The feature that I find most attractive in CosmoLex is that it integrates practice management, billing, accounting, and document management all within one software system. Centralizing everything is very convenient because it becomes easier to handle the day-to-day business activities without having to switch from one system to another.

Another thing I value in this software is its legal accounting and trust accounting capabilities. These features make financial management more efficient and straightforward while still meeting the necessary requirements.

A point of dislike regarding CosmoLex is that the program is rather cluttered since so much functionality exists within one system, making navigation through such functions as billing, accounting, and matter management quite difficult.

Another point of dislike is that certain processes may involve several clicks, which slows down routine activities. Reporting functionality should also be customized more, as sometimes the view of reports does not fit specific needs of certain users.

I really like the trust accounting feature in CosmoLex. I can reconcile all of my bank statements, including my trust account, within about two minutes per account because it's easy, straightforward, and just really well thought out. I guess my worry is that increasingly I don't want to 'over engineer' our practice by being too reliant on integrated tools. Everything is in one place, which makes it easy to access client information, billing, and calendar details. The Client Portal also lets clients view their own information, so they stop calling about logistics like court dates and times. I really appreciate how CosmoLex helps save my time through the automation of practice management and file management. It also assists with bookkeeping, but what I like the most is that it keeps everything up to date. They regularly release new features, and I value their ongoing support from the tech team. The introduction of the open API was particularly helpful for automation. I also enjoy the integration with tools like Gmail. The setup was pretty easy when they first launched, and even though it has more features now, there's a supportive team available. I love the fact that accounting (including Trust accounting) is integrated into the software. No separate accounting software is necessary so everything from time, to billing to collection integrates seamlessly. It is a very customizable and flexible program that can accommodate different needs. Also, the software forces good Trust accounting procedures. In recent years, CosmoLex has been sold at least twice. The newest corporate owner is not nearly as responsive and quick with support questions. CosmoLex has gone the way of most successful small businesses, they have been sold to large companies that increase the price and decrease the customer service. Also, it is very annoying that they are constantly trying to push/sell new products to you.

The program will "freeze" up from time to time and you have to either reload the page or sometimes close it down. It will at times get very slow, but this doesn't happen with regularity. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It is an excellent tool for docketing time and billing clients. The Customer Support is very good and much better than other Legal Accounting Software that I have used. My bookkeeper uses CosmoLex to do my accounting and there have been no issues with that. He actually recommended CosmoLex to me. I use CosmoLex daily in my practice primarily for docketing and billing purposes and have had no significant issues. I use CosmoLex for accounting and docketing software, file tracking, and administrative works. I really like the built-in reports because they are very easy to access and understand, making firm reviews much easier since all of the information is in the same place. The matter creation feature is beneficial because it keeps all the information in one place. I find that more accounting reports would be nice, like billing summaries and general ledgers for individual files. Also, a more accurate time keeper reporting would be beneficial. A more accurate unbilled balance would also be nice—sometimes if there are a lot of dockets/disbursements in a file, the unbilled balance at the top of the matter will give a number, but when you go to generate the invoice, the number is different. It doesn't happen often, but it seems the unbilled balance calculates HST on the total while invoices calculate HST on individual lines, which sometimes gives different amounts.
