&lt;p&gt;The threshold question is really about whether the viewer loads the whole assembly or only what&#39;s on screen. A catalog of ten thousand models is fine if each page pulls one lightweight mesh; the lag shows up on the single 3,000-part machine where the viewer tries to render every fastener at once. So a system can be &quot;fast with thousands of models&quot; and still choke on your one biggest product, so worth testing with your heaviest assembly, not your typical one.&lt;/p&gt;
