## Krita Reviews
  ### 1. Krita: Powerful Free Art Tools with a Beginner-Friendly Interface

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sujay Chowdhary D. | Statics and Social Media Head, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Krita?**

I’ve been using Krita for a while now and it’s honestly one of the best free art programs out there. It has a huge variety of brushes and professional tools available for free, and the interface is clean and easy to learn even for beginners.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

Krita offers a lot of free brushes and useful tools, but I personally found that it takes some time to get fully comfortable with all the settings. While the interface is good overall, a few features could be organized better to make the workflow smoother.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Krita solves the problem of expensive digital art software by offering free professional brushes, tools, animation features, and an easy-to-use interface for artists and beginners.

  ### 2. Krita makes it easy. Personalization and creativity in one place

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Krita?**

I often work with high quality visual content to illustrate concepts and for this I use Krita because of its high level of customization and because it offers a natural and fluid digital painting experience. It has ample flexibility in customizing brushes and textures to make detailed illustrations and develop explanatory material with different artistic styles; and the color palette has an intuitive blending system making digital creation much more immersive and realistic.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

To be honest Krita fulfills everything I need, it even works surprisingly well on low–performance devices which is a plus in accessibility for the wider user community.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As for my process for developing illustrations and educational graphics Krita has brought speed to it; its interface is customizable and allows me to organize my workspace as I need it whether I'm designing explanatory diagrams, illustrations for educational material or content for my social media.

  ### 3. Best Open Source alternative to Photoshop

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aaditya T. | Management Intern, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 07, 2024

**What do you like best about Krita?**

Everything about Krita is just so amazing. I've been using it regularly to edit my photos or design logos. All the tools and web plugins allow users to design whatever they want. I even call it Photoshop Killer. I've had an Adobe Photoshop license but I find Krita so much easier to use that I never got it renewed. The documentation is so well written.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

Being an open source software it comes with its own disadvantages, some tools that are really required by some top professionals are not available to use or some tools are not as fine as Adobe but that difference is so little that it wouldn't even be noticed by a regular user

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Krita being an open source software has cut down my expenses to none by preventing me from buying Adobe or any other software for absurd prices as it fulfills my day-to-day requirement and I believe it's the best free software out in the market that can be used by 90% of the people out there for their everyday lives.

The best thing about Krita is its intuitive layout and vast array of brushes. Its animation capabilities are also some of the best I've seen, especially in a completely free and open-source product.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

The one thing that Krita lacks is the number of people using it; it doesn't have a big community and that can be a problem if you run into a problem or you are trying to learn how to master Krita.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Krita helps me with my advertising videos as well as logos and other image editing use cases. I mainly use it to make thumbnails for my youtube channel and featured images for the articles on my website. I also use it to make some quick logos for my youtube channel and website.

  ### 10. Excellent open source image editor!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aileen Z. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 24, 2020

**What do you like best about Krita?**

Krita is an excellent image editor and is very useful for preparing the images for our posts. It is straightforward to use, really intuitive, and its features and tools offer all the options we could ever need.

Also, Krita allows us to customize the entire interface so that I can put my favorite tools in an accessible place. It has many easily configurable options, even with the right-click, which helps save time in editing.

Furthermore, it is quite light software, so I can edit images without experiencing lag, and being compatible with practically any format, I can export my work as I need it.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

It is an open-source program, which implies that anyone can use it for free, but this has a negative part, and that is that it continually has updates that can bring usability problems (although it is not frequent).

On the other hand, although it has many functions and tools, some are still missing, such as the draft funds, but someday they will include it.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

If you need to make image edits but cannot pay for other programs' licenses, Krita is an excellent option. When you use it, you will notice that it has many tools that will allow you to edit any image like a professional, easily and quickly.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We need to edit simple images continually, but other programs' licenses increased our budget, so Krita became the perfect option to solve all our problems.

It is a great editor that allows us to make the designs we need, and we can also export the final art in any format without problems. It is an application simple to use, flexible, intuitive, and quite powerful when it comes to editing. So I always recommend it to my contacts.

**What do you like best about Krita?**

Krita really is very option to have it as the editing program that one used, it is completely free so there is no excuse for not using it, it has a very easy to use interface so it has everything at a glance, it has many options at the time of the edition so everything can be customized. I like that even if you are new to the world of simple digital painting, like me; Krita is a good tool for us. It is easy to have and works well. It also has good performance on any pc with tools that can be modified.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

Although it is a positive point it is constantly updating and correcting problems, but when they arrive they usually bring more errors than the past ones, a situation that is solved in a short time; Although at the moment it is cumbersome and more and you have a project on the way.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

My recommendation goes mainly to all those beginners with the issue of editing and design, it is worth trying and evolve in this world on your own, discover and research to gain more knowledge. That the lack of knowledge in design does not stop your creativity.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it as my personal editing program, it is ideal for users like me who do not have much experience or knowledge in the field of design it is easy to use and make projects that look quality and professional.

Kid and adult friendly. I use this in my bakery when a kid wants to draw his own cake. The intro image is a cute drawing and that immediately draws their interest. Then we can import an image from a USB or start free drawing with any of the tools, normally a really cute design is achieved in less than 5 minutes. It's also free software so no charge at all but I made a donation since this software is so useful.

Nothing at all. It's kind of sad that this software is not well known, it's easy to use and really cute.

Pencils. Krita's pencils are by far the best tools you can find in a digital drawing software. The softness it's similar to the real ones, and the stroke it's straight, regular, without any flaw. This is a great feature for whoevere, like me, prefers to start the drawing project in digital instead then sketching on paper and scan

sometimes the software uses a lot of ram and start to lag a bit. I guess, the hardware requirements could be improved

it's the best free drawing software on the place, it's a powerful tool and could easy win the comparison with other drawing programs such as Clip Studio Paint.

  ### 17. For Drawing in a Breeze

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Avril P. | Owner - Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2019

**What do you like best about Krita?**

This software is a wonder to be able to create drawings and get the most out of your wacom tablet. It seems perfectly designed to take advantage of the functions of your tablet and touch pen, since the program responds perfectly to the pressure, angle and speed of the pencil and adapts perfectly to your style as a draftsman.
One of the things that most caught my attention when they told me about Krita was the possibility of using it to simulate the textures and mixing modes of the different tools that it incorporates, such as the brush, the oil brush, markers, watercolors, airbrush, rake, graphite pencil, colored pencils, wax pencils, and other infinity of real-world drawing and art materials that are masterfully simulated by Krita. The variety of effects you can achieve is truly impressive.
It is amazing that a program like this is free, taking into account that even Photoshop, which is quite expensive, offers you so much versatility when it comes to creating strokes with your drawing tablet.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

What I do not like, maybe it is not a defect of Krita, but rather what differentiates it from Photoshop. It is missing filters and layer styles that you do have in other design programs. But again, Krita is for drawing and painting and not for retouching photographs or making special effects on images.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

Remember that Krita is a free program that offers powerful tools that even very expensive payment programs do not offer, so I recommend downloading the program, enjoy it for a while, and if you are satisfied, how do I know it will, leave a donation to the great software team that gave us this program.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In my work, Krita allows me to create sketches, drawings, linearts and conceptual ideas for characters that I can easily transfer to my clients. I can also make landscape drawings easily and quickly thanks to the styles of brushes and materials such as oil or watercolors. All without sacrificing the power of my computer, thanks to Krita is a very light program and designed to optimize the hardware resources of your computer.

  ### 18. Krita, erstelle professionelle Skizzen

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Melody C. | Sales Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 20, 2019

**What do you like best about Krita?**

Krita is a fork of Gimp, created to design sketches, paintings, or inventive emblems for organizations or web layouts as we use it in the company. The application is free and open source, continuing to be multi-platform (home Windows, Linux, and Mac). Our main use of Krita is the creation of logos and price ranges on the websites created by our crew.

Other excellent features of Krita:
+ The software could be very stable, in all versions (Windows, Linux, Mac)
+ A lot of documentation allows its community to learn how to do all kinds of things with Krita.
+ Krita supports a large number of codecs from other applications like Photoshop or GIMP
+ A large number of brushes and plugins that you can choose from for your designs, among others
+ The several hundred very fast with an SSD drive, unlike other applications of the same type like Photoshop, Krita is very light and does not consume many resources now

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

The user interface of the utility is a bit outdated, should update it a little and upload larger descriptive icons. You could also upload some scripts by default.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

If you want to create any kind of design with artistic and professional surfaces, then choose Krita and you will not be disappointed. Krita is also free and has a large community behind it.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed an application to create logos that are more advanced than Gimp, and Krita provided it for us. The interfaces are very artistic. Additionally, Krita offers great performance for designs created on other platforms, and we can execute all sorts of things for free because Krita requires licenses.

  ### 19. Make art with this

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lloyd w. | Graphic Designer, Graphic Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 21, 2019

**What do you like best about Krita?**

Krita is free. You don't have to buy it, you don't have to rent it. It's a community project, and as a result you already "own" it to a degree that it is impossible with programs like Photoshop or others, no matter how much money you spend. Also has a lot of pixel art features such as pixel art brushes, palettes, wrap around mode! to create seamless textures and many more

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

It's not the best for pixel art. If doing realistic amiga pixel art, better off pairing with pixatool.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I dont like to spend on softwares,so Krita is an alternative to some other powerful paid editors

  ### 20. Great and underrated app

**Reviewed by:** Kyle C. | Software Engineer, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 14, 2019

**What do you like best about Krita?**

The best thing about Krita, in my opinion, after having used it for several years, is the hidden potential of this application. That is to say, at first, it is more than likely that your designs will be bad, but once you have learned how to handle the application, you will be surprised by the results, so my overall experience is positive.

The application is stable and offers various tools for creating sketches, logos, or anything you might need. A positive aspect is that it has no licensing cost, which surprised me at first because it gave me the impression of using a very professional tool.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

A negative aspect of Krita is the somewhat outdated graphical interface; in future versions, it should correct and improve this aspect.

Although the application has worked very well and I am very happy with it, the support for my graphics tablet gave me some problems due to the drivers. I don't know if it's a problem with Krita or Linux, but I solved it thanks to Krita's technical support. So I will write it here, after the help they offered me, everything works perfectly for me.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

I recommend using Krita if you are a designer, professional or not, and you are looking for a powerful application capable of creating any type of image, in addition to the fact that Krita is a free application, unlike many alternatives in this field.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

**Reviewed by:** Sandra C. | Web Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2019

**What do you like best about Krita?**

It's simple and intuitive, pretty easy to use and pretty light on memory and CPU utilization. Includes a python scripting feature that is really fun to tinker with. I have not made a plugin yet but probably will soon.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

For a free program this over-delivers, I can't really complain of anything

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

Unless you are a professional graphic designer there is a good chance this program has everything you need for image edition.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A lot more powerful than paint but as easy to use and for my needs as powerful as photoshop but a lot easier to use.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

It's not that popular, it's a fantastic software but I only found it after a colleague recommended this to me after I complained that Photoshop and GIMP were unnecessarily hard for what I need. Needs a lot more visibility.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

If you need to light image edition this is the best software available for Windows.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Editing images and metadata and exporting them to the formats I need to use.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Yussef J. | Traductor de subtítulos, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Krita?**

I have searched and tried several alternatives to Photoshop, without one of them completely convincing me, until I met Krita. This program was already available for some time to install on Windows computers, and I must admit that it is the most complete I have found so far.

It is ideal to create raster drawings thanks to the large number of brushes and options to smooth the layout, which will make drawing with a drawing tablet a pleasure. And this is one aspect that far surpasses Photoshop.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

Although it is considered to be a replacement for Photoshop, it lacks some keyboard shortcuts and options that we are very used to using in it. For example, some layer options that you would think are universal in this kind of software solutions are not available. But the good thing is that you can export your creations in PSD format and continue in Photoshop or other software.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

If you are looking for a free alternative to Photoshop and with many and more powerful options to draw and make the most of your Wacom tablet. Krita will exceed your expectations for its versatility and surprising options.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a program for drawing, illustrating and sketching, it is far superior to Photoshop for its extensive variety of brushes.

On the other hand, being free as it is, you do not need to worry about your budget to use it.
In addition, it is compatible with all design programs, so you can export your creations and continue working on the platform that your clients require.

  ### 26. Create art with Krita

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael W. | Web Designer, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 26, 2019

**What do you like best about Krita?**

Krita is a fork of Gimpe, designed to create sketches, paintings, or artistic logos for companies or web design, as we use it in the company.

The application is, of course, completely free and open source in addition to being multi-platform (Windows, Linux, and Mac). Krita is mainly used for creating logos and backgrounds on the websites created by our team.

About Krita:
- The application is very stable in its latest versions
- The end result is incredible if you get to know the application properly
- A variety of documentation on how to accomplish anything possible with Krita on the internet
- The application supports a variety of formats like xcf, psd, or png
- Large number of brushes to choose from and use in your designs
- The application loads very quickly. Unlike other applications of the same type, Krita is very lightweight and does not consume much CPU or RAM

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

The user interface of the application is somewhat outdated, should be updated a bit, and add more descriptive icons. You can also add some scripts by default.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

If you want to design with artistic and professional finishes, choose Krita and you will not be disappointed. Krita is also free and has a large community behind it. Krita is very lightweight and does not consume much RAM.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed an application to create logos that are a bit more advanced than Gimp. Krita has provided it to us, the interfaces are very artistic.

  ### 27. Great, but underrated application

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brian T. | Web Designer, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 23, 2019

**What do you like best about Krita?**

The best of Krita in my opinion after having used it for several years is the hidden potential of this application, that is, at the beginning it is more than likely that your designs are bad but once you learned how to handle the application, you will be surprised with the results so my experience in general is positive.

The application is stable is available several tools for the creation of sketches, logos or anything you may need. A positive aspect is that it has no license cost which surprised me at first because it gave me the impression of being using a very professional tool (except maybe its somewhat old-fashioned interface)

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

A negative aspect of Krita is the graphical interface somewhat outdated, in future versions should correct it and improve this aspect.

Although the application has worked very well and I am very happy with it the support for my graphic tablet gave me some problems because of the drivers, I do not know if it is a problem of Krita or Linux but I solve it thanks to the technical support of Krita so I will write it here, after the help they offered me everything works perfectly for me.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

I recommend using Krita if you are a designer, professional or not, and you are looking for a powerful application capable of creating any type of image, besides Krita is a free application unlike many alternatives in this field.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mainly I am using Krita for the design of sketches and web logos, the result is very positive and I am very content with the application, especially because once you learn to use it your efficiency and speed increases considerably.

  ### 28. Krita a powerful alternative to photoshop

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gregory S. | Graphic Designer, Design, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 13, 2019

**What do you like best about Krita?**

2 years ago I made Krita my professional image editor by default, leaving aside other options that cost a lot of money on licenses. After having learned to handle krita, the results of my work are the same as with the previous software I used but without the extra cost.

I liked Krita that has a great facility to recognize the last generation graphic tablets, working without configuring anything.

Technically it is a software very similar to Gimp (it is a fork) so it inherits many features and a lot of good things (and some bad that I will comment later)

The characteristics that make Krita a great option:
- Stable software
- Great finishes in your works
- No licenses or costs
- Support for last generation graphic cards
- Application that works in Windows and Linux (Both I have tried and they are the same)
- Limited consumption of CPU and RAM resources
- Support for plugins (inherited from GIMP)
- Many brushes and tools for drawing

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

Although in general I love Krita I have seen some things that could be improved in the future, from my point of view.

What is not so good about Krita:
- The graphical interface looks old, it would be fantastic a krita that is visually beautiful
- I have had problems loading some type of file (it is solved exporting to another format)

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

I really consider you using Krita if you are looking for a powerful tool that does not carry additional licensing costs. People tend to think that because software is free, it will be worse, but I assure you that this is not the case, Krita is a very professional software.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed an application that was powerful for the creation of images and that was open source and free, because the cost of licensing the alternatives was too high.

  ### 29. Krita, An awesome alternative

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Darrel S. | Graphic Designer, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 07, 2019

**What do you like best about Krita?**

I was using Krita in my company for a long time and it seemed like a very competent drawing tool to be completely free.

The results of all my designs with krita are very good and artistic because once you have learned to handle krita completely it is an incrible tool.Technically the software is very stable, I have never lost a job because of krita, its
interface although it is not its strong point, it is similar to GIMP.

- Works in the three main operating systems (Windows, Linux , MAC)
- Powerful free tool, our logos look great!
- Open source with great support community
- Very fast loading large templates (Especially if you install it in an SSD)

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

What I do not like about Krita or I think they should improve in later versions:

- The interface should be improved, it looks too old
- The icons of the drawing tools should be more descriptive

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

I recommend that you use Krita if you need a powerful alternative to other design or payment applications, with Krita you do not have to pay any license. Also i recommend that you read the documentation if you have doubts about how to use Krita and learn the shortcuts to design much faster.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With Krita we create our web designs, especially business logos with very good results. Also thanks to Krita we do not pay for licenses because it's free.

  ### 30. Great tool for image design

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Wilfred M. | Design Engineer, Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 10, 2019

**What do you like best about Krita?**

We have been working together with Krita and Gimp for a long time in our company and we are very happy with the professional results obtained with this great application. Krita is as good as any other payment application, even superior to many of the ones I've tried. Creating sketches with Krita is not an easy task because it has a very high learning curve but thanks to the documentation and to the community you can learn to develop in a few days, then the results are impressive.

The best thing about this application is:
- In the office, everyone chooses their favorite OS, so using Krita is not a problem because it is multiplatform and supports Windows and Linux
- Support for images created in formats of other applications that are not Krita, for example .PSD of photoshop.
- Krita is very stable, with other applications when opening large templates, or it could result in a crash of the application

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

Some older graphics tablets can cause problems if you do not use certain drivers under Linux, Windows is totally fine. Also they can improve the icon theme to look more descriptive.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

I recommend Krita if you are looking for a free and professional alternative to create your sketches. I assure you that the sketches of Krita's are very professional.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have used many image design applications over several years and none of us ended up being convinced because they always had some defect, so we stayed until we found Krita that had all the virtues of other applications and was free.

  ### 31. Krita, an artistic design tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Annette M. | Web Designer, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2019

**What do you like best about Krita?**

It is an application that works easily with digitizing tablets, simply plugging in our device already recognizes it. Personally I use the application under the Windows10 operating system at work and under Linux at home. Both systems work in the same way with Krita so it can be said that both versions are compiled in the same way.

As for artistic creation, Krita, is an application that is at the level of Photoshop, in some cases I would say that it is even superior, personally I prefer to use Krita since the tool is completely free and the results are very similar, plus once you you usually use the application, it is very quick and easy to create the sketches and any type of images. The interface has improved a lot in the latest updates so that by changing the theme for one of the options offered from the options menu we can have an aesthetically attractive application.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

It is not something negative since it happens with all the applications but maybe in Krita the learning curve is somewhat high, personally at first it cost me enough to adapt to the application so I lost a lot of time in the designs, after a while and of reading documentation I have improved a lot.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

The recommendation that I make to people who are looking for an alternative to Photoshop is to take the step and try the application, in my company at the beginning cost take the step because we lost some time learning to use the application but once we did we saved a lot money and now we do the same job and at the same speed.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main problem we had was that we lost almost the entire budget of the department in Photoshop licenses since they are very expensive so we started looking for a cheaper alternative and luckily we found Krita to be totally free. Luckily the application can do exactly the same tasks that we did before so we are saving money that we can use in other things.

  ### 32. Creating art with Krita

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Krita?**

Krita is a fork of gimp created to design sketches, paintings or artistic logos for companies or web design as we use it in the company.

The application of course is completely free and open source in addition to multi platform (Windows, Linux and Mac). Our main use of krita is the creation of logos and funds in the web pages created by our team.

About krita:
- The application is very stable in its latest versions
- The final finishes are incredible once you learn to use the application correctly
- A lot of documentation on how to do all kinds of things with krita available on the internet
- The application supports a large number of formats such as xcf, psd or png
- Large amount of brushes to choose and use in your designs
- The application loads very fast unlike other applications of the same type, Krita is very light and does not consume much CPU or RAM

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

The interface of the application is a little outdated, should update a little and add more descriptive icons. They could also add some scripts by default.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

If you want to create any type of design with artistic and professional finishes then choose Krita and you will not be disappointed. Krita is also free and has a large community behind.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed an application to create logos something more advanced than gimp and Krita gave it to us, the finishes are very artistic.

  ### 33. If you are an artist, Krita is for you.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Charles O. | Web Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 02, 2019

**What do you like best about Krita?**

I work remotely for my company making sketches for web design, I have used krita for a long time and I am very satisfied with the results I have obtained in all this time.

Krita is very powerful once you learn to use it with all your keyboard shortcuts you increase the speed enormously. Technically Krita has improved a lot compared to previous versions and now it is a very stable, fast and reliable application.

We liked Krita which is a free and open source application with a lot of documentation available on the internet, so although the learning curve is high, you can learn to do simple and beautiful things in a short time. It also supports third-party plugins.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

The previous versions of krita were a little unstable but this has been solved, the only negative aspect nowadays is that its interface, specifically the icons are not very descriptive.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

Krita is one of the few drawing tools that is offered for free, if you need to save costs, Krita is your best ally. I recommend you to be patient because the process of learning in krita is not fast but if you use the documentation it will not be difficult

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I needed a free tool that could be executed in different operating systems, which was also stable and powerful in the drawing. In Krita we have found everything we were looking for, so our needs are covered.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

It takes time to learn the software but once you've put your time in it youll get a hang of it,it also has some bugs and glitches that i often encounter.

  ### 38. Krita: the reference for digital painting

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 06, 2019

**What do you like best about Krita?**

There are many advantages in Krita, but I mainly love it because:

- It is free, open and quick. This characteristic is essential when you compare it with ArtRage.

- It provides some possibilities that other programs (like Photoshop do not). Yes, I know that Photoshop is designed for digital photography edition. Instead, I like the Krita's ability to create digital artwork using a vast set of brushes with many advanced options (pressure, tilt, pressure, rotation...9 engines in total)

- I like use Krita with a tablet, instead of Photoshop or Gimp which I always use with a mouse.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

There are few disadvantages I can find in Krita:

- Perhaps, I would like that Krita incorporates deeper digital tablet support.

- Another problem is that does not support support SVG 2 (for example, mesh gradients)

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

If you are considering to becoming a digital artist or you are already an artist but you are searching for a free and almost professional tool for your desings, Krita is your solution, better than Paint.net, Gimp, Photoshop or Gravit, in my opinion, for artistic developments.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Overall, Krita is a helpful tool for all those who are trying to desing digital art and create animations, but I use it to create backgrounds, hand-painted cover pages, title pages and drawings for e-learning courses.

  ### 39. Painting is beautiful with krita!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Design | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 31, 2019

**What do you like best about Krita?**

We really like the power of krita, we use it to create big canvas and we printed them to use it in different promotions and publicity. Krita it's also a stability rock you would never will see crashing o hanging.

Another good thing about krita is that it barely consume resources from your computer, i've never saw it above 1 gigabyte of ram.

More positive things about krita:
- Huge collection of brushers
- Support for RAW, PNG, JPEG, BMP and PSD formats
- it is a fork from gimp
- By using it you are supporting a community of people that works just for free
- We can create professional design and images without paying a single dollar!
- Open source
- Multi platform (Linux, Windows and Mac are supported)

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

Since it is a fork from gimp the look and feel from krita is clearly outdated. It is a bit weird that the create such a nice program that can product awesome design and the app itself looks so old.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

Check the online tutorials if you need! You can also can ask the community for help, there is a lot of people willing to help you!

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We do not have to use expensive programs anymore to design for our customers and we benefit from it saving money not just from using krita but thanks to it we are no longer forced to use Windows.

  ### 40. Good application for drawing.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** HENRY N. | Professional Photographer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 08, 2019

**What do you like best about Krita?**

It is free, it is not heavy, it has specialized drawing brushes, it is compatible with Windows and other operating systems, it is available in several languages.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

It takes a while to open and save the changes in the images.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

I recommend the implementation of Krita, because it is a novel application with great potential for the artistic branch.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Krita every time I need to retouch my photography, because it has some specialized brushes for that purpose, which are not available in any other application known to me, that's why its benefit is unbeatable.

  ### 41. Bugs make it more trouble than it's worth

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert G. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 10, 2018

**What do you like best about Krita?**

Krita has a good selection of tools, and is fairly straightforward to use.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

I originally installed this to do illustration with, but a host of random bugs have made the work so difficult and frustrating that I have decided to switch to using photoshop instead. Mainly, it has a tendency to crash and freeze the screen, forcing me to close the application and somehow losing all autosaves of the file at the same time. I've probably lost at least fifteen hours of work at this point from whatever bug this is, and I have tried and tried with no avail to fix it, but I've put up with it since I only have experience with krita and switching to something new would mean relearning everything. I am now switching though since it's gotten bad enough that the price is worth paying.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

Use photoshop or Sai instead

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

n/a

  ### 42. Constant performance issues.

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Giovana L. | Graphic Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 01, 2019

**What do you like best about Krita?**

Krita has the minimum requirements I want in a drawing software: brush smoothing, advanced brush customization and the ability to flip and mirror an drawing quickly.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

Sadly, Krita fails in the performance requirement, slowdowns and sharp corners are constantly when doing fast strokes and all those bugs happened in the best conditions for a program to run. I could say my computer is the problem, but other drawing programs run perfectly even when I have multiple programs opened, such as music player and browser.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

I understand Krita is open-source and bugs are bound to happen, but for now, it's not worth investing time.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None

  ### 43. Bit of a learning curve, but a fun and powerful program.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dustin K. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2018

**What do you like best about Krita?**

Brush Stabilizer.... without it I could not create anything using this program for my company. The UI is very easy to use once you learn where and how everything is. Options.... I LOVE options! On a personal note I really like the comic templates.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

I have had the program crash on me a few times, however this is due to the computers at work i'm sure. I wish there was a pressure sensitivity support. I use the swiftpoint Z mouse and this feature would be beyond perfect for me.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

worth the learning curve, because there is so many cool things you can do. I'm no artist, however this program makes me look like one :D

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it for graphics and animations for other programs such as power point. I make comics when no one is looking ;P

  ### 44. Krita has functions rivaling Adobe Photoshop, with a free price tag

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Design | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 23, 2019

**What do you like best about Krita?**

Krita has many functions that you can also find in Photoshop (a much more expensive program). One of which is gradients, you're fully able to select the angle and location of the gradient. Gradients are a very helpful tool that aren't found in most other full-price programs like ProCreate. There is a large variety of brush tools that once you get the hang of, can product excellent sketches and finished pieces. There is a full color wheel and sizes and opacity settings are also available.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

During my first few uses of Krita, there was an extreme lag that made the product unusable at first. After researching online, I found that going into the settings, then configure krita, and then un-checking the pre-checked box labeled "OpenGL," the program should fix the lag. This was almost a deal-breaker for me, but I'm glad there's a solution. The layout can be overwhelming at first, especially with how many different brush settings there are.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

Krita is an excellent tool for artists who need to save money but still need a way to color and design. Make sure you research the lag program and fix it so you can enjoy this program!

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Because Krita is free and accessible to anyone and everyone, this makes collaborative work very easy. Whether its another designer I'm working with from my client or the client adding ideas to the piece directly, another person can easily build upon what I've created using Krita themselves, after I share the Krita work in progress file.

  ### 45. Krita Review - A good free alternative

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gabriela L. | Designer gráfico, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 17, 2018

**What do you like best about Krita?**

- Wide selection of brushes
- Brush Stabilizers
- Clean GUI
- Free and Open-Source

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

Sometimes performance issues can happen, you may need to change how much resource Krita uses, stabilizer configuration could be simplified.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

It's a free and open source program so it's easy to test. It may take some time to get used to the program and its hotkeys, you can also search for videos showcasing Krita potential and tutorials on how to configure brushes, use some tools, how to make animation, etc.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use to create illustrations and to practice figure drawing in my spare time.

  ### 46. For lovers of painting, we have a good digital option !!!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Luis B. | Diseñador gráfico, Graphic Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 31, 2018

**What do you like best about Krita?**

It is free software and with enough potential to create quality images.

Krita has it all, it has allowed me to work in layers, apply filters, use brushes and use colors.

I really like that it supports different formats such as RAW, PSD, PNG, JPEG and BMP, it is also possible to export the files in a large number of formats.

Krita has brushes for all tastes, so that our paintings are amazing

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

The only important tools that Krita does not have is Clone with perspective

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

I recommend it to everyone. Krita is a powerful tool for editing and designing images, it's free and with enough potential to create quality images.

It has an easy-to-use interface, a variety of brushes, allows easy color management and has a variety of filters and effects.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Krita mostly in my free time to paint and I have also used it in my work to edit or retouch some images. I always look for different editors and design software and I have added Krita to my favorites list because it is very practical and complete.

  ### 47. One of the best digital painting software, all for free

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrea G. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2018

**What do you like best about Krita?**

It would be easy to say "its price", since it's free and open-source, but the truth is that Krita's strongest point is that it's actually a great, great tool for digital painting: tt's nothing short of awesome.
Some would name Photoshop, Procreate, Clip studio paint and PaintTool SAI, but I stick with Krita, plus it's got a big and colorful community to share ideas, brushes and whatnot.
Plus, it's multi-platform, so you can rock on with you Linux distro.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

At the moment, nothing. Krita has a LOT of realistic brushes, layers, vector shapes, the ability to rotate and mirror the canvas to spot errors... There really is nothing to dislike, IMHO.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

It's a great, multi-platform, open-source, free digital painting program, and it's been getting better every year. It won't let you down anytime soon.
You're probably already using something very similar for which you may be paying a monthly subscriptions, so, why not give Krita a chance?

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With Krita I can forget about licenses and subscriptions, it's free, always will be, and it's powerful. Plus, it can be used on multiple platforms, not only Windows or Mac. As a linux user, it's something I'm grateful for.

**What do you like best about Krita?**

It's got a lot of easy to use features that rival the big hitters out there. Lots of paint tools for almost every need.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

Isn't as feature or tool heavy as say GIMP or Photoshop.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

If you need a cheaper alternative for just digital painting, Krita is the program for you!

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's a great lightweight program for any smaller painting jobs I need to get done quickly. Easy to use UI and it is pretty quick to pick up and learn as well.

**What do you like best about Krita?**

Frankly the brush motor is very successful. you can also export gimp and photoshop brushes from the outside. There is also a paid version of the Krita gemini on steam. it also supports the tablet interface and allows you to draw from the tablet to the pc with as much as I understand. the macro drawings and you know the load is super something I think. in addition to ready-made templates for comic book drawings. pattern is very easy to do. It's fun to make patterns. also support symmetrical drawing. krita is not free alternative to any drawing program according to me. it would be unfair to criticize it.

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

Even with a good computer it is surprisingly slow for some work.

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

If you are using or planning to use a graphical tablet on linux, the krita will be a good friend.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

krita free and open source drawing program. I use Krita for macro drawings and comic book drawings or painting.

  ### 50. Powerful and Free

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Electronics | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about Krita?**

- Krita is free. This lets you try it with no demo limitations or fear of having to spend money on software that you may not like
- Krita is powerful and offers many of the features of Photoshop
- Krita has many resources. Despite being free, newbies have access to users guides and online communities to help learn and master the software
- Linux, Mac, and Windows support

**What do you dislike about Krita?**

- The UI of the software is certainly not as aesthetically pleasing as that of Photoshop (which is essentially the gold standard for image editors
- For something free, and as powerful as Krita, there is not much negative to say for most users who need an advanced image editor

**Recommendations to others considering Krita:**

If you've previously used a demo of Photoshop, or used GIMP, give this a try. It is free and robust so there's isn't much to lose. Like all image editors with many features, Krita can be intimidating. Spend some time going through the menus of the app, testing out features and effects, and don't forget to visit their website which links you to their many learning resources.

**What problems is Krita solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I mostly use Krita to make minor adjustments to images such as precise rotating, resizing, and color changes, and blurring out sensitive information for screenshots. Performing these tasks in Krita is really fast so I can work through these images quickly. With this tool, I don't need Photoshop.
