&lt;p&gt;I’d drop any setup where permissions became another system administrators had to constantly maintain manually. For a large multidisciplinary project, role changes and new collaborators happen too often for that to scale. I’d want reusable role-based permissions with clear boundaries between disciplines, plus an audit trail showing exactly who gained or changed access.&lt;/p&gt;

For most large project teams, the deciding factor is less the number of permission settings and more the administrative effort required to maintain them as roles, firms, and project phases change.&lt;/p&gt;
