From what the G2 reviews in Mobile Advertising show, the real decision here isn't which mediation layer is easiest to set up; it's which one you're willing to be locked into, since AdMob mediating its own inventory and AppLovin running mediation through MAX both have an obvious incentive to favor their own demand in the waterfall. A neutral mediation layer avoids that conflict of interest but adds a vendor and an integration step of its own, which is the trade-off worth naming before setup ease. Policy enforcement is the other thing reviewers flag consistently with the network-owned option, since strict compliance requirements can mean losing access unexpectedly if an account trips a rule, which is a bigger risk than any setup friction. For a publisher running multiple networks, the mediation choice that's easiest to get live today may not be the one that's easiest to keep live once policy or fill-rate issues start showing up.
