, and each appliance comes with more power to new generation systems. Business queries performance is far better on Mako appliance. Netezza system is user-friendly, and one can learn this technology yourself by referring to IBM online guides. There are many areas in Netezza which you can look into to optimize the system like Table redesign, Implementing CBT, queries join conditions, Express/Full statistics and groom and many more. IBM has provided inbuilt contrib utilities to make DBA work easy and also has good customer support. If one has little idea about shell scripting then can write many scripts to optimize DBA work. Also Netezza appliance has a feature of setting up events which will send notification on any hardware component failure for timely replacement. However, the best thing about Netezza is its ability to chew up monster queries that would kill other RDBMS platform and spit out results quickly to my user base. Also, the cross-pollination of the Netezza Engineers with the IBM Engineers has benefited the platform a great deal in some key areas. **What do you dislike about IBM Netezza Performance Server?** It is an IBM product, which means you get to deal with IBM and we know that can be a love/hate relationship. I worked with Netezza when it was still Netezza so I have just had to get used to the "classic IBM upsell". We had millions of rows in our database and I had to write some user defined functions custom to our business case. We were amazed by the throughput rate of Netezza. We came from a legacy Oracle database that would take 4+ hours to run a large data aggregations for our call center histories, which meant we had to create extracts to load into separate systems for analysis. With Netezza, the same data snapshots take seconds to run, meaning we can tweak the data logic on the fly and run our analysis in the database system, greatly improving usability of the data and speed to decisions. Our use case may be simple compared to some other companies, but this was a huge improvement for us. **What do you dislike about IBM Netezza Performance Server?** Getting support (ODBC drivers, additional libraries) is difficult with the source being tightly controlled.
