## Handbrake Reviews
  ### 1. A Perfect Encoder

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stephen F. | Graphic Design Intern, Marketing and Advertising, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 04, 2018

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Handbrake is an extremely easy-to-use encoder. The interface is simple and straightforward, allowing you to encode in multiple formats in just a few clicks. Also, for free software, the developers are providing constant updates and support.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

There's honestly nothing that I dislike about it. The software is simple and effective. Best of all, it's free, so how can you go wrong?

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

If you're looking for a top of the line file encoder, give Handbrake a try. It's a free solution to any of your encoding problems. It's simple, easy to use, straightforward, and always gets the job done.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When exporting raw video, the files can be extremely large. When having to upload or send to clients, it can be tough. With Handbrake, you can decrease your file size through encoding with Handbrake. Sending large video formats has never been easier. And, it's free.

  ### 2. Handbrake to convert your video files

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Francesco M. | Capo team, Marketing and Advertising, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 11, 2017

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

One of the biggest thing about Handbrake is that the software is completely free and open source. You have a complete interface, with many options that give the user advanced controls over the converting procession, so the needs can be easily reached. The software is also good for working on Blu Ray format and in the huge list of presets there is a good part dedicated to iOS and Android devices.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

Even if it offers you tons of controls and tools for your video, Handbrake can be confusing and challenging for a novice. Unfortunely the software can't handle protections on DVD or BluRay... So you can't work with them.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

With Hanbrake you can have complete control over your videos. Can be a little challenging at the beginning to understand how to use, but I think that thanks to its complete tools still remain the best software out there.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Handbrake to keep my archive light, archiving in a more tiny format all the videos that I've to put aside in the archive. Sometimes it can be slow to work on, but I find that this is the best software out there.

  ### 3. Fantastic open-source solution for video conversion

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matthew Z. | Owner / Designer, Arts and Crafts, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 06, 2017

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Open-source based! This has a great combination of cost (free) and sharing community. Feature packed and many presets that allow for many solutions. This is great software for converting and / or down sizing video clips. While every things touts high-def today, you don't necessarily need HD when uploading to a website or forwarding to a customer.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

Being open-source - you are on your own for support. There isn't a tech department waiting for your phone call. If you have a problem or question, you need to do your own research online. This works for those who are computer literate, but less experienced users might need help.

design is a little antiquated - looks a little last gen or so. But this is splitting hairs.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

Give yourself time to learn, find a good online wiki, in person teacher, or other source of direction.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Resizing videos for customer review and posting online. It saves alot of frustration to down size a 1+GB HD video that could easily take hours over a mobile connection or take up alot of web space to something more manageable.

  ### 4. HandBrake is a good option for video conversion, but too confusing

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rita M. | Project Manager, Marketing and Advertising, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 06, 2017

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

HandBrake is a good option for video conversion. The software provides us a great queuing system for batch conversions, that can be useful when working with multiple files for a project. HandBrake also provides a series of devices and platform presets. Finally HandBrake it's free.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

HandBrake is a good option for video conversion, but it's too confusing. Find the right setting can be a long process of trial and error. And this will be time consuming since it take a while to convert files. The HandBrake interface is responsible for this, with so many options and boxes can scary the most determined user.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

Even if the HandBrake can appear intimidating in the first instance, test it and learn to use the functions, maybe use some internet tutorial about the platform.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Even if HandBrake appears difficult at the beginning after that you find the right path to follow in the conversion it remains a good choice. I'm still using it in my work to convert my video project for mobile platform. In this way I can easily share them with clients and members of the team.

  ### 5. Powerful video converter, best of all... it's free!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** James (Mikey) N. | Graphic Designer, Graphic Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 26, 2018

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Handbrake is very easy to use. Open it up, choose your source video, choose your output and convert your video. There are tons of loaded presets to choose from, or you can dive in and customize your own. You can set a que of multiple videos to save time. Also, it is quick! Oh, I forgot to mention it is also FREE!

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

The UI is starting to get a little dated.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have to convert videos for different formats a lot in my job, and handbrake makes that easy to do. We have digital signs that are sometimes very picky about what type of video format, codec, resolution is needed and Handbrake makes it easy for me to convert videos on the fly.

  ### 6. Handbrake Review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Design | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 02, 2018

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Handbrake software is an amazing and powerful output program designed to help the user downgrade the quality of video that provieds a nice codec layout interface that is very simple and easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

No major flaws and help guided tab provides the user with a full HTTP documnetation.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

Please enjoy the features of this powerful software!

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Uploading and hosting problems resolved after quality video and H.264 output have been created to downsize quality for media solutions.

  ### 7. A Must Have Tool if You Do Not Own Adobe Media Encoder (or equivalent)

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Devices | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 10, 2018

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Handbrake is an amazing FREE tool. It is worth reading how this tool came to be just to appreciate how powerful it is. In my case, I rely more on the simply usability and effectiveness of this tool. My main two use cases are compressing videos down in size or transcoding videos to MP4. I also appreciate the ability to web optimize the video and the helpful list of presets to give you a jump start. Oh yea, the preview function is very helpful as well as you are trying out various settings or creating your own favorites. This tool also supports a drop folder - videos you place in the folder will automatically be processed.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

The user interface contains more than I need but it doesn't get in the way of the learning curve. Watch a YouTube video to see how the workflow works - quite easy once you see it done.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

1) Video compression 2) Conversion to MP4
While I like using Adobe Media Encoder probably the best (being a PC user), Handbrake is my 2nd go to tool for these two activities. I also recommend most frequently to others due to its price and ease of use.

  ### 8. Easy Video Encoding

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dan O. | Managing Director, Internet, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 25, 2017

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

It's a fast and easy which to web optimise video.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

The colour of the video can go a little funky when using handbrake, it would be helpful if I were able to watermark, combine videos/image stills.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Often, in order to explain a process or software defect I make use of screen recording. The problem with recording a video, particularly with my screen resolution, is that the videos that get produced are far large in file size to be easily distributed through the internet over a regular household broadband connection - or email. Handbrake encodes those screen recordings into file sizes that are most easily uploaded and downloaded whilst providing me the ability to manage the quality of the export.

  ### 9. Free utility that does it's job well

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

The thing that makes this app stand out is that it's free, and not "free" where you get spammed or have to install other utilities. Truly "free".

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

It's not the snappiest of applications. I'm sure there are tools that can convert to video files fast, but Handbrake isn't one of them. It tells you your progress though, so there aren't surprises on how long the conversion process will take.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

If you're looking to convert many files quickly, Handbrake might not be the best choice. If you're OK with the process chugging along on a system then it might fit your needs.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I convert videos from one format to another, choosing the quality as you do so. I've used it to convert legacy DVDs we made for customers to videos that can be posted to YouTube.

  ### 10. Useful utility for video compressing

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shawn L. | Técnico de soporte, Telecommunications, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 23, 2017

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

I like how easy is to use and how effective it is when compressing video, and being able to create different presets is a time saver. The preview setting is also nice, as it is possible to know in advance if you are using the correct settings.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

The one thing I dislike about Handbrake is its outdated interface, which can make some of the tools confusing to use at first. It can be slow with some codecs but at least it isn't as resource consuming as other tools, so it isn't such a big deal.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

When it comes to effective tools for free, Handbrake is one of the best tools around and I highly recommend it. The interface is a little outdated but at least it is easy to use.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have been using Handbrake to compress video to send to customers and upload to social media, related to both support and promotions. Keeping a low size is important as often people seeking for support are in a hurry or have connection issues, and phone calls aren't useful enough and/or they can't wait for a scheduled visit.

  ### 11. "Your Cocktail is Done"

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Todd P. | Full Professor, Higher Education, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 06, 2017

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

There are hundreds of great tutorials to learn how to use this program. My expertise is not in video production but his program is easy to learn and use. Once you get a quick tutorial it is easy to use and the fact you can save settings saves you a lot of time and energy. Another great feature is you can set up a list of videos to encode and walk a way as the program works. I also love the the fact when a video is encoded it says "Your Cocktail is Done"

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

Some times its hard to figure out which settings need to be adjusted in order to get the video to a file size small enough to use on a portable device. Often a new operating system will break some encoding features. You then have to download a special file to work on the Mac Os platform. The fix is easy to find but it can be frustrating if you are in a hurry on a project.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

Its best to use this product for its intended purpose for encoding videos you have the rights. Watch the videos that are available. I have used it both on the Mac and Pc and have found it works best on Mac os

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it to take videos I have created and make them smaller to load on a tablet. I then use those videos as I create lighting designs for a theatre production.

  ### 12. A great tool for consistent encoding in a market of inconsistencies.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tashon R. | Digital Media Designer, Higher Education, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 06, 2017

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Completely manual control of the codec. I've been using Handbrake solely for my encoding work. Other encoders (Adobe namely) have resulted in the encodes suffering from colour and gamma shifts. This is unacceptable when you are delivering work for a client.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

The user interface could be a bit more user friendly and provide more indepth tooltips for beginners. Though I image most people using this will understand it anyway.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

Spend some time learning the intricacies of it's various options. We've learnt how to get brilliant looking encodes with tiny file sizes.

Spend some time experimenting with different settings. You'll soon be able to put together a set of presets for easy encoding.

One thing we do miss from Adobe Media Encoder is the watch folder functionality. You'll need to manually setup each encode with Handbrake. We still use Adobe Media Encoder for creating proxy files for editing but Handbrake is our new champion for masters and content delivery.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were wasting a lot of time and money outsourcing our videos to colour houses to ensure that our colour outputs were consistent. We would grade the video and get the exact look we wanted but then the resulting encodes would look noticeably different.

Handbrake takes our ProRes masters and delivers beautiful x264 encodes everytime!

  ### 13. Powerful and highly manipulable, but advanced settings are not for the faint of heart

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ho'omana Nathan H. | International Teaching Assistant (ITA) Program Coordinator, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 01, 2017

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Handbrake is a powerful, efficient program for video encoding and it offers massive room to modify settings to get your quality and file size just right.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

The more advanced settings really take a pretty deep knowledge, and while they offer somewhat extensive documentation, it's more descriptive than explanatory, so you still need to put in quite a bit of legwork yourself to figure out what different settings mean.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

If you're interested in really maximizing file size and quality, I'd recommend putting in the time to understand how video storage works.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Handbrake to encode video of linguistic interviews for easier sharing and storage. Audio preservation is particularly crucial in this work, so Handbrake's vast audio settings allow us to get the audio just right while reducing file size on the video end.

  ### 14. Simple, consistent, and FREE!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 16, 2017

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Handbrake is free and versatile. It's easily used on its default settings by even novice computer users, but is customizable in a huge number of ways for the more advanced users. It's fast, efficient, and reliable.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

The biggest impediment I've encountered with Handbrake (on Mac) is that there is no simple way to rotate/flip the image. For less experienced users (who might not be familiar with the definitions of some parameters), the program could provide more guidance/explanation in the interface itself.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

The online software manual is invaluable! Even if you believe you are already familiar with all of the parameters, be sure to at least look it over. You may learn there are additional capabilities you had no idea were possible with this program.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My department maintains a massive audiovisual archive that is now being converted to a portal website, with materials that span decades and come from dozens of countries. All of our video files are being run through Handbrake before uploading to our server, since we have found that the MP4 encoding in Handbrake has played nicely with EVERY OS, player, and interface we have tried. Our first step whenever we find a video is not displaying or performing properly on our site is to run the file through Handbrake and upload again-- this almost always fixes the issue, which then gives us more time to explore the original problem in depth while simultaneously providing a working solution to our audience almost immediately.

  ### 15. Simple, Versatile Video Transcoding

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eric A. | MBA Computing Consultant, Education Management, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2017

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Handbrake is incredibly easy to use. Simply open your file(s), check preferences for each, and begin encoding. It allows you to queue up additional files, so you can leave your machine on its own during the process. If you aren't very technical, there are a bunch of presets for different file outputs, and they are generally spot on for the average user. There are also other nice touches, like the ability to optimize video output for web, crop videos, manage audio and subtitle tracks, and chapter management.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

There are a few default behaviors that can be annoying, and to my knowledge are unfortunately unchangeable. For example, you can't flat out disable chapter creation for all videos, so you are forced to manually uncheck the box for each video. I believe there is something similar with subtitles, where you must manually press a button to input mutliple sub files from the original video file.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

I just recommend familiarizing yourself with the few minor nuances regarding lack of control over mass video imports, such as inability to disable chapter creation, so you don't forget in the future.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a web developer, sometimes I deal with video on the web. This software is super fast and easy and has saved me so much time. I had a video with black edges that needed to be cropped, and Handbrake automatically set itself up to crop only those edges away from the video, and it did it perfectly. I didn't have to do anything. I also use it for transcoding videos to be played on different devices, and it is always so very reliable.

  ### 16. Handbrake transcodes anything and everything as easy as can be

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Steven H. | Sr. IT Programmer and System Administrator, Hospital & Health Care, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 29, 2017

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

The user interface is simple to use. The presets are great and cover just about every device out there and the capability to manually set aspect ratios, frame rates, etc covers the rest

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

Eats up quite a few resources when running but that is to be expected so not a huge deal.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

I would recommend Handbrake to anybody that is looking for an easy solution to transcode video to produce a consistent product among a variety of platforms

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use handbrake as a way to make video portable across all platforms and as a way to standardize our content to provide consistent quality and results

  ### 17. A video editor's lifesaver

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 15, 2018

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

An open source video converter that can convert everything you need from delivering projects to clients or sizing down into a digestible file format to transfer easily to your colleague.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

Updates come infrequently and the UI could be a little simpler, but since it's open-source I'm not complaining.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

The custom settings section can be a bit complicated and advanced-looking, but the presets settings on the sidebar is really all you need for beginners.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can queue up my hundreds of video projects to convert into multiple different formats very easily. I can convert last minute too if a client needs to post a video right away and he has bumped into formatting issues.

  ### 18. Easy Video Rendering

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 21, 2018

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

The thing I like best is the expansive selection of video rendering options that Handbrake has to offer. They can convert any video to the format you need. This is very helpful when converting imovies or windows movie clips to mp4.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

This product works very well. There is very little to want or improve upon with product.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is a simple video rendering/converting software that allows you the versatility to tailor video clips for your business needs.

  ### 19. Handbrake is awesome

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dieter G. | Marketing and Entertainment Manager, Entertainment, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 19, 2017

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

It's super easy to use, and very efficient

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

There are a lot of functions, which sometimes, is overkill.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

It's a great product, has lots of features (which can sometimes be frustrating), but it is super quick, and very easy to use.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I do a lot of 4K video editing, and therefore need to compress my videos before uploading them. handbrake helps me do this, super quick, and super efficiently.

  ### 20. Fantastic for a free program

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 07, 2018

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Ripping dvds, converting files and transcoding media. It works great for all of this.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

I honestly have no issues. It could support a few more codecs and options for conversion.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it to quickly convert files and fix frame rate issues.

  ### 21. Better than paid software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Danny P. | Director Of Distance Learning, Religious Institutions, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 26, 2017

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Its Free! And its super customizable. You can do almost anything you would want. Handbrake allows for very specific customization of your video compression to best suit your particular need.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

The user interface can be confusing if you don't have previous experience encoding video. It would be nice to have more how to videos accessible.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

Read up on how to use Handbrake before implementing it into your workflow and run a few tests on shorter video clips so you can see the results before setting up a long queue.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are transcoding large amounts of video for upload online

  ### 22. Wow amazing tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 23, 2017

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

The best thing about handbrake is the speed just takes few seconds to compress a huge video and also doesn’t brake the quality and gives you a file of few mb that you can send by mail with out problems

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

I dislike sometimes when the video is bigger than hd you need to put the size by hand it doesn’t recognize it automatically

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

When you try it you you will use it forever

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can share any video by mail or phone with the clients and the size are just few mb

  ### 23. Best Open Source Encoder

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 26, 2018

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Great Power, Great Options, Easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

UI can be a bit clunky at times, and for newbies it can take a minute to learn.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Reduced Costs.

  ### 24. A Must Have if you Use a Mac and Need to Convert any type of Video

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Market Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2017

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

I like how easy it is to use. Drag and drop. Minimal settings. Quick encoding.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

I dislike how little there is very little information about the encoding options. The software expects the user to be very proficient in video encoding.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

It's great to use but make sure you google the encoding options to bake the best decision.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Trying to reduce file size from raw video for video archival and internet upload.

  ### 25. The only compression solution you should be using.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Biotechnology | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 11, 2017

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Handbrake is my go-to compression software for challenging encodes - when I want it small and want it looking good at the same time, there's no alternative. Except maybe going frame-by-frame and applying custom compression? But handbrake is easier :P

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

The interface isn't the most intuitive, but anybody who's worked in video since the good old deck-to-deck days should be used to that kind of thing.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

Don't think Adobe Media Encoder is going to save you. This is the kind of free tool you need if you're going to deliver good quality video to customers.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Video is a giant bandwidth black-hole-sucking-sound at the heart of the internet. We all know this. I don't want my internal clients' customers waiting and waiting to see a video that they might not really be into watching in the first place (advertising: nobody really wants to ever see it).

By really throttling on the compression with Handbrake and tweaking the algorithm, I'm able to get great results - great looking video that downloads quickly.

  ### 26. Perfect simplicity

Handbrake is a straight to the point application. There's no fluff or needless graphics.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

I quite like all aspects and options available.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use handbrake to convert media taken of issues on mobile devices, to later submit in bugs.

  ### 27. Great solution for converting to .mp4

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Very easy to use. You can convert movies into .mp4 and .mkv format in no time - with just a few clicks.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

I would like to see more output options.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

File conversions make it easier for us to use the same video across different platforms

  ### 28. Quick and easy to use

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lewis W. | Web Designer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 21, 2016

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Handbrake is the simplest solution for video compression on Mac. Before I used Handbrake I had an elaborate setup in order to reduce the file sizes of some of my videos. Now Handbrake does the magic for me in a much shorter time.

Handbrake can also compress multiple videos in a row. This saves further time when managing a batch of videos.

Handbrake is also versatile at ripping video clips from DVDs. I initially used Handbrake to convert my old family videos into digital files. The process was simple and Handbrake was stable throughout.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

The interface to Handbrake is quite bare and can be a little over complicated. It isn't all too intuitive upon first use. A lot of the features in handbrake don't necessarily explain what they are unless you search online. Handbrake is a technical tool for technical people. It would be helpful to have a friendlier user interface to make this product more usable for a wider audience.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

Handbrake is a free application for mac users. It is simple to use and I highly recommend it if you are looking for a quick solution to video compression and conversion.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Handbrake introduces a quick solution to video compression and saves time when preparing videos for the web. I manage a lot of high quality videos and Handbrake With Handbrake, we can now collect more video footage on a flash drive due to great compression.

  ### 29. Quick and easy open source video encoder

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** JeriBeth S. | Freelance Web Developer, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 20, 2016

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Handbrake is easy to use and offers a lot of options for converting and encoding video files. One can choose the type of device, including Apple iPhone and iTouch touch devices, and quality of encoding to help control the size of the files being encoded. Choose between chapters, seconds, and frames of the video being encoded. Also choose between web optimized and iPod 5G support. Can tweak options for Video, Audio, Subtitles, and Chapters to really dial in the best encoding for your project. Picture settings allow you to adjust height, width, cropping, aspect ratios and more. Also offers filters such as grayscale, deblock, denoise, decomb, and detelecine with preview before committing to changes. Has preview window, activity menu and presets, along with show queue and add to queue easy access buttons at the top of the panel.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

Really nit-picky, but the interface could be prettier. Only two format to choose from - mp4 and mkv although those should work for most situations.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

Open source, free software that's easy to use.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Trying to get a large video file encoded for a business website that won't take hours to load and be optimized for mobile devices.

  ### 30. Best encoding app and its 100% free

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Akshay C. | UX Designer, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 02, 2017

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Fast encoding app using this ever since I switched to Mac back in 2009.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

Interface is something this app can work on. This could use a UI simplification like Final Cut Pro X
GPU and CUDA core utilization. I wish there was a passive mode that renders video in background without using too much resources.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

Perfect app no better alternative

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Transcoding conference videos, interviews and vlogs to Youtube video format. Putting videos to your iPad/iPhone for reviewing on flights. It works like a charm.

  ### 31. I use Handbrake Daily

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mike G. | Media Producer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2016

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Handbrake is a quick and easy way to compress video files into .mp4 files. I use this every time I export from Final Cut Pro X for my final copy to upload to our video server or to save a high quality final file. I really like the built in presets that I can choose from also when picking my final video specifications.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

The only thing I can think of that I dislike is the fact that its not the quickest to just create a 720p version from a 1080p clip. You could make a preset, but it would be nice if there was a official preset to quickly and easily change the video dimensions from a higher output to a lower output video size.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

If you are looking for a cheap (as far as I know, its free) software to compress video files into .mp4 this is a wonderfully easy solution.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to take my very large raw FCPX video files and compress them to a high quality, but also a way smaller file size. This helps tremendously when trying to share and store video files.

  ### 32. Useful tool that's easy to understand and free!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matthew H. | Marketing Coordinator, Law Practice, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 03, 2016

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Free! Never cost me a penny. Useful for turning DVD files in to other formats. Very basic software in terms of understanding.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

Sometimes video can come out "choppy." Of course this depends on file type and size, but it can be an inconvenience.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

I generally use it to turn DVDs in to editable video formats. Avoid using it to make illegal copies or digital files of movies and other videos protected by copyright. Doing so goes against Handbrake's terms & conditions.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Often times we will receive surveillance video in a DVD format which cannot be edited. Using handbrake, however, I'm able to turn it in to most edit-friendly file formats such as MP4, AVI, etc.

  ### 33. Nothing Better Than Handbrake

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael B. | Church Planting Resident, Religious Institutions, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 18, 2016

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Handbrake was the easiest software to use and was extremely intuitive. I never felt like I had to know everything about Handbrake in order to use it.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

Handbrake does more than rip DVDs and I never felt like I was getting the full use out of the software. I wish there were more tutorials so that I could use the program to the fullest extent of its capabilities.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

Do it. There isn't anything better out there. You will search for something and you will be disappointed in the product. Just use Handbrake and thank me later.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed clips from popular movies to be used in a few performance and public speaking appearances. Using Handbrake allowed us to use content that could illustrate a point better than we could telling the story on our own.

  ### 34. Great Free Software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cassandra W. | Administrative Assistant, Religious Institutions, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 08, 2016

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

I love how easy it is to use Handbrake. The entire process is very quick and extremely simple. After setting up the conversion that you would like to make you can simply let it run in the background and go about your business. It converts a number of different file types which is great! I use this all of the time at work and absolutely love it!

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

I cannot think of anything that I dislike. It would be great to see them add on to the program and continue to grow, but at the moment it takes care of all of my needs!

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

I highly recommend trying out Handbrake to convert your video files. It is free, easy to use and works great!

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use this to convert video files to use in our weekly worship slides, on our website, etc. It saves me a ton of time and allows us to include so many cool elements to our worship!

  ### 35. Good flexibility

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michelle W. | Controller, Renewables & Environment, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 18, 2016

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Super easy to use, flexible output options. I liked that we could get a presentation into the right format for a meeting where they didn't have the same programs we did.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

Hard to learn at first, but then it make sense. Some minor UI changes might help, because actual use is really easy once you get it set up. The most common pre-sets didn't work for us but was simple to change the export settings to meet our needs.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

Good all-purpose tool, and free option makes it competitive with other apps.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Compatibility with different VC or meeting rooms where you don't know what set up you'll have available. Ease of sharing information or educational videos across offices..

  ### 36. Necessary for video editing

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Individual & Family Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 26, 2016

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

My HD video camera records beautiful footage, but saves in a format I can't immediately open in Camtasia. Handbrake makes it easy for me to convert these files into an editable file with no hassle. It's the easiest way I've found to convert video files, by far.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

I wish that Handbrake could convert other types of files. I need a program that will allow me to convert PDF into eBook formats like Mobi or Epub. I know that type of program exists, but I'd love to have it as part of Handbrake so it could all be in one program.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

I would definitely try this for any video conversion needs- it's not as good for audio conversion.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have several employees who also use Handbrake. As a nonprofit, the fact that Handbrake is free is huge for us. We don't have the budget to purchase conversion software for everyone that needs it.

  ### 37. Open source, free, efficient, what else?

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Fabio A. | Marketing Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 19, 2016

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Now, let's get it right. You need to do something specific, such as converting a DVD source into an mp4 or mkv file that you want to upload in instance on YouTube or a similar media. When you need soemthing so specific, usually you search for a freeware, possibly ads free, software, and most of the time you spend your day installing and unistalling softwares that claim to be the ones and they are not (they either don't do what they say or they don't work proprerly). Oh well, HandBrake is the one instead and it doesn lie, it just does what it says. It is as easy as it can be, direct, immediate, a few click and there it is, your mp4 ready and cooked. Something that impressed me is that it doesn't stress the CPU like other software I tried before. It is exremely fast and precize. The output quality is perfect and I had no trouble to convert 4:3 ratio and 16:9 ratio DVD source. Really, can't imagine a lighter, more efficent software to help you converting DVD into mp4 or mkv. It is also full of options you can use.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

I know it sounds odd, but no, I haven't found so far anything I would improve or that does not work properly.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

Just get it if you need it. it is fast, no ads, it doesn't oveload your system in anyway and it does right what it s meant to. I am really entusiastic to share this review because it saved a lot of my time. And valuable, it is a true free and complete software.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Converting a DVD source into an uploadable mp4 video format or mkv.

  ### 38. Love this!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jill O. | Admissions Advisor, Higher Education, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 29, 2016

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

I've only used this product once but as a first time user it was easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

I haven't used this product enough to point out any dislikes.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I needed to submit a small segment of a graduation ceremony. This product helped me complete the task.

  ### 39. Handbrake - An arrow in the video editors quiver

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brennan B. | Video Editor, Apparel & Fashion, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 26, 2016

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

Handbrake is one of those programs that save so much time and effort, you wonder why everybody doesn't already know about it. Converting video files in post production is a every day occurrence. With the built in standard compression templates in Handbrake, it is easy as drag and drop. The interface is super easy to use and with the need to convert files for so many different modes of playback, handbrake can fit most needs without even changing the basic settings.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

It seems like Handbrake could use more development to make a whole suite of easy to use video applications. We want more programs like this for audio, video editing, uploading interfaces for youtube, and other social media platforms.. What a great opportunity.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

This should be one of those programs that are check'd off every time you set up a new computer. All people working in video should use this.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With most standard fallback video compressors, there are codecs that aren't recognized. Handbrake is the tool that I use to make the high quality compressions from files like .mkv files, that are becoming popular and widely used, but not addressed in other compressors. If they are used in software tools other than Handbrake, the quality of the final file is usually low. Handbrake allows you to generate conversions very easily while also keeping a super high level of quality.

  ### 40. I use this product for video conversion from DVDs, as well as moving between different video codecs

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jonathan L. | Radio Technical Producer, Financial Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 07, 2016

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

I love that the software allows me the creativity to work with different video codecs, which makes encoding videos much easier.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

I wish that that it allowed for great video quality resolutions options

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

I believe that anyone can get a strong knowledge and understanding of video codecs by using Handbrake. It's incredibly useful and does a great deal for video editors and producers at any level.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is helping me to solve various video encoding issues at my job.

  ### 41. Best video converter ever

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Graphic Design | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 29, 2016

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

It is the best video converter high quality, easy to use, multi-platform that you can get online; able to convert any format, at least the most used, and the best It's FREE!.
The user interface is quite simple, a small learning curve to understand how it works, but it is quite logical so I think anyone using them with few minutes can convert a video, at least using the presets that come with the application.
For more advanced users also it offers more possibilities as:
Title / chapter and range selection
Batch Scan and Queueing of encodes
Chapter Markers
Subtitles (VobSub, CEA-608 Closed Captioning, SSA, SRT)
Cropping and scaling

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

To my level does not have any problem, it has made my job easier

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

If you need to share video on your social networks, website etc, with lightweight and great quality videos but know nothing of CODEC or Average Bitrate HANDBRAKE is the best tool you can have in your workflow in a few minutes you can share all the videos you want in any social network or website

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Part of my job was to provide my light and quality to share their social networks for video customers, and using after effects / premier was quite difficult to get the best quality and low weight of the video to be delivered; perhaps due to ignorance; but since I found Handbrake; all customers are satisfied with the quality and even and increased the number of videos requested me.

  ### 42. Handbrake Review

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aaron W. | Assistant Editor, Media Production, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 15, 2016

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

I like the price range and usability of the product.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

I dislike that there is little to no support help.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

Handbrake is an awesome tool to use. The first major selling point in my mind is that it is a free program to use. It can rival Media Encoder in some aspects and gets the job done. I have heard handbrake is also good at ripping movies and blurays onto computers. Although I find it better at simply changing or converting video file types to something more fitting to my workflow.

All that being said it is not a perfect program, it is simply a free and efficient tool

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm solving issues when we need to rip a video and/or change its settings quickly.

  ### 43. Great Product With an Unbeatable Price

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Entertainment | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 29, 2016

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

HandBrake is a great tool for our organization. We are able to samples of our instructors work on DVD and quickly and easily transfer them to MP4 files for demonstrations in their classes.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

Turning on subtitles and figuring out what audio track to choose for foreign language films could be easier, but it does not impede the process of adding or choosing them from DVDs.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

This is the perfect choice if all you want to do is encode a quick MP4. You can't beat the price. The software is free and very easy to use. It might not be the best solution if you are working on a project like a documentary film, but for a quick, grab-n-go use it is exemplary.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use HandBrake to take short clips from films our teachers have produced, written or directed to use as class examples.

  ### 44. Steep Learning Curve

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Broadcast Media | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 07, 2016

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

When it comes to getting video off of a DVD this is the only route I take. I love all of the available export options, as well as how technical i can get with file settings. It offers a very professional result when you know what to do.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

there is a very steep learning curve with using this program. its User Interface is very technical and it takes a long while to sort out what all of the functions do. something like a recommended setting would be super helpful. there are also many functions that are somewhat buried that are almost impossible to find right away.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

If you have a professional need to get video off of a disc then there is no better option for the money.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This is the only program I use for ripping DVDs that clients give me. often times clients don't realize how difficult it can be to pull something like a wedding video off a disc, but with this it's a breeze.

  ### 45. Handbrake accelerates

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

It's so simple and easy to use. No matter what files you have or what type of conversion you're doing it will accommodate.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

It's a program that's used by consumers a lot but may not be industry standard.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Quick and easy conversions allow faster work flow when needing to convert files received from clients in order to import into pro tools.

  ### 46. Compression

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** May 24, 2016

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

Wish it had a built in trimmer to cut length of videos.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Able to manage my own files.

  ### 47. The only tool I use for ripping to DVD's and video conversion

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Human Resources | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2014

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

I've been using Handbrake since DVD's were prominent, I think that's been since 2005/6. This is a great tool for getting video or videos from your Mac to a DVD and from a DVD to your Mac. It's also handy for converting video to another format that can easily play on mobile devices. I find myself using this for business trips. I like to jam a few movies on my laptop and some workout videos so that I can use them on my trip.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

It's a little intimidating to use. The UI looks very technical but after a few tries, you'll get the hang of it. I haven't tried this for BluRay and something tells me it won't work for BluRay.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

Handbrake hasn't changed. It's an open source product that was never meant for the masses. While it is intimidating, I encourage you to at least give it a spin as it is very effective and once you've used it a few times, relatively easy to use.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've been able to convert video content to more convenient consumable formats.

  ### 48. Great DVD ripping tool!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Avni P. | Global Talent Acquisition Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2014

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

What I love about Handbrake is that its very quick in converting a batch of high definition videos to MP4 for backward compatibility. It’s fast, and installation is quick. It’s also free! It can rip dvds within an hour. Furthermore, it has far more image quality adjustment filters than other free tools.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

I wish it would tell you that you first need to backup a DVD since trying to rip it straight from the DVD or DVD drive will not work.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

This is a good dvd ripping burning tool, I highly recommend it!

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Some of the benefits include : it's safe to install ( No malicious software attached) and all conversions are based on the superior free x264 codec

  ### 49. Handbrake: Amazing Tool for Converting your DVDs to different digital formats

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brittany D. | Member of Governor Youngkin's Commission on Human Trafficking Prevention and Survivor Support, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2014

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

When my husband was leaving on deployment, we were able to create digital copies of his favorite DVDs and save them to an external hard drive. This allowed him to access them throughout the deployment without having to bring all those DVDs.

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

It can take awhile to transfer all your DVDs to digital format. It also ruined the disc drive on our computer by doing too many.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

Awesome tool for transferring your DVDs to digital format

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Transferring DVDs to digital format that can be transferred easily and take up less space.

  ### 50. Converting movies or ripping DVDs with free, Open Source software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stefan B. | sr. BIM Manager, Information Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 27, 2014

**What do you like best about Handbrake?**

It works very well and has complete codec support for most use cases.
It has presets for many devices.
Support for chapters, subtitles, movie cropping, ...

**What do you dislike about Handbrake?**

If you go into the details, there are too many options to choose from. I'd stick with the presets and work from that.

**Recommendations to others considering Handbrake:**

Handy movie conversion and ripping of DVDs. And free but with complete support for most codecs. Use the device presets, as the actual settings are too numerous to bother with.

**What problems is Handbrake solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Since my newest laptop doesn't have an optical drive anymore, I can use it to transfer a DVD from my Desktop computer into a ripped format. Have also used it to convert video files into a format more compatible with my devices (e.g. iPhone)
