"Easy Data Masking and Secure Database Approvals"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Bytebase?

I really like the concepts behind data masking, approval workflows, and data export in the older versions. Since I’ve been a Bytebase customer since the early 1.xx.xx versions, I’m quite familiar with the changes and improvements over time.

So far, it has been quite difficult to find a suitable alternative because our requirements are based on the features we currently use in Bytebase. I hope Bytebase will continue introducing new features that bring more value to users like me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Bytebase?

As I mentioned earlier, some features were already very good, but after updates, they were either removed or changed in ways that made them less useful. For example, the data export feature, the Custom Approval list, and the Audit Log. It’s a bit disappointing to see these changes, especially since these features were already working well for our needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Secure, Auditable SQL Access That Frees Up the Data Team"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Bytebase?

I like that Bytebase gives us an easy-to-use way to query data and create auditable paths. We use it to run SQL queries securely and cross-validate them across different environments. I can set limits on what people can do and request, give people different access levels depending on the environment, and require sign-off from dedicated DBAs for production queries. It takes away the day-to-day, mundane need for a data team to run queries for different business needs, like break/fix or reporting. Bytebase was easy to set up and get started with. It keeps getting better and has become much more stable over the last year, and the team is responsive when issues come up. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Bytebase?

I don’t have much to say about what doesn’t work. Bytebase has been working on making their new releases more stable and backwards compatible. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Bytebase Brings Reviewed, Traceable Schema Changes and Safer SQL Migrations"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Bytebase?

The thing that sold us on Bytebase was having every schema change go through one reviewed workflow instead of someone running DDL by hand on production at 11pm. The migration history is there when we need to trace what changed and when, and the SQL review rules catch the obvious footguns before they reach a database. Setting up environments and tying changes to approvals took us an afternoon, not a sprint. Being able to point developers at the SQL Editor with scoped access also cut down on the “can someone run this query for me” messages Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Bytebase?

There’s a learning curve around the project/environment/instance model — it clicked eventually. Up-to this date, they don't allow table level multi-team approval/ownership within a single project It would be great if they invest in adding data cataloging & governance into this tool. It already covers audits and access, domain/ems/teams ownership and documentation links and hierarchically adding more to integrate automation with external tools is very beneficial Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Bytebase Makes Database Change Management Clean, Safe, and Fast"
5/5
What do you like best about Bytebase?

A great experience using Bytebase.

What stands out immediately is how much it simplifies database change management. The workflow is clean and structured - schema migrations, reviews, and approvals are all handled in one place, which significantly reduces risk compared to ad hoc scripts or manual processes.

The UI is intuitive, even for teams that aren’t deeply specialized in database ops. It’s easy to track changes, audit history, and understand what’s been deployed and why. The SQL review and approval flow is especially valuable since it enforces discipline without slowing the team down.

Overall, Bytebase strikes a strong balance between governance and developer velocity. It’s a solid choice if you want to bring more structure and safety to database operations without adding unnecessary friction. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Bytebase?

Occasionally, the updates have caused some regressions that slowed us down from deploying through Bytebase. However, the team has been quick to respond to incidents and patches to get schemas changes flowing through again. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Secure, Granular Database Access Control Made Easy with Bytebase"
5/5
What do you like best about Bytebase?

Before adopting Bytebase, we had built our own in-house system for managing database access permissions. By leveraging features such as the GUI SQL Editor, data masking, and permission management, we are now able to connect to and manage our databases more securely. We particularly appreciate the ability to control permissions in a granular way using roles and permissions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Bytebase?

Nothing in particular. We have occasionally encountered bugs after version upgrades, but whenever we reported them, the Bytebase team promptly investigated and addressed the issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Decent database query tool"
4/5
What do you like best about Bytebase?

Good open source to review workflow with SQL, works well with GitHub, easy for data migration and backup Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Bytebase?

Maybe better alternatives out there such as MySQ, ManageDB or Prisma for extra functions. Free version only offers somewhat limited functions, meanwhile paid can be rather steep for extra capabilities. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
