It is enhanced by a good experience in browsing protection for users, has Web filtering, which protects users from unsafe websites, and has control over Traffic Shaping for users and applications. **What do you dislike about FortiGate-VM NGFW?** On several occasions throughout this year, we experienced a major problem that was causing a degradation in our internet. Initially, we created several cases requesting support from the manufacturer to try to find the source of the poor internet performance and user experience, especially in video conferencing. After hours of troubleshooting and testing, we discovered that the problem was caused by a security feature protection of IDS and IPS that was only automatically applied during high traffic hours during the day. **Recommendations to others considering FortiGate-VM NGFW:** The only advice I would like to give to customers is that the product is very effective, and it's right to keep in mind that FortiGate for large-scale solutions with a limited budget can work quite remarkably. **What problems is FortiGate-VM NGFW solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have another stage of development to go through where we will implement internal separation called ISFW by Fortinet with this device, provided it is able to operate at the advertised capacity, but it remains to be seen if this is the case. A FortiGate is a next-generation firewall that can be deployed in two different modes: ISFW and NGFW. The first will ensure total internal segmentation of your LAN to protect business-critical environments and important assets or those protected by trade secrets, restrictive privacy regulations, etc. The second type of deployment, which is also the one I use the most and that the end user encounters more often, involves functioning as a classic firewall but with high-end options like UTM, sandboxing, antispam, and application-level antivirus, content filtering, and dozens of features related to the virtualization of firewall environments that Fortinet calls virtual domains or vdoms. Vdoms is the feature I love the most because it allows, with a single device, the creation of additional (the number varies from license to license) virtual firewalls that can be assigned to multiple clients (very useful in a campus environment) while sharing the hardware of a single firewall, thus saving hours of work, on the cost of the firewall itself, and on cabling and electrical power, all without affecting overall performance in the slightest. Pure magic! **What do you dislike about FortiGate-VM NGFW?** The UI interface replacing the CLI should be improved in terms of its ability to adapt through responsive layouts (already present but, in my opinion, poorly managed) to devices with lower resolution and tablets (the latter being widely used within data centers due to their minimal bulk in confined spaces because of the racks). Currently, it is not possible to perform many management actions from 5-inch smartphones and 10-inch tablets. This is not a criticism but just a suggestion, obviously, it is not a fundamental necessity. **What problems is FortiGate-VM NGFW solving and how is that benefiting you?** Create multiple virtualized firewall environments on a single active-active FortiGate cluster to provide individual campus tenant clients with control over their own virtual firewall instead of managing complicated authentication systems and permissions between rulesets and users of a single firewall panel. I achieved total segmentation with a minimal initial investment compared to what I would have spent to buy individual firewalls for clients who would have requested them. ### 21. I did Virtualize a Fortigate 100D and I had no problem doing so, once the virtual machine starts the configuration of the Firewall is exactly the same as if you were manipulating a physical device. As a firewall it stands out as one of the few firewalls in which its installation and implementation can be done without the need for Fortinet support. On a personal level, when our 500E and 200E firewalls were implemented, the installation and configuration was carried out in the company without requiring external support. It had to replace two Fortigate 110C for a 500E and a 200E.
