## About Bruno
Bruno is the only modern API client that is: 1. Open-source 2. Doesn't collect any of your data (personal or API information) 3. Uses native git functionality for collaboration The space has been dominated by products that force you into a proprietary format for storage of Collections that means you have to maintain two sources of truth: your code in Git and your Collections in your product of choice. Bruno removes this barrier through using a file-based storage system. Maintain a single collection that can be updated in either Git or through Bruno's desktop client. Every company says that security is important to them. Well, we take it so seriously that Bruno simply doesn't have the ability to collect your data. There's no way to create an account in Bruno, and there's no cloud connectivity for storage of your data.

**What do you like best about Bruno?**

I like Bruno for API testing, especially because of its user experience, which minimizes problems and makes the tool easy to use. I appreciate how it organizes calls and its structure, and the UI feels very smooth. It's lightweight, allowing me to organize folders according to my convenience. The initial setup is pretty easy, and even a beginner can set it up.

**What do you dislike about Bruno?**

NA

**What problems is Bruno solving and how is that benefiting you?**

 ### 2. Strengthening QA Through Automated API Testing

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mittal S. | QA Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 18, 2026

**What do you like best about Bruno?**

Simple syntax – Requests are easy to read and edit. Bruno stores API collections as plain text files on your filesystem instead of inside a cloud workspace.

**What do you dislike about Bruno?**

Bruno is powerful, but: Less community content (templates, tutorials, public collections)

**What problems is Bruno solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As QA, it’s helping you:

Create automated API regression suites.
Validate backend logic without depending on frontend readiness

 ### 3. Bruno is a great open-source alternative, but there's a few quality-of-life options missing

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aryaman B. | Packaged App Development Associate, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Bruno?**

Bruno is open source; my company uses it for hitting API endpoints in different environments. It's easy to use and pick up. It's a great free alternative to Postman. It's relatively light on memory usage. You can bring your Postman Collections and OpenAPI collections to Bruno without any translation required.

**What do you dislike about Bruno?**

I don't like that you can't move the position of tabs in Bruno, so you constantly need to click on the left and right arrow buttons to navigate between tabs. There's also a slight problem that you can't search for variables in your environment - you need to manually scan a list to find your variable of choice. I also do not like the fact that Bruno collections often fail to get imported

**What problems is Bruno solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In my current job, I am required to constantly hit API's so that I can see the values of the objects that we are testing. For example, I need to hit an API constantly to check if the value of the mobile_number variable has been updated or not. For these sorts of purposes, Bruno is pretty reliable and beneficial - it is free, clean software. It has a light and dark mode UI and the UI is pleasing to the eye. It also has a sandbox mode where JavaScript code is executed in a secure sandbox and cannot access your filesystem or execute system commands. I don't personally use this feature, but it might come in handy to others
