# What is the easiest CAD viewer for just opening DWG files without needing a full AutoCAD license?

<p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true">Something I keep seeing asked: what's the easiest way to open DWG files when an AutoCAD seat costs way more than the actual viewing work justifies? The tricky part is that "easiest" and "cheapest" don't always point at the same tool, so I pulled the review themes to compare.</p><ul>

For pure read and print, a free viewer is usually plenty; the large-file slowdown is the thing that eventually pushes people to a heavier tool. The honest deciding question is whether &quot;view&quot; ever quietly turns into &quot;make a quick edit,&quot; because that&#39;s the line where free stops being enough.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
