# Which online newsroom platforms protect journalist privacy and stay GDPR-compliant for media contact data?

Hi, EU-side comms folks on G2, and anyone who reviews PR tools with a DPO looking over their shoulder. Which online newsroom platforms actually protect journalist privacy and stay GDPR-compliant for the media contact data they hold, rather than just having "GDPR" on the pricing page?

A media list is personal data. Every journalist email, phone number, beat note and open-tracking record in the CRM is something you are processing under GDPR, and a journalist has the same right to ask what you hold and why as any customer does. That reframes the question. It isn't whether the vendor signs a DPA. It's where the data sits, how consent got there, and whether a data-subject request can be handled inside the tool or turns into a week of exporting spreadsheets.

Reading the Online Newsroom Software category on G2 with that in mind, the European newsroom-first tools separate from the US wire-first ones fast. Wiztrust bets on regulated-sector hosting. Prezly bets on consent mechanics. PR.co bets on a CRM that stays inside the newsroom. Same regulation, three answers.

Wiztrust (4.6/5, 65+ reviews): Built for communications teams at listed companies and financial institutions, with data hosted in France and Europe on Google Cloud, SSO and granular user permissions. Reviewers score Contact Management 0.88, joint highest in the category's feature data. Trade-off: it's designed for large regulated organisations, so onboarding is configured to your structure and takes time.

Prezly (4.3/5, 70+ reviews): A Belgian platform where newsroom subscribers confirm by double opt-in, a data request form sits on the newsroom itself, and a permission-check campaign lets you re-confirm consent from existing contacts. Trade-off: no built-in media database, so every contact is one you imported and are responsible for.

PR.co (4.6/5, 40+ reviews): An Amsterdam PR CMS with the contact CRM, email and newsroom in one tool, so media data doesn't get copied out to a separate mailing product. Contact Management also scores 0.88. Trade-off: a small company, so vendor due diligence rests on a short security page rather than a compliance team.

Mynewsdesk (4.3/5, 95+ reviews): Stockholm-based with its own global journalist database. Trade-off: that database is exactly the point to check. A vendor-sourced list means you are processing contact data you didn't collect, and the DPA has to cover how it was gathered.

The US wire tools, Notified GlobeNewswire and ACCESS Newswire, aren't excluded here, but their posture is different: the media database is the product, and data residency has to be asked for rather than assumed.

For anyone who has put one of these through a DPO review, what was the single finding that made you rule a platform out, and was it hosting, consent, or the vendor's own database?

I’d add deletion and access-request workflows to the evaluation because compliance gets tested when a journalist actually exercises their rights. Knowing where the data originated and everywhere it has propagated becomes critical then. Has anyone handled a real journalist data request through one of these platforms, and how straightforward was it?
