"Streamlines Client Tasks and internal/external communication, But Reporting Needs Improvement"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

We use canopy to smooth out processes within our firm for bookkeeping, tax and advisory services. The client portal is great for clients to have one place to go to view and sign documents along with paying invoices. That ability to streamline processes from sales engagements to client onboarding to working with the client is improving constantly. Customer support is very responsive. The AI features are helping us improve efficiencies - especially the embedded Canopy Notetaker. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

The reporting features still aren’t easy to use. It takes a lot of time to learn the Insights reporting tools well enough to generate the specific reports our firm needs. I also wish the client portal had a built-in communication feature. It sounds like that may be coming in the future, but for now it’s a noticeable gap. The client portal also NEEDS a way to show where a client is in a process. For example, during tax season, we would really like the client to be able to log in to their client portal and see that their returns are prepared and being reviewed without needing to send an email to check on their status. For being a platform that caters to tax and accounting, those sorts of features could really be strenghtened. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Truly All-in-One Platform That Streamlined Our Accounting Firm"
5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

It is truly an all-in-one solution for Accounting firms. We can do billing, collect documents from clients, run reports, organize documents, plan capacity for staff, and more, all in one platform. Before Canopy, we had at least 3 different systems to complete these items. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

The document manager is a little clunky compared to other solutions I have used. Not being able to edit a document from within the task screen is a headache for staff. But, something I have to give Canopy credit for is that they are constantly making improvements and they take feedback from real users. I have talked to the Canopy team on multiple occasions and suggested refinements, and have been thrilled to see some of these come to fruition. They are really trying to fix the items we don't like. "True All‑in‑One Platform That Replaces Fragmented Tools"
5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

One of Canopy’s greatest strengths is its ability to consolidate core practice management functions into a single system. Instead of juggling separate tools for CRM, document storage, workflow tracking, billing, and tax resolution, our firm operates within one unified platform. The result is a more streamlined, scalable operating model. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

For growing teams with multiple users and feature needs, total cost of ownership can become significantly higher than expected, and initial setup and workflow configuration require significant time and effort before you are able to extract the full value of the product. "Comprehensive Solution with Stellar Support"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

I use Canopy for storing documents and collaborating with clients, and I appreciate its communication feature, which makes linking our email a breeze. The new monthly close feature in beta is another aspect that we're excited about. The Canopy portal is incredibly easy to use, and we find that clients comply with it well. I've tried a lot of different software as an accountant, and Canopy really stands out as all-encompassing. Between practice management and file sharing, it's a solid choice if you're looking for something that can do just about everything. I really like Canopy's clean user interface, which makes it easy for my staff to pick up even without training. The community support is fantastic, with webinars and classrooms that foster a sense of shared success among users. Their team was incredibly supportive during our transition too. What do you dislike about Canopy?

If they could improve this closed module during the beta to something that could compete with Double, we would be so excited to add that on and move our entire advisory team over to Canopy. Right now, it's just our tax team that lives in there, and our advisory team has to live in two different systems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"All-in-One, Reliable Platform with Great Support and QBO Integration"
5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

The most helpful feature is having everything in one place for Client Work, Engagements, Payments and Time Tracking. Navigating everything within Canopy helps my Day to Day operations run much more efficiently and has been very reliable. The other feature that is helpful is being able to integrate to QBO so that I can balance my business books easier. The Pricing of Canopy is very affordable and the help I've received from Customer Service on any issues I've had has been great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

There is nothing that I dislike about Canopy right now. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Easy Client Tracking, Major Paper Savings—with a Few Frictions"
5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

I like how easy Canopy is to use and how it looks. It helps me organize each client’s portal, track where we are in the process with each file, and communicate and share with our clients. The task and tracking feature lets me see where each file is in the process and create year-over-year production data. We’ve probably cut our paper usage by over 75%. The initial setup was very easy, and we’re so happy to have Canopy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

I find changing new clients' information on the homepage, especially their email, difficult. I'm not sure why I can't just change the email address and be done. We don't use Canopy's billing feature because we've seen some issues along the way, and the rate isn't as good as what we currently have. The risk of transferring everything and not getting those benefits keeps us from doing it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Streamlines Tax Workflows, but Needs a Better Dashboard"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

I find Canopy really easy to use for intaking and onboarding clients and retrieving their confidential tax information. I like having billing, invoicing, and client information in one centralized hub, where I can see what each client owes. I can track work from receiving data through tax return completion and e-filing with the task and status updates. I can also see the team’s workload and where a return is sitting or hung up, then allocate resources to help complete it and manage capacity. The monthly recurring billing works great for our retainer work, and it was very easy to move our clients over and import their contact information in one shot. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

I’d like a better overview of every job in process and who it sits with internally. The dashboard isn’t very user-friendly for that, so we developed our own project tracker to see which clients are in process and who they’re with in a more visually appealing dashboard that works better for our company. "Streamlined Client Management and Workflow Solutions"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

I love that Canopy manages our accounting firm’s day-to-day operations excellently, helping with client management, secure document storage, workflow and task management, time tracking, invoicing, and more. It helps us stay organized and consolidated with client work, deadlines, and documents all in one place, reducing friction and keeping us accountable. I really appreciate the centralization of features like documents, billing, tasks, and client portal, making client management from start to finish much easier. The built-in notetaker is another highlight; it automatically captures and transcribes meeting notes, creates action items and summaries, and allows us to add these to our client records. This feature saves time and enables us to be more present in client conversations without worrying about data handling. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

It would be great to see more flexibility in workflow automations, although they are really great. Additional customization options for task management and templates would be helpful. But overall, Canopy has been responsive to customer feedback and is constantly making improvements. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Feature-Rich but Integration Challenges"
4/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

I like that Canopy ships a lot of new products and features. It doesn't feel like stale software and seems to get better as time goes on. I appreciate that document requests are built into tasks, keeping everything in one place so I can track where things are at. When I need to ask the client for more things, I can do it from within the task, and it automatically reminds the client about what I need. This feature is quite helpful because I don't have to search through emails to remind myself what I need if they didn't respond. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

Because Canopy is constantly adding improvements, sometimes things are a little buggy or lack some core features at first. I've learned not to be too early an adopter on some things. Unfortunately, Canopy doesn't play well with other software because they try to do it all themselves. That's a good thing most of the time, but it can be frustrating when there's another software I really like that works better than what Canopy offers for that particular tool. "good for centralizing AR workflows but reporting is a bit rigid"
4/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

The document management and client portal setup make tracking financial records and client deliverables straightforward. It centralizes client communication, billing, and work tracking in one place so our team doesn't have to constantly jump between separate email threads and spreadsheets to verify payment or filing status. Managing client invoicing and tracking outstanding balances directly tied to tasks is very practical for daily operational work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

The reporting module is honestly a bit rigid. Coming from a data analysis background where I use Power BI everyday, getting custom datasets exported for deeper AR/AP analysis takes way more clicks than it should. Also the platform can get a little sluggish when loading up client profiles that have a ton of heavy document attachments. It definitely takes some trial and error to get the workflow templates mapped out exactly how we need them for our specific P2P processes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
