**Reviewed by:** Galib S. | Aspiring Financial Analyst and Tech Enthusiast , Financial Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

Best thing about the Duolingo is that it builds habit of learning lessons daily. It forces to learn daily by sending notifications and enabling to maintain streak.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

Thing which I dislike about Duolingo is the limited amount of energy which is 25 to learn a lesson, If you want unlimited energy you need to buy super Duolingo.
In addition to this progression to learn lessons is very slow for users who don't have super Duolingo.

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Duolingo to learn Arabic, chess and maths. It pretty much solves my problems like learning how to play chess, learn new words in arabic even though progression is slow.

 ### 2. Fun, Game-Like Learning That Never Feels Like a Chore

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Trishelle B. | Digital Learning Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 11, 2026

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

Duolingo is really fun to use. It feels like a game, even though I’m actually learning something new, whether that’s a language or chess. I genuinely enjoy using it, and it doesn’t feel like a chore at all. It’s engaging, and it’s actually teaching me something.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

I don’t have any complaints—I love it. I’m really glad they added chess, and I’d love to see even more things added in the future.

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I’m learning a new language without having to take an actual class, and it’s been a really helpful way to pick up new things. I genuinely enjoy using it, and it makes learning feel easier and more approachable.

 ### 3. Fun, Engaging, and Effective Way to Build Language Learning Habits

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Iqbal P. | Customer Onboarding & Support Executive , Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 31, 2026

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

What I like most about Duolingo is how engaging it is and how easy it makes language learning. The lessons are short and interactive, and they feel more like a game than traditional studying, which helps me stay consistent. Features like streaks, levels, and daily goals also keep my motivation high. I appreciate the clear pronunciation, the listening exercises, and the immediate feedback, which make the learning process feel practical and rewarding. Overall, it’s simple to fit into a busy schedule.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

While Duolingo is great for building the basics and helping me stay consistent, it can sometimes start to feel repetitive over time. The explanations of grammar rules don’t go very deep, so it may not be the best fit for advanced learners who want more detailed guidance. Also, the ads in the free version can be a bit distracting, even though that’s understandable given the value the platform provides.

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Duolingo addresses the challenge of making language learning both accessible and sustainable. Rather than requiring long study sessions or expensive courses, it lets you learn in small, manageable daily steps. For me, it helped me build a consistent learning habit and gradually improve my vocabulary, pronunciation, and basic sentence structure over time. Overall, it’s an effective, user-friendly platform for anyone who wants to start a new language or keep practicing consistently.

 ### 4. fun and affordable way to learn new languages

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Beryl B. | self-employed, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

It’s not hard to use, and it makes learning feel easy and simple. What I like most, though, are the stories and the speech lessons, where you repeat words in the language you’re learning.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

Now that they’ve started using AI for the audio, the quality has gone down, and it makes the learning process harder and more confusing.

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I’ll say it doesn’t exactly solve a specific problem, but it does make learning a language free (or at least cheaper) and fun. Before this, there really weren’t any free ways to learn a new language online.

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

Duolingo is very organized and does a great job at teaching languages. There's also explanations to why something is wrong and gives you a better understanding in order to improve your skills. I also like how encouraging the app is, between the Duolingo bird and it's emotional changes and the offering of freezes to continue your streak when you miss a day.

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

It is easy to use, good interface, fun to do.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

For Japanese there are few explanations about the intricacies of the language, including grammar.
There is no explanation about how and when to use polite/formal forms vs informal.
The examples are sometimes unnatural in Japanese and sometimes the English reflects the Japanese too much.
Japanese often uses 'teach' which in English should be 'show', but that is not explained.
Also why would the computer version give you 3 hearts/chances when the mobile version gives you 5?

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None yet.
The content has all been general with no option for business English situations.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rahul R. | Product Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 27, 2022

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

Duolingo is one of the best platforms to learn a new language it provides multiple questions to study the language whichever the users want to learn. It has a variety of different tools and techniques which helps you to repeat and revise everything you practice daily. It also reminds you every day to give small tests and measure your progress.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

The software is great for learning a new language but I haven't got its desktop version which can be a little difficult for pc users. I have also noticed that the app doesn't work offline and needs a good Internet connection. The app can be optimised for users a little bit by providing more relevant practice content.

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have been using this app approximately every day and give daily practice mocks to improve my English. Now I can speak good English as well as write good content too. This app has helped to remove the communication gap between me and people who speak English only. I have also recommended this app to all my employees who are interested in learning a new language and practising Duolingo.

Duolingo can help employees expand their vocabulary and keep them motivated to improve with little to no cost. It can also improve discipline and create a routine/habit.

 ### 24. I hate that they’ve changed their german program three times in three years

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Deborah S. | Behavioral and Developmental Pediatrician, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 01, 2022

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

It was good in the first version, with good instruction before you started a lesson.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

1) the instruction in the "tips" section is so poor that you would be hard pressed to actually learn German if you hadn't already had instruction.
2) they have changed their instruction model in German at least three times in the last three years. Why not at least give your paying customers the option of continuing with their current lesson format, or switching to something new. I really don't care what your research shows; I know what works for me.

Do not use this program!

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None; as far as I'm concerned, they are continually creating problems. During the last update in 2021, they did not do sufficient beta testing, and many things they marked incorrect were actually correct; they just hadn't bothered to take the time to vet their program.

 ### 25. Good experience with Duolingo

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ghazala P. | Assistant manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 07, 2022

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

Duolingo is easy to use and very useful tool for learning a language. Easy to track my learning and step by step progression is very effective. It is available in mobile app so I can keep learning on the go.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

I don't like how many ads Duolingo makes you watch between lessons. Offline learning is not possible in Duolingo. The learning interface becomes a bit repetitive, which may frustrates some users.

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Duolingo allows me to learn a language step by step from basic to advance. It is a fun learning platform which makes language learning accessible and interactive.

 ### 26. Easiest way to learn new languages

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ankit K. | Senior Project Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 30, 2022

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

It is one of the most helpful apps for those who wish to learn new languages without going anywhere. Its interface is so easy to use and good-looking. It offers flexible time and provides an excellent analysis of what we have learned till now. The best thing I like about Duolingo is it offers the Freemium version for all of its users, and they could learn the other language in their native language. It works excellently and has so many languages to learn.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

There is nothing much to be disliked about Duolingo, but I dislike the repeated question sets. It often repeats the same or many similar questions to translate, sometimes becoming boring.

**Recommendations to others considering Duolingo:**

If any of you are finding an easy way to learn English or any other language available at Duolingo, you should give it a try.

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helped me a lot to improve my English in my native language. I realized Duolingo is a beneficial app for students, working professionals, and others who face difficulties learning or working in languages other than their native language.

 ### 27. Best Kickstarter App for Beginners

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mitali K. | Editor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

Duolingo provides enough quality content free of cost. For a beginner in German language like me Duolingo has helped me develop a solid ground which is helping me a lot in my actual German course. The game-like environment and streaks make it even more fun and effortless to practice every once in a while. The 'Tips' section also provides great insight into the grammar.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

The new update has changed the course structure which has made it confusing. After reaching Unit 2, a lot of new things were added to the previous unit without any description. This has made me miss out and I cannot figure out how to continue further with the syllabus.

**Recommendations to others considering Duolingo:**

I would recommend this app to anyone who is starting with a new foreign language even if they have no prior experience. This app is free to use and has a vast community to clear your doubts as well. This will of course not be enough to master the language, but it is a great resource for independent practice.

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Duolingo is serving as a great resource to me for learning German as a foreign language with no prior experience. It gives me motivation to keep learning and makes sure I do not feel clueless in my German classes.

 ### 28. Advice: try Duolingo now

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** ZEYD T. | Adjunct Faculty Member, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 10, 2022

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

For me, Duolingo is the best program for learning any language you want, in a fun way, at the time you want.
He is happy to learn new words every day that subconsciously take root in your mind, this is the best way to learn.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

Sometimes Duolingo will give you identical options and one of them is considered wrong even though it matches the other.
True, you can discuss it and send a message informing them about it, but you will not be able to earn the full mark on the test.

**Recommendations to others considering Duolingo:**

Keep learning on Duolingo and write down everything you think is wrong in the comments for any test.

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With Duolingo, you can find out your spelling errors and find out where you are missing, speaking, writing, or reading.
I benefited a lot from my French study on Duolingo.

 ### 29. Great Supplemental Tool, for Quick Daily Reviews, But Not Enough for Dedicated Learners

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tessa A. | Consultant

**Reviewed Date:** March 09, 2022

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

It makes practicing and learning easy. If you're the kind of person that gets quickly burnt out or doesn't have a full 30 mins to dedicate to learning, it's nice.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

Its lessons and sentences just aren't practical enough for anyone who wants to truly become fluent or intermediate in a language. So basically, you think you're getting a free language learning app, but really it's a supplemental study at best. You will need to buy lessons if you actually want to learn.

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used Duolingo for French, German, and Russian. And Spanish for a bit, but barely. It is helpful to use just to keep up the habit of learning; if you're too tired or busy to dedicate study time in your day, you can use Duolingo to do a quick easy 5-10 minute mini lesson.

 ### 30. I am learning Spanish

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Seychelle D. | Writing Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 23, 2022

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

I have been using Duolingo for about a year now, and I love how I can keep going over the same lessons to refine my knowledge and review my weak areas. I am also using it in conjunction with my Spanish courses, and it is helping me out with the coursework. The other great thing is that I decide when to move on to the following lessons. I do it when I feel ready. In a traditional classroom, you have to go along with the course schedule and not feel entirely prepared. All in all, I love Duolingo and I know that you will. I love Spanish so much, and my busy schedule allows me to make some progress without living in a Spanish-speaking country.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

There is nothing to dislike. Duolingo has worked everything out. It is user-friendly for children, young adults, and people of all ages and situations.

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I understand written and spoken Spanish more and more every day. I know that I will be able to function in a Spanish-speaking country on my own pretty soon.

 ### 31. The Best Language Learning Platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Revanth G. | Procurement Analyst, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 29, 2021

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

There are many great features to speak about this application, but the best among them is, it is free for the user, where one can learn a language of his choice to the fullest. And, the learning interface they offer is unparalleled.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

There is nothing to dislike about this application, especially when it is absolutely free. However, even though they try to make language learning through pronunciation and sounds, it lacks the facility for the user to practice real-time conversation.

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have been using this application for quite a few months to learn Spanish and have to say that I am confident enough that I will be able to converse at the intermediate level in the next couple of months without assistance from native speakers.

 ### 35. Best App to Learn a New Language

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 16, 2021

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

The best feature about Duolingo is its interface, which keeps me attracted and attached to my device trying to complete every challenge. The incentive-based learning program is also very effective in learning a new language.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

There is nothing to dislike about Duolingo. The only thing is that the in-app purchases are not appreciated in an app built for educational purposes. Also the gems earned can only be used to buy outfits which really has no point to it.

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

While communicating with various client across different parts of the country and the world, it is important to have knowledge of the language spoken. Duolingo allowed me to learn that specific language all the way from basic to advanced, making sure that language is not a barrier during any formal communication.

 ### 36. A Good-for-you Addictive Game!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sara O. | Admin Aide, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

I love that you can open up Duolingo at a time when you might just be on social media or fiddling with your phone and do something positive instead!

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

Although I've been using Duolingo and my vocabulary has increased, I don't feel like my accent is getting better. There is a limit to how far an app can go in that sense, although they do have live tutor help that I have not utilized. For an app, it's absolutely useful and and helpful!

**Recommendations to others considering Duolingo:**

Download it already! It's free, it's FUN, it makes learning a new language easy. I highly recommend for all ages. This could even be a fun activity for parents to do with their kids. It challenges you while making it a game.

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am learning a lot of Spanish vocabularly, which has made reading signs and communicating with Spanish speakers much easier. As someone who converses regularly with people who speak Spanish or Spanglish, and visits Mexico, this has been so helpful!! I feel much more confident making my way in the world. I also really enjoy being able to "play on my phone" while I'm learning. Although I use this app on my personal time, it has also been helpful for my professional life. I am responsible for contracting for translation of public agendas into Spanish and including appropriate Spanish verbage on our website. Although I still rely on a translator for professional documents, this app has made me more confident to read over their work.

 ### 37. Fun way to learn!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tiffany H. | Classroom Teacher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 08, 2022

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

I love the achievements that can be unlocked. As someone who is competitive, it makes learning a new language feel like a game rather than an assignment. I also enjoy the little characters. They add good humor.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

I dislike that it is so hard to get more hearts and gems. I wish you could earn them faster and easier without paying money, but I understand why they do that.

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have gotten much more comfortable with the language that I am learning. I don't think I'm fluent yet but I'm able to read most things with medium understanding.

 ### 38. One of the best language learning Application

**Reviewed by:** Nandula Sai Ujjwal k. | Aerospace Engineeer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 06, 2021

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

Duolingo for me happens to be the best application for learning languages. It has a very interactive platform with an amazing user interface. It also happens to have a huge trove of languages to learn from. Its rewards base happens to be a big motivation factor for its users. It also supports dying languages like Hawaiian, Navajo by giving extra perks to its users while learning. Apart from the basic lessons, Duolingo offers story exercises to get a better understanding of the language. There is also the Duolingo forums where users can interact with each other on the lessons and increase their knowledge.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

Nothing much to dislike about this application. It is growing with multiple features and its user experience.

**Recommendations to others considering Duolingo:**

I would highly recommend people of all age groups to start using Duolingo to learn a new language. It gives you a really good motivating experience while learning new stuff.

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have been using Duolingo for more than two years now for learning german and I have had an amazing experience. The daily streak system helped stay and complete lessons everyday, The spoken lessons helped correct my pronunciation of the language. The lessons focusing on grammar are too good. And the story lessons helped me understand how a general conversation would go with more vocabulary. In a nutshell, it has been an amazing experience for me learning from Duolingo.

 ### 39. Easy to use, best for learning languages

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

Duolingo is undoubtedly the best learning app; with it, you can learn more than 50 languages, including Portuguese, English, Italian, and other native languages. It is very didactic, simple, fun. I have learned a lot with the methodology of teaching Duolingo because I can improve listening, writing, and speaking.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

I have nothing to complain about Duolingo, in the last few years using Duolingo I have improved my English a lot

**Recommendations to others considering Duolingo:**

Let's use Duolingo because it's the best app to practice totally for free; if you don't have it, Duolingo plus doesn't interfere with anything in the studies. You can study in the standard version

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Very good for learning languages, this app has helped me a lot to communicate with many native English-speaking customers, it has also contributed to my professional growth

 ### 40. Love Duolingo!

**Reviewed by:** Shonna H. | Program Coordinator at Public & School Partnership, AmeriCorps VISTA, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

Step-by-step language learning. Different options to learning a language. XP for completing lessons. Simple, pleasing interface.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

Sometimes lessons are really repetitive, which I understand is great for language learning but can be monotonous for app-based learning.

Personal and professional gains through language learning. Pursued professional positions due to language skills gained.

It make the first step easy to learn without feeling bored

 ### 42. The first language app that is fun to use and accessible to all!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ludivine K. | Content Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2021

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

The gamification system is definitely a plus to remain motivated (and the best I've come across so far)!
The stories help you learn idiomatic expressions and words.
Even if the learning system is not perfect, you get to memorize words and phrases in a fun way. I will admit it is easier to learn Indo-European languages than Asian languages.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

Sometimes the sound of dialogues in the Story section doesn't play on my mobile apps.
The web experience is not as fun as the mobile one. I can understand why. But sometimes, it's just easier to use the web version to write long sentences, for example.

**Recommendations to others considering Duolingo:**

If you would like to avoid advertising and fully benefit from the fun experience, I would recommend using Duolingo Plus. This way, you can also assess your progress and know how to get better over time.

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can flexibly learn several different languages and better understand locals when I travel. I can also use my newly acquired language skills at work.

 ### 43. Best multiple language learning app - Duolingo

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 22, 2022

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

The most helpful thing about the Duolingo application is that we can learn all the global language with ease starting from the scratch to an indepth level and understand the topics.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

There are no big downsides about the Duolingo application but in the speech recognition sometimes due to the noise it asks us repeat multiple times and it take a huge time once again.

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With the help of the Duolingo application we can able to get connected with people from anywhere and we can start to have a good rapport by speaking their native language.

 ### 44. Good for Basic Vocab Attainment

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Human Resources | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 16, 2021

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

I was surprised that the app had a lot of features for having conversations and conversation comprehension. Starting at Unit 2 I started to notice this more. I also think that the podcasts and storylines are a great feature to assist with comprehension.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

I wish that it allowed me to contact the other people that I can see learning on the app to have conversations with them. I wish that it told more of the grammar rules as well.

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Duolingo has helped me to be able to reach basic level of understanding of Spanish and to do it at my own time and leisure.

 ### 45. Great app to start learning languages

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Duolingo?**

I like how Duolingo makes language learning simple and intuitive by reducing the amount of grammar that you have to deal with and gradually teaches you more and more about ho the language works as you level up skills. This makes learning both engaging and to some level game-like, ultimately turning the experience into something fun instead of dull and boring. It doesn't even feel like work!
But my favorite thing by far is the fairly recent feature: Duolingo For Schools. It has made my job as an ESL Teacher easier since it allows me to track the students progress and therefore their overall interest in the language. It even helps the students refresh what they learn in class.

**What do you dislike about Duolingo?**

I don't dislike anything in particular. One thing to pay attention to, however, is that although Duolingo is a great app to start learning the language, it's not a replacement for formal language learning as it falls short when it comes to conversational practice and immersion.

**What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Duolingo mainly helps me stay engaged with the languages that I'm interested in and develop love for new ones I might come across. Lastly, it allows me to keep track of the progress of my friends, making learning competitive. I can also track the progress of my students and during class inquire about what they've been learning as a way of practice. Duolingo just keeps getting better overtime.
