# SAS Enterprise Guide is not just a point-and-click interface for the SAS System... There is a widely held misconception about SAS Enterprise Guide that it is not just a point-and-click interface for the SAS System. It is so much more than that. It is true that it developed from SAS/ASSIST, which was a point-and-click interface, but it included exactly the same code editor as interactive SAS for Windows until version 4.3. From that version the code editor in interactive SAS for Windows was frozen, while the code editor in SAS Enterprise Guide has been upgraded with every new release. Having used the code editor features since version 1.1.1 in 2001, I rarely use the point-and-click functionality, unless I need to remind myself of specific SAS syntax by looking at the SAS code generated by the SAS Enterprise Guide tasks. ##### Post Metadata - Net upvotes: 1

# SAS Studio or SAS Enterprise Guide: which do you prefer? I’ve used SAS Enterprise Guide since version 1.1.1 in 2001 and SAS Studio since version 3.1 in 2013, and I’ve written 2 x 50-minute conference papers comparing them too (both downloadable from my blog site at https://hollandnumerics.org.uk/wordpress/product-category/woo-papers/: * “SAS Enterprise Guide or SAS Studio: Which is Best for You?” was first presented at SASGF 2015 in Dallas, TX * “How Many Shades of Guide: SAS Enterprise Guide to 8.1 and SAS Studio to 3.8 with SAS 9.4” was submitted to SASGF 2020 in Washington, DC, but, of course, has yet to be presented. My preference when working with SAS on my own system is to use SAS Enterprise Guide, but I think that is probably down to familiarity, although I do tend to prefer SAS Studio tasks there, if there is a choice. However, on my client’s system I always use SAS Studio, as SAS Enterprise Guide has not been installed, and particularly for graphics it is really easy to develop visualizations quickly. Is your choice between SAS Enterprise Guide and SAS Studio forced by availability, or are you free to make your own selection, and, if so, which do you prefer?
