&lt;p&gt;PRTG&#39;s pre-built sensors mean it keeps collecting and alerting even if setup isn&#39;t completed; alerts still work, you just haven&#39;t customized them yet. Zabbix without custom tuning generates noise, you get alerts but half are false positives. Pandora FMS lacks the pre-built templates so it needs more manual configuration.&lt;/p&gt;

Pandora FMS kind of gets slept on in these comparisons. It&#39;s not as polished as PRTG and not as flexible as Zabbix, but if you want something free that doesn&#39;t take forever to stand up, it&#39;s a reasonable middle ground. That said if your team has zero Linux admin experience, the setup can still bite you. PRTG is probably the lowest friction option if budget isn&#39;t a hard constraint.
