"Powerful for Engineering, But Demands High Specs"
What do you like best about MicroStation?

I like that most of the commands in MicroStation can be set manually, which helps us use minimal time to finish the work. I appreciate the ability to create custom shortcuts using manual 'key-ins' for initiating complex commands without searching through menus. Another great feature is using rendering tools to take model graphics pictures, which are impressive for clients. The integration of Google's photorealistic 3D tiles allows placing designs within a high-resolution 3D mesh of the actual project site, providing clients with immediate real-world context. The software also allows for quick generation of final images and impressive animation. Installing and setting up the software is easy after downloading a small initial file from the Bentley software portal. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about MicroStation?

New users often find the interface difficult to navigate compared to more modern CAD software. The default keyboard shortcuts can be cumbersome and difficult to remember. This software is demanding on hardware, needing a high-end graphics card for optimal performance, which sometimes makes it slow. Many clicks are required to complete commands compared to other software, leading to click-heaviness. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Superior Drafting Tools Make MicroStation a Joy for Electrical Projects"
What do you like best about MicroStation?

I enjoy drafting my electrical projects in MicroStation. I particularly like how drawing lines works, especially when compared to AutoCAD. The copy, rotate, and move options in MicroStation are also really good and, in my experience, better than those in AutoCAD. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about MicroStation?

The layer properties are a bit more difficult to use compared to AutoCAD. Instead of using commands, everything is handled through buttons, which can make it challenging at times to find the right one. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Robust Handling for Complex Projects, But Needs Standard Updates"
What do you like best about MicroStation?

I really like MicroStation's handling capacity. It's crucial for dealing with massive complex infrastructure projects like the one I'm working on, Snowy 2.0. The robustness of the 3D modeling is impressive, delivering very high quality. Its interoperability is also a top feature, making it very user-friendly and simple for my needs. It enhances drafts and ensures that the application is straightforward for team use and project success. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about MicroStation?

What doesn't work well is it's a little bit inconsistent towards the latest standards. For me, it's Australian standards, and sometimes the files are getting outdated. It's not clear on the training that it is supposed to have. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about MicroStation?

I like MicroStation for its stability, precision, and flexibility, which are crucial in managing large-scale infrastructure drawings efficiently. Its ability to handle large and complex models without crashing is invaluable to me. The precision of MicroStation assures that my projects are accurate, and its flexibility allows for easy modifications. I appreciate the powerful referencing and level management tools that simplify the management of linked drawings, keeping my projects organized and efficient. The snapping tools in MicroStation ensure fast and accurate drafting, which is essential for my work. Its compatibility with DWG and IFC files makes collaboration seamless, especially when working with other platforms like AutoCAD and Revit. Overall, MicroStation’s stability and excellent graphic performance ensure that my experience working on infrastructure and structural design projects is smooth and productive. What do you dislike about MicroStation?

I find MicroStation to be powerful but with a steep learning curve, which can be challenging for new users. The interface feels somewhat dated, and the BIM/cloud integration could be smoother. Specifically, I wish for a more modern and intuitive interface with simpler tool organization. Improved integration with BIM software like Revit and cloud platforms such as ProjectWise or ACC would greatly enhance collaboration and data exchange. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful Data Integration and Modeling, But Steep Learning Curve"
What do you like best about MicroStation?

Powerful Interoperability and Data Integration: MicroStation is known for its ability to seamlessly work with a vast array of file formats—including native DGN, DWG, DXF, and GIS data—without needing time-consuming conversions. This makes it a great "data integrator" that streamlines collaboration across different teams and software platforms.

Comprehensive 2D and 3D Modeling in a Single Environment: It allows professionals to handle both precise 2D drafting and sophisticated 3D parametric modeling within the same application. This all-in-one approach consolidates workflows and ensures consistency from initial design to final documentation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about MicroStation?

Steep Learning Curve - especially those transitioning from AutoCAD, find the interface and workflow less intuitive and the commands to be more complex or "clunky" for simple tasks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Versatile CAD Tool with Great Compatibility, Minor Interface Learning Curve"
What do you like best about MicroStation?

I have used this software for over a year working both as an architectural and electrical designer, and what I like most is its compatibility with other CAD softwares and its versatility to create both 3D and 2D objects and at the same time it serves as tool for topographic surveys. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about MicroStation?

The are not much things to dislike, but if I had to make a pros and cons analysis, I would say it was difficult for me particularly to get used to the user interface, since I have been using AutoDesk products for a long time, but I could manage the menus quickly after some time. "Hotkeys Speed Up Workflow, Great Compatibility with AutoCAD Files"
What do you like best about MicroStation?

I like the hot button keys that make it very fast and quick to switch between drafting tools and make updates. The compatibility with other drawing file types like AutoCAD make it easier to provide edits for clients in a format they prefer. The reference attachment feature is also very nice to have where you can have a main base file and reference it into multiple drawings rather than recreating it and if anything changes in the base file, it will automatically get updated in the drawings wherever it is referenced. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about MicroStation?

It can be difficult sometimes understanding how certain tools or preference work, especially when it comes to dimension and scaling of units. Also the disassociation tool when breaking up continuous dimension lines should have an option to break it into singular lines. Also sometimes it is difficult to use the angle dimension when you want the arrows inside or outside the dimension no matter what and have the text either rotated horizontally or vertically no matter the angle at which the dimension text leader is being pulled out at from the angle.
