It is a very light tool with all the most useful features required to develop code for Arduino and other embedded platforms such as ESP8266. What do you dislike about Arduino IDE? Lack of integration with version control software (e.g., SVN) and source code repositories (such as GIT). Beyond that, there is a lot of support for many Arduino-style microcontrollers, with many configuration options. Not to mention the ability to add new libraries, as well as Serial monitoring, example code, and more, the Arduino IDE is solid. I've not come across anything with the Arduino IDE that I don't like. It has done everything I've ever needed, and then some. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Recommendations to others considering Arduino IDE: If you are looking to code any official Arduino, Arduino-like board (Adafruit Feather, Circuit Playground, etc), or ATTINY chips, then the Arduino IDE definitely is the program for you. Something to bear in mind, though, is that this IDE is not like a Notepad++ or Microsoft Code. It is purpose-built for coding and uploading to Arduino-based chips and boards. It is not good if you are looking for a program that can handle several languages (ie. JavaScript, HTML, Perl, etc). Being Arduino-based, it is a C++ IDE. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What problems is Arduino IDE solving and how is that benefiting you? My primary use of the Arduino IDE is to code Arduino UNO. One nice feature of the Arduino IDE is the ability to burn a bootloader, which in turn allows for the use of various ATTINY controllers (such as ATTINY 85). Projects I code for are mostly LED-based but also include servos, a variety of sensors (ultrasonic, IR/breakbeam, capacative touch, and more), plus I've integrated audio on multiple occasions. Arduino was one of the first things because of which I entered the semiconductor industry. I used Arduino during my college days; I constructed various projects using Arduino UNO, Dew. The more I learned about it, the more I fell into love with electronics. I owe my success to Arduino. Coming to the software, Arduino IDE is used to program Arduino. The primary language used is C-based. I love how it supports different baud rates so that PC and Arduino can get in sync. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Arduino IDE? The lack of proper documentation by the Arduino developers itself made my learning curve a lot more linear than exponential. Arduino is a great software to use and a great microcontroller, but the lack of a proper application document has made it a lot more challenging to use it. It does not have similar support as Raspberry Pi; I feel it needs to be more marketed. The most hated thing that I observed in Arduino was its lack of performing multi-threading/parallel processes in most of its Arduinos. Arduino Dew is capable of performing parallel processing, but it can not due to development limitations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. It is a beautiful microcontroller that gives an insight into what we can achieve if we step into electronics. I learned various industry-level protocols like UART, I2C, and SPI while using Arduino in my college. I didn't know how vital these protocols were at that time. If the developers work a little more in improving documentation and pipelining availability, they can make an outstanding product that is already in the excellent category.
