Cloudtrail is an great auditing tool (unlike Cloudwatch which is the monitoring tool - hint for anyone taking their AWS exams as this often comes up). As an audit tool and a web service, it is more granular and logs every API activity across your AWS Services. The granularity of the logs makes it useful for doing a deep dive into your AWS service (s). The log shows user, date, IP Address, so all you really need.
